Great review, very thorough but still concise. Looks like Kelty fixed the few things that were wrong (but very wrong) with the previous version, especially the exposed aluminum suspension bar, which ate into my spine from the very first hike. I've been fighting with it for months, trying to make it work. If I had known this version was coming, I would have waited! The only other issue was that it made for a hot and sweaty back, but the padding on this version looks like it might actually allow some air flow in there. Not sure why even one person would give this review a thumbs down. Maybe their back is still hurting from the last version, or maybe they work for Osprey...
I am torn between this and the Osprey 36 Sirrus. Any recommendations. My first use is for month long trip to Europe touring by train and plane. Then later in the year to Grand Canyon and Moab. Any suggestions are appreciated!!!
You can easily add on hip pockets to this bag if you want them, I recommend the ones from ZimmerBuilt: www.zimmerbuilt.com/store/p25/Hip_Belt_Pocket.html they are lightweight, durable and a good deal.
You can remove the hipbelt, though any new belt will have to be compatible with the pack's attachment points. It's difficult to say whether your new one will fit without more info
Thanks for asking! The dimensions of this pack are 23" x 14" x 12". Carry-on requirements and restrictions vary by airline and flight. We would recommend checking with your specific airline before choosing a carry-on bag. Safe travels!

Great review. It convinced me to buy it. I think the backpack is great, hope I can use it a lot.
How are you liking it?

Removable hip belt is HUGE. It can save your lumbar region from some serious issues
Why no hip pockets?!
It would almost be the perfect pack if it had the hip strap pockets. I have no idea what Kelty was thinking. Why would anyone not want zip pockets???
I actually might pass on this bag just because of the pockets....

Anyone figure out how to take off the hip belt?
Look at their review for Kelty 44, in the comments somebody has given a link to it
Can i remove the hip belt and put in a new one that I buy?

is it a carry on?

Just ordered the one in Black. Cant wait to get it. :)
how do you take off the removable waste band?
Will a sleeping bag fit in this?..a 20 degree less than 4 lbs
It depends on the particular sleeping bag, but most 20 degree sleeping bags would fit inside the Redwing 40.
So this is just a women's version of the 44?
You are correct!
