Just a little comment on the editor's intervention: isolation in the desert for meditating and acquiring" H Isychia" (the stillness) , the aim of which is NOT exactly "to connect with nature", as the editor said, but with the Creator of nature and all other creatures. Nature and meditation ate just means to acquire the prayer of the heart. Even prayer itself is just a means, not the goal. Union with Jesus Himself is our ultimate goal, for only through this union one can find the kingdom of God, the hidden treasure of the heart!

@@KungFu_Medicine Perhaps that is grasping at straws to make such a distinction. Many people connect with God by connecting with His creation. I think the documentary makes it fairly clear that the two saints went to the desert to encounter God. Connections with nature can be a great part of that.

This is what we lack in our 21st century existence; we need Jesus Christ at the centre of our being and at the centre of our entire life, just as the desert Fathers & Mothers had. Spoken as one whose parents left the V2 Church in 1972, I wandered through hedonism, feminism, careerism, the pagan New Age, a Hindu meditation cult before meeting Christ at my brother’s ICU bedside. Then I wandered through many Protestant groups before returning to the church of my birth. I was devoutly Trad RC from 2006 until Pope Francis came out on the balcony in 2013. I started researching Church history and became Eastern Orthodox in October 2014. I have discovered hesychasm and ongoing continual repentance… Theosis is our birthright through the Sacraments and prayer. The Jesus Prayer has become my path.

This just reminds me that everything in our world - the noise, the constant busyness, the media, entertainment, even work, the unending availability of food - it's all taking us away from God, from who God means us to be. We all need desperately to make a spiritual journey into the desert to be with God.

Mother Mary please help me be like you to please your Son . I fall today but this instruction had me eating my teats like bread. I was practicing such and fell away and Gods grace recently brought me back to the biblical practices just 10 days ago fasting praying offering up talking to mother mary even recieved today the scent of pungent cinnamon and this evening used. I am an addict 64 and so desire which i believe is A desire from God to be sober. This program has given me much much more desire to live sober 1 day at a time. Thank you so much for this powerful hope i believe comes from my lord my savior his mother and st joseph asking and praying my rosary for holy souls their help , all the angels saints. Thanks for such a well presented and inspiring documentary. I’ve heard a bit about St Anthony but wasn’t aware of St Paul. It is mysterious how one can just walk out into the desert and survive. Such a feat alone is impressive, and to do it for God is true devotion.

When Christ approached Peter for the first time at the fishing boat Peter immediately knew this Man was God.
What does this tell us?
It tells us the Holly Spirit overwhelmed Peter bit also that this Nazarene was awesome yet humble in appearance….
They must have missed the part where we are to make disciples of nations.

Yes the Hermits was catholic, but not in the understanding of Roman catholic,
