The problem is he feels like a completely different character now, i understand he can change a little bit by each game but he doesn't even seem the least bit like the original ratchet anymore. Still a fan of the games but ratchet has definitely become a lot more generic which is sad because he use to be really unique.
thats why i hated it.
he lost his character and now family friendly as fuck they might as well make ratchet and clank games for children now
As much as I love James Arnold Taylor (New Ratchet) I really preferred the original actor from the first game (Mikey Kelly)
There's a video about Mikey Kelly on my channel, if you're interested.
@@Ayo090 They already have
Have you all heard about the simple life things called "growing up", "maturing"?
For real bro . They were doing something so great with future tools of destruction, quest for booty, and a crack in time but they fell of soooo hard after into the nexus with new design and the all for one and the reboot.
Ratchet went from a savage animal to slightly annoyed.
Just goes to show how much experience he's gained over the years
Yep
@@Splitgamer74 Nope, he became more insecure and suddenly had social anxiety and cares about what others think about him. Ratchet was always full of himself. Also he always had his boundaries instead of being a doormat. He is a young adult not an elder.
There were even times where SpongeBob snapped when people were taking advantage of him or messing with his job. Even SpongeBob has his boundaries and put people in their place. Ratchet was stripped a bit chonk of his personality in Rift Apart.
Miss the old Ratchet
Isn't Ratchet like 35 years old now?
I think he's supposed to be 34
@Dandy Crow A good amount of years have passed though since during certain games Ratchet and Clank will mention a amount of time passing. Here in Rift Apart, Ratchet did mention it has been years since their last adventure in the intro of the game to a point even Dr. Neferious has not been seen in years until this moment.
You know people think too much about it, maybe the age of the species in Ratchet&Clank is way much farther than humans, like we don't at what age Lombaxes dies. Maybe for all we knom, Azimuth was 200years old, Qwark could live for 400 years etc.. etc..
I mean if you wanna get technical shouldn't they have more efficient rockets if he's in the future?
@Dandy Crow the growth of 1-2 is ratchet becoming impulsive... It's why all of 2 even occurs...
Dude ratchets about to be 20 years i remember sitting on my floor playing ratchet and clank on ps2
30s actually
They made him super meek and insecure! From a crack in time and prior even if he doubted himself and his efforts it definitely wasn't in the manner presented in Rift Apart! Not a fan of how they changed his character in Rift Apart from always seeking the adventure to becoming just like Clank, always concerned!
well as a guy whos been on many adventures and is mostly losing interest in it every new game, it makes sense he wouldnt be the old ratchet after not wanting alot of adventure
@@Terra_Volted that's a cop out! Because even in into the nexus which takes place not to long ago in universe, he still itched for adventure and discovery! This game they turned him into Clank!
Every instance he has had with the Dimensionator it has always lead to some kind of trouble and heck when Clank told him that the Orvus Chamber is not meant for Time Travel and he reminded him of the Dimensionator and what it was capable of, he figured there are risks not worth taking. A lot of times Clank's judgement regarding certain things that Ratchet had doubts on winds up being proven right so it's a case of he has learned from experience. The point is, Ratchet definitely wished to not see the Dimensionator again as it has always lead to bad vibes and Nefarious proved his point.
@@DANCERcow So is it a bad thing?
@@d00dy1 no, it's just off putting! After watching snapcube 2 where she brought it up during her let's play is when I noticed it all!
Dr. Nefarious: “Now you’ll know how losing feels like. Spoiler. It’s exhausting.” LoL
I love how the writer decided to make jokes about cliche lines
I liked ratchet more when he could fit the entirety of clank in his mouth
Weirdly suspicious sentence but sure
💀
I've only started playing Ratchet and Clank 1.
I have no idea what this sentence even means.
I will try to make you proud, mom!
😙😊 YOU ALREADY HAVE
Clank: ☺️
Ratchet: What are _you_ *smiling at!* 🤨
I feel like ratchet isnt ratchet in the new games they ruined his character
I prefer new Ratchet’s character. He was a little bit annoying in the first game. He was young and dumb, but now he is grown up Lombax who can control his emotions. That’s a great character development.
