    I love this idea. I am hoping to teach Greek and Hebrew in the Church one day and a resource like this would be sooooo helpful!!!

      Oooh. We're also looking to offer something to help people teach Greek in church too. Stay tuned!

      @@bmaGreat work! It can be done! BMA equipped me as well on this. BMA focuses on grammar, my work is on language acquisition through comprehensible input.

    Stories, stories, stories is what we need. Suitable for beginners and beyond. Illustrated if possible. Animated ideally. Original stories or paraphrases of existing.

    I love this idea! And the benefits would be great. Learning a language takes time, might as well start early so by the time they are adults they have a solid foundation already.

    I home school my kids and I'm wavering between greek and latin - need to decide this year. I know Greek, but I'd have to learn latin with them. I was going to ask you about teaching kids Greek so it's great you're talking about it!

    This is an outstanding idea! I wished that I had learned Greek earlier. Perhaps I may have taught it to my children.
    I agree concerning your points on the academic benefits and the development of a strong apologetic defense. Kids learn Latin and Spanish in school, so why not Greek? I look forward to introducing Greek to my future grandchildren.

    One of the things I noticed about trying to take Biblical Greek education from an adult level to a child level, is, as it turns out, when you add all of the pictures and other types of things that help a child learn and keep them interested, you end up with content that is more fun and engaging for an adult as well. So in the end I personally decided not to try and split it up between adult and child content. Aside from breaking down the content into smaller individual parts, what else makes content better for kids but not necessarily better for adults?

      I'm sure adults will benefit from this too, we've had moms say that they're looking forward to learning through two mediums. Not all adults like to be addressed the same way as children though, and personally, I'm not a big singer, so I'm happy not to sing my way through nouns and verbs. :)

    I would want to be involved with my Kiddo. Not “just” a curriculum.
    Depending on the age, a flashcard app may not be helpful. Maybe a physical flashcard pack to purchase for them.

    I appreciate your ministry and all that you do, my friend. Question: What age range would this be catered to? Obviously, you can learn Greek no matter how old you are. But I am wondering how young would be too young to begin and continue this course at a slow/normal pace? For context, I have a 4, 3, and 1-year-old who have not started homeschooling just yet, but the 4-year-old will probably begin this coming Fall.

      We've tested this and found that 8-12 is the ideal range for this work. We've had some success with sharp 7 year olds too.

    Do these kids know how to read yet? Do they need large print?
    Someone I know at church wants to learn Greek (maybe Hebrew too). His first language is Spanish and I don't know how much English he knows. Besides the NT in Greek and Spanish (both of which I have), what books etc. do you suggest?

    • @bma
      @bma  5 месяцев назад +2

      They'll need a Greek Grammar as well. I'm not very sure about Spanish Grammars for Greek, sorry. However, we are hoping to have Beginning Greek in Small Steps (the grammar I'm writing) translated into Spanish.

      @@bma You can learn a lot with just a Greek NT and one in your language. I got as far as figuring out -θησεται without seeing a grammar. When you need to decline σιναπι, which occurs only in the genitive singular, or use an arbitrary verb in the perfect passive imperative, of which the only one I know of is πεφιμωσο, then you need a grammar.
      At the end of the youth worship this afternoon, some other man talked about vital signs and used the words "bradycardia" and "tachycardia". I wrote them in Greek for the man who wants to learn Greek and explained what ταχυ, βραδυ, και καρδια mean.

    What do you think about a comprehensive input approach to learning Greek, as opposed to the grammatical method? Any recommendations on graded readers?

    • @bma
      @bma  4 месяца назад

      I can put together a review of some graded readers. However, I don't really tend to recommend them. Using comprehensive input is a great way to learn a language, but not necessarily as effective at learning to read a language, or master a particular set of literature. Historically the grammatical approach has been used for mastering literature for (literally) thousands of years because it gets you into the text faster.

      @@bma You fundamentally will never be able to read the Greek NT with proper understanding by only studying grammar and vocabulary. Language is speaking, listening and reading. These things exist together and complement each other. Each isolated is incomplete. The idea of "I only need to be able to read" is silly and only works in the world of Bible colleges and seminaries.

    FYI most of the Bible is in Hebrew and the NT was written by 1st Century Jews (except for maybe Luke). Also there is lots of clues in the New Testament that supports that a form Hebrew was spoken by Jesus and the Disciples, example Hebrew word play, also in John 20:21 Jesus says, "Peace to You" or 'Shalom Alechem' which is still a Common Hebrew Greeting today in Jewish/Israeli Hebrew speaking circles. Also it is just a Common Greating, like today people say "What's Up?" "What's Happening" or "Sup." And the person usually doesn't want to know literally what is happening. Seeing Jesus saying 'Peace to You' makes him sound like he is speaking very pious Old English. Ex 'Peace to You, my brethren. How be-ist thou?'
    It's just sad how the Church likes to divorce Yeshua/Jesus of his Jewish culture.

      Isaiah 28:11 KJV
      For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
      The Hebrew OT prophesied that God would speak to Israel in another tongue. In the New Testament, salvation is open to Gentiles and we are not supposed to be tied to Hebrew culture or law. The Apostles were Jews yes, and wrote by inspiration in Greek. Not Hebrew.
      Colossians 2:14-17 KJV
      Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [15] And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. [16] Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: [17] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
