I was so sad to hear that the Pick Of Destiny movie didn't do well. I live in Hong Kong, so it didn't come out in the cinema here. But I bought the DVD as soon as I possibly could, and I watch it every chance I get. It's easily the best thing you guys have put out. You should be proud of it, even if it didn't kill at the box office. It's a film that will last the test of time.
My favorite part of POD is when Kyle gives Jack his DC guitar, the inlays on that guitar are just epic. Just insane. Magical. Gibson needs to do a signature model.....
I was 8 when pick of destiny came out didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters with me being a kid and all however I did see a bootleg of it that my friend had the next year and it changed my life thank you KG and JB. Long live THE D!!!!
WHY DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS UNTIL TODAY?!?!?!?!?!?!? I am so happy I'm moved to tears. THANK YOU, KYLE! This is my favorite Tenacious D song and now I can learn it directly from you! Color me STOKED.
Honestly dude.. KG is in my top 5. Literally next to Randy Rhodes for me. Dude is a fucking legend in his own right and god bless him and the riffs he has gifted upon the whole of humanity 🤘🏼
"where we you opening weekend?" kyle we love the movie, but new line's promo dept should be sacked for the lack of advertising they gave your film. my feinds and i didnt know about the D movie till it was on dvd. and we are massive fans
I love that you guys are showing us how to play your awesome songs at a time when other "artists" are crying copyright when somone shows how to play one of their riffs. Rock on dudes, and thank you.
I saw Pick of Destiny. In the theater. On opening day. On acid (for the first time). It changed my life. Never underestimate the power of your rocket sauce.
@@483lh4 Probably the same thing, but stranger, really depends on the dose. I've watched some pretty weird things when tripping and had them look relatively the same, but the rest of the room get very, very strange, or just melting into the background. Watching movies or TV when tripping is usually bad idea though, on a bigger dose you will literally not be able to understand what is happening (I tried to watch Baby Driver with my girlfriend her first time on mushrooms, I still don't know what happens in it, she had already seen it and couldn't explain it to me, the soundtrack is pretty sweet though). Going to a cinema sounds like a recipe for disaster though, dark, surrounded by strangers, extremely loud audio and intense visuals.
I was too young and they didn't even show it in my town! I waited and waited and waited! Never did it come!!!! I woulda would my soul to see in theatre! Tenacious d has always been my inspiration to make music! Jables and kage FTW!
Cant thank you enough for these lessons! I guess im still a relative 'beginner' and find these a little tricky but Im really enjoying learning some of my favourite songs/licks from the artists themselves so I know its correct. Cant wait for the new album!
*sobs* it's true! My rocker room mate introduced me to the D...! It was an intense crash course into dvds of the TV series, concerts, and the movie. Because of that experience I'm now a fan and I learned to play the guitar.
I live somewhere we can't go to opening weekends of movies, but we sure saw Pick of Destiny later, it is among the handful of films me and friends keep stored as eternal classics
I don't know about you guys..but everytime I hear those first chords (the ones KG plays in the beginning, just before the lyrics start) I get major goosebumps. It's one of my biggest dreams to be able to play those one day. I'm absolutely unable to play the guitar, but I WILL learn this and one day, I'm gonna play this on the campground of a festival where TenD play (I've already seen them twice) and just enjoy the moment Just had to share this with you guys, since you freaks will probably understand this strange wish of mine.
I think its really cool having two great guitarists points of view when it comes to playong different chord varitions, especially as a guitarist learning theory. Really enjoy the videos!
I saw The Pick of Destiny 5 times in theater's, including the first day it was out! loved it then and still do! I even got a sick pick of destiny tattoo on my leg
Kyle reminds me of my buddy Kelly that passed away...that’s weird to say, but ...I always think it when I see him ...and he looks like he’d be a cool friend...rock on Kyle...love this song...and that movie is all time!
Where was I that weekend? I was at the movie. I was also at the first two shows from that tour at the Gibson amphitheater. As a matter of fact I have been a faithful D-sciple since 2000 and seen you guys 7 times live and will continue to go to shows whenever I can. And now with the KGB starting to get themselves out there I have a new great group to follow.
I’m honestly a big fan I’m getting tenacious d on dvd since they moved it off Netflix a while back but honestly I love your guys music especially beelzeboss
Kyle please make another movie! I swear I will see it on opening night. hell I'll see it twice. I was too young and stupid to go see POD on opening night, but it's one of my favorite movies now!
When I first got this album the day it came out -- ok, maybe a few weeks before via the internet but hey, I bought it later! -- I remember sitting in my room and got comfortable in my well cushioned office chair to listen to it. The Dminor riff opened things up and I thought "this is sounding good already..." and then Jack Black comes in with the first lines of the album: "A long A** F**ing" and I just lost it. Fell out of my chair laughing. Had to restart. Long live The D!
Tenacious D has such good songs. Kyle is always writing these flurries of chords that just work so well and, of course, Jack is there with the voice from Lucipher himself.
I was there opening weekend. I was the guy in the audience who yelled out, "I knew I should have brought my weed!" When 'THC, the audience is baking' popped up
Oh yeah, that low F Kyle uses is nice and warm, as opposed to borrowing the high F that has a couple hints of tin. Man, KG really is a great guitarist. Theory and Talent, just like JB noticed in the Pick of Destiny lol Really agree with @UAvanfan. They need a sequel! Even a Decade later, they’d be rocking! Nothing can defeat The Metal!!
learned this song with marty long time ago, but didn't know that you're using the full c chord there, tried it, sounds a little bit better, so still learning :) good job guys, can't wait to learn the "rise of the phoenix" pieces :D
Big fan, The D is part of the reason I love playing the acoustic. Only request is that you mute the chords and let us hear the rhythm more clearly. It's sometimes hard to pick out the rhythm without the chords muted - THANKS
Pick of destiny got pulled from my local cinema before I could see it. I went to a movie marathon to see it, had to watch 3 other movies lol. But worth it
Patrick McCutcheon he's s crazy good riff writer, and you should hear his solo in the song 'rock is dead', I think he's a criminally underated guitarist
dude i literally got the dvd of pic of destiny before it even came out in stores cause my uncle worked as a truck driver for stores and such and he stole the dvd for me lol.
I like that the more technically-minded host points out some of the quirks of KG’s playing/chord style. It’s a sign of a good musician to me when you can tell they’re a bit self taught, and have just spent a lifetime practicing and playing around with their instrument. Not as concerned about doing things the “right” way. That’s when those technical quirks and habits come up, like the odd way Kyle holds certain chords. I’m not a musician though, so please correct me if I’m speaking out my ass.