I mean, it was character development. Except the 2016 remake, that one isn't canon. Or even if it was, it's just another lombax in another timeline called Ratchet. Or actually screw it, it's a figment of Captain Qwark's half-assed truth
....This isn't character development, it's character assassination.
They fucking neutered him and everyone knows it
@@Gendotherendo
Sure.
Completely ignore that the term "character developement" and "maturing" exists and just call it character assassination🙄
Just what the heck is assassinated in his character?
@@thinkwithvideos2238 I'd love to see your favorite character going from a mighty adventurer to a fragile lil guy. Yeah that's the character development we're looking for
Lombax had no chill in the first lol he seemed more like a lombax in that one lol
My problem with current ratchet is not cause he is not edgy(altho I was fan of it) but he become like goody to shoe character which made him uninteresting
Sure he has insecurities but he has too much of them in RA to the point that it feels forced
Og ratchet was the best ratchet try me
Yes he developed but rn he behaves like clank sometimes which is weird boring and sometimes inconsistent
Just because he developed from being a jerk and now he is a goody to shoes does not mean it is a good character writing(heck I would argue the opposite)
Current ratchet is a mess
Now we are up to this point where ratchet is stuck being like that with no further development whatsoever but just being bland at the same time
Also cause of that you cant do ANYTHING interesting with him(like in ratchet and clank 1 and deadlocked)
This my opinion on ratchet
Briefly current problems with ratchet is that he is boring and uninteresting and not cause he lost the edge since he can show edginess sometimes(just less often)
Big mistake making him like a boy scout in the remake. It rubbed off to rift apart a bit slightly. Into the nexus was so well done in his demeanor. If we remember him being in a LITERAL DEATH GAME, losing clank once, losing his life, losing his one last connection with his race, seeing him die, as well as MANY friends including Cronk and Zephyr. Ratchet has indeed seen shit and for sure copes with it. Cant help it if he might look sad. Rift apart kinda has him look like NONE of that ever happened. And only worries about the lombaxes being what he thought they would be...when EVEN WE don't know anything yet either!
3:18 *"Good Question"*
I miss the old Ratchet. I love some character development so he doesn’t have to stay being as much of an asshole he was in the first game, but I felt his personality by the third was fire. Heroic, blunt, a bit selfish, a bit arrogant, quick to anger, etc etc
Not mentioning the moment when Qwark "dies" and ratchet makes a speech. My fav moment by far ...
Does this Thumbnail really mean, When you have better technology you need to make characters Less Expressive?
@@user-jg78 how? The ray tracing in Rift apart in phenomenal. The face capture is also amazing.
I don’t know they look too exaggerated weird in the PS2 version and I’m an old time fan.
@@user-jg78 It's due to his personality change, not giving him an opportunity to express any other negative emotions as much as he used to in the prior saga, Hell, even in the first game, yet I believe Insomiac probably strayed away from his older personality, to where it isn't too much like himself anymore, and at least we may need to find out why they ended up having to change Ratchet to the way he is now.
I dunno, sometimes i'll say Mikey Kelly's performance was fine on this, sometimes i'll say it's just funny how off it is. Really can't decide.
Edit: I finally got my hand on it, the performance isn't that bad in itself, it's just feels very unatural to say "He is going to pay" outloud when you're mad.
Ratchet in the ORIGINAL went from happy go lucky to John Wick pissed when Qwark fucked him over, then the infobot of Drek attempting to blow up Veldin.... yeah that's the Beagle dying for Ratchet.
Nefarious: now you will know what losing feels like.
Ratchet: hold up let me take you to fookin eudora 🤣🤣
from original believable writing
to bland marvel writing
way to kill a character, adapting every single mainstream scifi hero personality trait
Ratchet on the left of the thumbnail looks like he’s shouting racial slurs at an earrape level lol
Just because Ratchet isn't a jerk that gets angry at every little thing anymore doesn't mean he's lost his edge. Having edge doesn't mean being mean and having anger issues. You can be kind, polite and sweet while still being a badass. If anything I like those characters more because it shows you that you can be kind and have an edge at the same time.
