Great "donjon" :) It's 15th-17th century - The auto-subs didnt capture it but I think he said it's from the Duc de Wallonie (Walloons of France/Belgium). They found that well preserved wooden bridge in the water (10th century?). And because of passage of time in its use, they found various articles and animal bones.
Merci for saving this beautifull little Chayote the ceiling is really in bad shape but it will be done I am sure and cool finds around the Moat. Good luck with the renovation

@@BC-li6zc In that video, the archeologist says that the gouvernment gave some money to the owners of the castle to help them in their renovation
The French govt taxes owners of large properties into poverty. That is why so many who own a castle or chateau are cash poor. The place is crumbling around them and, because of the harsh tax regime, they lack the cash to fix their own building(s). The biggest threat to French heritage buildings is the French Government.
I'll try to summarize (English is my 2nd language). Basically, he explains the dungeon was surroumded by water. They dried it out to renovate the walls. They then realized that underneath the 19th century bridge, remained the wooden structure of a previous bridge, probably dating from the middle age. So, thinking people used to throw their garbage in the water, they began archeological searches in the mud. They found different things, including money from the 15th century, bones... They took small part of the old wooden bridge to study them and date them, and put the old structure back in the mud as it was before, so it would not deteriorate. The water had kept it in a very good state of conservation.
@@maison33253 Thank you so much I figured it was something to do with things in the mud. I really appreciate it. I bet the whole lake is filled with things.
One day old comment on a 4 years old video, nice. So what he was saying in summary is that this is a donjon (defensive and living tower) located in village Crupet in Belgium dated to the end of 13th century (1200s). They did some excavations in the moat and discovered foundations of an older bridge of wood where the stone bridge is now. In the moat they also found artifacts people have thrown off during the course of centuries so not only medieval but also 16th and 17th century objects of their day-to-day life.
@@susanfurner1988 What would my french be for if I didnt help a fellow history fan with knowing what they say. :D Also I forgot to mention that the wooden foundations of the bridge were preserved thanks to the moisture of the dirt around since the moat has been flooded back then so thats why they put the cover above it to conserve it for future generations as he said.
@@moravianmargrave6509 Thanks for the translation - the donjon is beautiful! Not sure if they made mention of it, but it appears the foundation of the older wood bridge was the temporary structure built to support the heavy stone arch during construction. Once the stone arch was complete and self-supporting the wood structure below would be removed.
