    I very much like your straightforward, no b.s., approach.

    I'm new to this channel, this guy is likeable due to his way of talking and his undeniable knowledge. Also he doesn't film a movie to explain things, he gets quickly to the point. The side laterals on the incline bench are murderers, don't you dare lift heavy on these, you are going to snap your shoulders.

    Hi Ryan. I’m a recent sub from England and really like your approach to videos, no messing around and just focussing on specific muscle groups and I really like the idea of maximising time under tension. I’m going to be 45 this year and would appreciate a video on training as an older guy. I know there’s loads out there, but it’s such conflicting information, it would be great to have a straight answer. Many thanks and cheers for the fabulous channel!

    With regards to the seated press - and only in my humble opinion . . . A standing press offers a few benefits over seated presses:
    1. Both versions work the core very well, but if legs are kept out of the equation with a disciplined stance I think standing has the edge on core work;
    2. Standing allows for a ‘leg spring’ assist on the last set; and,
    3. Standing allows for a quick egress and weight drop if absolutely necessary.
    Thanks for the other variations! Take care.

    Hi Ryan love to see some your take on stuff around older aged lifters issues eg joints lower back crap / working with injured body parts etc

    • @vatican6666
      @vatican6666 4 года назад

      Lee, you are looking in the wrong place for what you request. Two recommendations for any lifter but especially older, injured ones.
      First, get your body working correctly, i.e., hip, shoulder, ankle, etc mobility. Check out SmashweRx. Granted he is a bit hard to take at first but you WILL learn why you have limited movement, why you hurt and how to correct it. I spend 20-30 min before or after every workout to fix my issues.
      Second, if you want to know which movements should be avoided, what ones are better for you, what changing angles and speed can do or what a variety of exercises for the same muscle does, then watch Athlean-X for the best damn education you can get on training. No, his videos are not 3-4 min long but that is why he can explain everything in detail.
      Do I watch Ryan vids? Yes I do because I keep an open mind and have learned and adopted a few of his ideas. He is good for those that can't be bothered to put in the time that is needed to learn the details needed to stay healthy. They won't be in the game for long. Ryan also offers some advice that is not so good, although I give him credit that he always prefaces it with, 'If you don't already have a problem it is probably OK' or 'I don't have trouble with such and such movement myself'. Ryan is pretty sketchy on details for beginners that don't do further reading. This is obvious by the number of requests for Ryan to 'explain' this or that.
      So, first take note of what hurts you and watch SmashweRx to start fixing the issues. And remember, there are dozens of videos on each problem. You don't have to do all one vid, Simply pick a few fixes you like from different vids using equipment you have, combine them to your liking and get your body working right. Then start watching Athlean-X to learn even more about joints, tendons, ligaments, etc and try alternatives to movements that hurt. Learn new variations to keep you going and try some athletic routines now and then.
      OK, so by now I know all the fan boys are gritting their teeth and mother-f#ckering me up and down like what the f#ck does he know. Well let me tell you. I am 66, 5'10, 223 lbs with abs showing. Not ripped as Ryan (I like my bar nights) but I will match my calves against his. I have been in gyms (not health clubs) for 40+ years. Do I understand when you say pain and injuries? I have survived 5 motorcycle crashes and too many fights and brawls to remember. I've worked miserable, hard jobs that took their toll on my body. All in all, every joint in my body has been injured numerous times. I have lost count of broken ribs and bones. Am I determined? Last crash busted my shoulder, two ribs and my hand. I still worked out three times a week doing legs on machines.Did it hurt? Yes, it was a bitch. All the youngsters looked at me like I was crazy. I heard them refer to me as the Animal and it made me grin, but I never stopped working out. I worked around. And that is the key. I never juiced in all those years and that is a good thing as I have fought bladder cancer and secondary polycythemia these past 12 months and after recovery I am STILL lifting hard and I am almost back to pre-operation/treatment condition.
      I've seen the wanna-bees come and go as well as all the 'fads' that start and then burn out. What I can tell you is don't stop watching Ryan as his direct approach, the fact that he teaches 'do what feels best to YOU', his variety of angles and his 'widow maker' attitude is outstanding. That's what I love about Ryan. Watch him, pick what you like than watch Athlean-X to see details of how and why it works . Jeff was a turn-off at first until I realized he knows what he is talking about. Over a thousand videos covering everything you could want to know. Between Ryan, Athlean-X and SmashweRx you have access to a vast amount of information that was never available to us old gym rats and all of it by guys that actually know what they are at the top of the heap. Free information that will grow you faster, safer and healthier than all the bro science being spewed. Then, if you want to get into power lifting or bodybuilding, then go and find guys that specialize to help with that (Thrall and Nippard for instance). Lift hard, lift smart, live long (maybe).

    Ryan, I truly appreciate everything you're doing! I believe I've watched all of your videos, and was wondering have you done a dedicated Rotator Cuff vid? If not could you?
    I am 42, and was hurt in the military, but still have a solid foundation in fitness/ lifting. My problem is that after years of surgeries and therapy, I'm finally getting my strength back, but have noticed tremendous differences in how my body responds now vs 10 years ago. My strength is getting to a point where I'm lifting heavier, and I've started noticing some irritation in support musculature(like those of the rotator cuff). I don't want to plateau my growth, but have seriously cut down on further increase in weight/rep combinations out of fear of injury to an aging body. To put that in perspective, I am using your suggested lifts for much of my workouts, including "hammer-style shoulder presses" with elbows tucked instead of flared and religiously avoid "ego" weight amounts (I am strong enough to overhead press 70lb dumbbells, but stick to 30lbs or lighter). Anyway, sorry for the life story, and thanks again for your help to all of us!

    I might try that seated OHP. I was thinking about going to the z-press due to injuries, but sitting on a bench seems a little more practical. Standing OHP is a the longest kinetic chain you can put together, so if you have injuries or weak spots, you're gonna have issues with it and probably won't give your shoulders the workout they deserve.

      I tore my rotator cuff and bicep tendon years back during wrestling and was given similar exercises and have had zero issues since. I use 7.5-10lb dumbells held straight out to side and make very smal circles...50 forward 50 backwards after every workout. Feels like it really reaches the core of my shoulder.

    Side sleeper, and NO issue with shoulder mobility.
    To increase shoulder mobility, and a warmup before doing these exercises, grab a bar, or something long, with both hands (wide grip), raise bar over your head and then behind until bar is at your back, WITHOUT releasing your hand grip.
    Over time, decrease grip distance.
    Also, you can raise one hand up and behind, while the other hand stays stationary out to that side, then alternate.

    Can you put the sets and reps on every video for each body part ? Also can you put the range of recommended weight for each exercise?

    I have been working out at home for a month. I was at a nice hotel and used their weight room. I felt like I had a very good chest workout. Next day I wasn’t sore. Does that mean it wasn’t a good workout?
