I served in the Air Force just after Nam.
Had a full Bird Col that wore an Annapolis ring.
I asked if he served in the Navy 1st.
" kind of, during my last year in the Academy we were told that the new branch ( meaning A.F. ) needed officers, 50 that year. So I entered the Naval Academy and became an Air Force Officer..."

My friend's father served and she has 11 of his medals. I've been trying to find what each represents and tain't easy! Out of 11, I have found 4. He was in WWII Air Force.

I've found Medals of America to be a generally reliable and accurate reference and material source for over 30 years. I have, however, run into a fairly uncommon problem in ordering proper displays and in on line material accuracy. The first incidence was 25 years back, my brother wanted to build a shadow box to place under my portrait. I sent him a list of my authorized medals and ribbons. He was "informed" by the representative he spoke with that it was not possible to have a Southwest Asia Service medal without a Kuwait Liberation medal. Incorrect. Eligibility for the former extended some time after eligibility for the latter ended. I see uncommon but persistent errors in award of stars on certain ribbons/medals. For example, the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal is indeed awarded WITHOUT a bronze star initially. I don't know about the other services, but the Air Force views each star as a subsequent award. There are campaign awards that don't go by this standard, but it is not the general rule. I have two awards of this medal and properly wear it with one bronze star. At 11.44, the video shows the Meritorious Service medal with two oak leaf clusters and states this indicates it was awarded two times. The ribbon with two clusters actually indicates three awards. In most cases this is a minor point, I have always received great service from Medals of America and expect to receive that great service in the future. Air Force manual 36-2806 lists proper wear guidance. Keep up the great work! One rack you made for me got me through an NCO Academy inspection and THAT is meeting extremely minute criteria!

Was in the Army and earned the meritorious unit award. In the Air Force, would it be worn grouped with all the other ribbons? In the Army, the unit awards are worn on the other side.

It is a slightly different abbreviation for the army of occupation medal which normally would be abbreviated as AOM.

@@veteransmedalsworkshop-moa4376 thank you so much . Does your book include badges and what occupations are authorized to wear them? My grandpa was a 30770 Telecommunications systems control technician and I am trying to figure what badge he would have worn?

Is there a portal we can view our “rack” the way we could while on active duty, as a veteran? Is that located on any of our various online account portals?

Are these WW2 medals you collect replica or copy edition? Are they all made in the'40s and'50s?

Some are WW II and some are recent strikes under our hallmark using dies and hubs furnished by the Institue of Heraldry. All are official and made to the original specification including the ribbon.

I have had several ribbon racks made my MOA, they are excellent. Sadly in my opinion the Air Force has abused and degraded the importance of the Bronze Star. E9's and Field Grade Officers return from the AOR and are awarded the Bronze Star.
