YES PLEASE, is there a petition we can sign to make this happen? To make the Nikon F while there are people who still know how to make them or at least pass down the technology.
The willingness to make these cameras and be uncompromising in their engineering and construction represents the best attributes of Nikon. Yup, the price of entry is high but you do get something special in return and the intangibles of these cameras will always appeal to a devoted if limited audience. Those colors from the images look pretty nice as well, they definitely a particular look to them.
What would be much cooler than a re release of the Nikon F would be just a normal new film camera that wouldn't be limited nor ludicrously expensive, just like a fm3a replacement
Amen, AMEN to that thought! Perhaps we need a Kickstarter directed towards Ricoh / Pentax or Kenko / Cosina. They would likely have the engineering skills for such a task.
I have my original black Nikon F from 1969. Still works but I don't use it anymore. It has a prominent spot on my display shelf of old cameras. Nikon ingraved my name on the camera since I got an employee discount from the shop where I was working and they discouraged re-sales.
I like your lens cleaning technique, I usually light candles when I clean mine to see better. Do you prefer the M3 or S3? Love your photos by the way it really makes me miss Japan.
If I might chime in... the M3 in my opinion is a much better camera - nicer finder, parralax correction, focusing is smoother/easier with all lenses. The things I like about the nikon rangefinder system is the weight - cameras are much lighter for people who actually want to take photographs - similarly, the Nikon 50 1.4 is likely my favourite lens. Incredible rendering, much smaller than Leica's 50 1.4 and is literally less than a sixth of the price.
I got a minty Nikon 8008s with a brand new shutter. This was the smaller precursor to the very popular 90s. Back in the day, Nikon and Canon got into a metering segment war. The 8008s fell to this war, but I never got a bad exposure with it, and it was more compact than the 90s. I got the data back, and electronic shutter release . . . but, my Nikon F equivalent is a Pentax ES, the first TTL automatic exposure SLR. You set the aperture, but the camera set the shutter with continuous settings. And the sound of that shutter . . . kchunk.
Are you bugging my house ?? Spooky to see this video drop on the very day my own S3 black limited edition arrived in Scotland. I thought it might be overhyped and was prepared, but no. It is a truly gorgeous machine aesthetically and mechanically. It’s almost too beautiful to sully with a roll of film ... but I will force myself. Loving the videos as ever Bellamy - keep up the good work.
Yes, same suggestion to Nikon, remake the Nikon F, one of the most beautiful SLRs in history. And if they can offer a interchangeable screenless digital back in their buying options, that will be wonderful.
It would be great if they reproduced more film cameras. I just bought an original S3 and I’m finding it very pleasant to use. It’s much lighter than my beloved F with FTn finder.
I agree, I bought my D750 in 2017 and there's just a little gold "shield" on the box, it would have been such a nice touch to have put a 100th anniversary badge on the camera itself, or changed the colour of the FX logo to gold or something like that. Or, as you say, to release another repro model of a film camera.
A very enjoyable video! Those cameras are stunningly beautiful. Also would you consider making personal watch videos as well? Maybe share your story behind it. I can see you’re wearing a Speedmaster and have a Rolex GMT if I’m not mistaken.
Yeah that 35 f1.7 that came with the SP is the lens of my dreams. My favorite focal length, with rangefinder size/weight, and modern coatings. I'd love to have it to run on an S2 and all the new mirrorless bodies, but it's just so damn expensive.
I like how you present your cameras that are mint to near mint condition. IMO that is important if you consider selling it and many cases get quick response because people like buying old , used cameras in mint condition for one of the reasons they want to be sure they function properly after all these years. And just looks good in mint condition. BTW, can you recommend a reliable trustworthy Japanese seller in Japan selling old cameras - slr, rangefinders, nikon, canon, and Leicas? Thanks, would appreciate it. If you know 2 to 3 Japanese sellers of old cameras that have excellent reputation of great customer service. If you sell some cameras, I'd be happy take a look at them ( on your website ) and when Im ready to buy, I'll let you know. Thanks!
god the other day i got to play with a nikon sp in amazing condition it should of been a musueam peice i swear it had such a clear rangefinder and i loved it. shame i could never afford the thing. Although i can afford a yashicamat 124g that was at the same store and i might be buying soon.