There's also a special word called 'maturing'. If you're the kind of person who thinks being mean and immature is being cool/badass than you need to look inside yourself and do some serious questioning of your beliefs and character.
This is my opinion, and I'm not trying to shove it down other people's throats. You believe what you want to believe, but don't blame me if you wind up hurting someone someday because of it. Opinions, especially when you try to force it on others, can hurt.
Whoever decides to read this, I thank you and hope you have a good day! : )
Tdlr, and your wrong. So fucking wrong
Facts
And let's not forget, he was around 16-17 in the first game, now he is in his 20's
@@alexpuppylover1261 Exactly! Thank you!
Ratchet"hay guys...always remember me for who I am....FLAMING BURNING, MURDEROUS, RAGE"!!!!!!
Original Ratchet in 2002 was so much better and funny like it was more mature. Now he is a very polite character and he is very kind. Sooo boring man they just destroyed the character it feels like it’s just not the same at all.
So you’re mad because he grew up
He was young and dumb in a first game, but now he is grown up Lombax who can control his emotions. Personally I think that character development is a good thing.
@@gold_gear Yes. And he hasn't changed completely. He still gets angry from time to time, and he still wants adventures.
@@mattkugelman4369 Ratchet's only personality in Rift Apart is every generic polite hero that can do nothing wrong. I'm not saying change is a bad thing but, Ratchet shares barely any emotion apart from polite and happy-go-lucky.
@@gold_gear Character Development is good but, once you reach that point for your character where he's changed, you can't really do much with him anymore. Ratchet's character has changed and grown so much that it's now hard to give him a personality that makes sense. If he's too mad and edgy, it contradicts with what he's learned and built upon with Clank in their Adventures. If he's too happy and nice his character sort of makes no sense considering the amount of destroying enemies with weapons and it's boring because it's his only character trait which is identifiable through many other characters like Ratchet in other games or media.
For those of you that whine "Oh, Ratchet has no edge anymore wah wah!" Rift Apart takes place after ItN, so Ratchet has had his character developed. You want a REALLY soft, Spongebob style Ratchet that never even gets angry? Look at the 2016 game. He gets angry more than once in Rift, where he never got angry in 2016. 2016 Ratchet being boring is only angering because it's a retelling of the original game, and they did inaccurately. Rift Apart is off the hook because it's a sequel to ItN, where he already had his character developed.
they ruined his character, cope
@@2xRainb0w I just explained.... Look. I only agree when it comes to 2016. Took too many liberties with retelling R&C 1. But Rift Apart was fine. Maybe 2016 has left such a bad taste that something that resembles the bite he had was amazing. I replayed ToD and ACiT, and I felt Ratchet was similar in Rift (if not lacking a bit of sarcasm) at very worst for Rift Apart, I'd call him passable. In between I would call him good, and I won't say what I'd put him at best, because it's a bit much for you. (and I am a veteran player, I've played all the games, trust me) again I say, Ratchet in Rift Apart is nothing like the furry cardboard in 2016.
@@2xRainb0w Regardless of what I say or think, your opinion is yours. You can dislike him in Rift all you want.
FINALLY. Someone mentioned such thing as maturing. Thank you.
@@bandana. Believe me, I really hate the community giving Ratchet shit for not being a jerk past the first game. It annoys me to my core when people call Ratchet "boring" when he's just more mature. He's also anywhere from 26-35 now, he's not gonna be getting angry just because.
I enjoyed rift apart so much, beat it the other day, it's up there with my most favorites now spiderman web of shadows, spiderman 2018 and part 2 etc
I stopped playing Ratchet and Clank after Deadlocked
Wise decision
the scene with the war ships : 5:36 is lets just say familiar to the 2002's war ships of chairman drek
Should've called Aphelion for air support on the final boss tbh
Ratchet actually use to say something that hurts the others feelings you know bit of backbone but in rifty he just acts like a scared little bitch even Rivet makes him look weak which just sucks because Ratchet actually can hold his own even in conflict without shooting things and then he apologises to quick like you let a tomboy lombax make you look stupid like this when you once told clank that the salt water will rust his mouth shut it’s not about him being angry and whiney but come on stop being so insecure and afraid to stand your grand even be cheeky at times and sarcastic like you use to be god sakes insomniac no one wants a generic goody 2 shoes as a hero because that’s not who Ratchet is he’s a hero but he knows he’s flawed instead of trying to cater to everyone in the galaxy
More like *19* years.
