  • 🇷🇺 People often ask how I get around Russia, well often I hitchhike from town to town. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes I discover a weird place I'd rather not be in...

Dedicated to the soldiers of the 28th Army, who died in battles during the great Patriotic war. On the territory where the monument is located today, the advance of German troops towards Astrakhan was stopped.
Inside the obelisk on both sides of the through passage are niches in which information plates with the names of military formations that participated in the battle of Hulhut are placed.
On the right side of the obelisk are several mass graves, in which the fallen soldiers of the 28th army are buried, the remains of which are found in our time by search teams. At graves tablets with names of the victims are established.

I thought I was going to run out of gas at one point because there were simply no exits for god knows how long. When I finally came to one, the "town" (and it was suggested as such from signs) was an abandoned diner and a gas station. Thank fuck the latter was still open. Lovely people working there though. There is actually a lot of such villages in Russia, I think like tens of thousands abandoned or nearly abandoned. The reason is people started to move to towns and cities after the collapse of the USSR, especially young ones.