In rift apart my boyfriend and I gets into augment.
You mean yourself?
@@azazel166 if that true then captain quantum could be my crush.
@@azazel166 He didn't say himself.
Sorry what? This is just rift appart for 7 minutes, not a video of ratchet getting angry in all it's games 🤣
Rift Apart is a good game but Ratchet looks bad im sorry. And then Rivet fitting the style made her easy furry bait. And the camera is way too close during combat and you can't see around you well.
I would like it if Ratchet was back to when he looked in ACIT
Classic better
Coming from someone who’s been with the series since I was 4 (2006) I hated Ratchet in the original game. Loved him in all the others, I prefer the more relaxed and rationally angered Lombax he’s become over the years.
I understand he has a character arch in the original game but he’s downright unbearable to me. I grew to enjoy him in the 2016 retelling more as his beginning. Shame on me I know but I like playing with likeable characters, not rude rats
Ratchet lost everything that made him the character we once knew and loved in the reboot. The entire series went down the drain in terms of storytelling and the writing and it shows. I'd rather have a character who's unlikeable at first, but has a character arc that turns him into a likeable, and flawed character than the meek and overly cliché Lombax we see in the reboot.
@@RubenMakaya It's called "maturing", something you elitists never understand. For example, a teenager, who has wild hormones, is obviously gonna be angrier and more sarcastic than an adult. Ratchet isn't a teen anymore, he's anywhere between 26-35 in Rift. He's obviously gonna keep his cool far easier than in the original games. Not to mention, he carries his development from ItN, so that's why he's so different.
@@nu-agegamer3548Maturing is not about losing every bit of personality you have as character development is not about changing the entire personality of a character. Fuck yeah life is tough but it doesn't mean you have to be bland, fragile, with no sense of humour at all, and being hesitent in every fucking move you do. Ratchet is all about killing people, if one day I can't do that anymore in a R&C game, with the pretext that Ratchet has been maturing and is now claiming that "killing dudes is not good" then yeah it'll be a character development but you can be sure that nobody will ever play this game.
@@goudagaxmunster Not the point. The point is that Rift Apart is a sequel to ItN (for the most part). Ratchet's character has already been developed. Regardless, he does have some loose ends in Rift Apart that actually left me satisfied, mostly because 2016 had him so meek and happy all the time and it was strange. Very modern-SpongeBob esque. Him having a new arc about getting over his concerns that the lombaxes will be disappointed in him (or vice versa) makes him feel relatable in Rift. Rivet is also incredibly relatable. But do you know how fans reacted when Marty's character development from BTTF 2 was reversed in favor of the whole "Nobody calls me chicken" arc? People hated it, because it rendered the first film's plot pointless.
Ratchet lengthily progressed from an angry selfish teenager, to a slightly nicer, albeit sarcastic teenager, to a cool-headed, mature adult. If you wanna talk about 2016, that is the exception. In 2016 he's supposed to be a teenager but it makes him super bland when he's his pre-developed happy-chappy self from the later games. In Rift, he's not necessarily happy-chappy. He's a little on edge due to the dimensions beginning to fall apart, plus the concerns about seeing the lombaxes.
@@nu-agegamer3548 Then what's the point ? What I dislike with that ''character development'' is that they made him waaayy too soft. I know, trauma, and all that shit but it doesn't mean that you have to lose your whole personality. How can you go from a mighty adventurer to a depressed dude unable to do a single good joke AND STILL looking like a 12 yo Lombax (why the hell does he not look like his father or Azimuth). I've never seen BTTF 2 but maybe you'll relate to what I'm saying if I talk about FMAB and Ed's development