Hi Bellamy, now that d Nikon Z fc is out as a digital version of d Fm2 but an apc sensor digcam. My suggestion to Nikon is, make d Nikon F as a fullframe sensor camera exactly base on d Nikon F film slr.
My sentiments exactly, Captasin. I guess I am fortunate, because I bought the S3 2000 edition. I am also hoping nothing breaks, as there are no replacement parts. Very best wishes Sir.
@@---us7qf I don’t own any of these but I’m also very fortunate to have a collectors camera in my family that I’ll hopefully inherit once that time comes
This is what the Df should have been They could make these as a digital mirrorless like Fujifilm have with the X pro 1,2 & 3 series of mirrorless rangefinder bodies !
I have several Nikon F cameras. They're built like bricks and fun to use from time to time, but it's pretty clear that the F was a first try at an SLR. The ergonomics aren't great (the shutter release, for instance, is in an odd place) the removable back is inconvenient, the meter, if present, is primitive. They're pretty noisy. If Nikon brought out a new Nikon F, I don't think I'd buy one, even if the price was reasonable. I'd much rather see one of their later, more developed products, maybe an F3 or FM3a. Although of course, they don't have the same historical value as the F. I guess it might be fun to have a new black FtN with a meter that actually worked.
How’s shooting with the lens hood? I just got an S3 used. It didn’t come with the lens hood but I read that it obstructs some of the viewfinder. Did you have a problem? It’s such a beautiful camera.
Imagine if Canon did this with the P! Although Canon has always cared less about their past and more on their future. I just wish Nikon still made the F3.
Clearly a rookie, everyone knows you gotta close your bedroom door while lens cleaning. Would have been cool if they remade the frame line illumination too 👍🏻
Instead of reproducing the Nikon F, perhaps making an FM4a might do the trick to help Nikon's finances? Compared to the FM3a, the FM4a could have LED bars in the viewfinder to easier see the shutter speeds at night as well as an optional grip as seen on Olympus OM4 and OM3 cameras. I think the analog community market is now ripe for an FM4a, the FM3a came at a time when everyone was switching over to digital.
That sounds like the Voigtlander R3M. The way you describe the led indicators. Otherwise the shutter fires without battery on both the FM3A and R3M. Have both and are fantastic analog cameras. The R3M is fully mechanical. The FM3A has an aperture priority mode.
Thanks for doing this one! One fun fact about the S3 replicas - the "Nikon" logo is slightly raised from the original...once you see it, you can't unsee it. BTW, there are 2500 copies of the SP 2005. Also, make sure external mount lenses like the 3.5cm are set to infinity when mounting and unmounting. Otherwise, very informative video! I hope this helps revive some interest in this great system.
I found one at a garage sale. $5 Never touched. Never used. The guy said "i eanted a real camera and this one didnt even have a sensor. Garbage" (he bought it from a collector who died. And paid $35 for it)

I know Nikon were slow to commit properly to the mirrorless market because they didn't want to damage their SLR sales, but I find bizarre, given how Fuji (yuck) had/have so much success with their faux retro cameras that nobody at Nikon made a digital camera that looked exactly like the Nikon S, or better yet re-release a film Nikon S at the same time. They wouldn't even need to make a hundred different lenses for it. 3 would be enough. When you put a real camera like this next to an X100, you realise how ugly modern cameras are. But then I also find it bizarre that Fuji (yuck) don't re-release their MF rangefinders adapted to shoot instax, or any kind of decent instax camera....
Hope more camera manufacture open the idea to create modern time film camera. The optic and result was amazing in the video.
Or at least nikon try to make range finder camera again hope that happen one day
Imagine nikon reproducing the nikon F 😍, in this moment that would be great for analog photography community.
YES PLEASE, is there a petition we can sign to make this happen? To make the Nikon F while there are people who still know how to make them or at least pass down the technology.
My eyes just glowed when he said it lol 😂😍😍😍 It felt like “Could the king return one day...?”
Hopefully not costing an arm and a leg.
There are over 1000 listings for Nikon F on ebay . . . so . . . I don't think so.
I just bought myself a Nikon FM two days ago. In mint condition, looks like it was never used before.
For only 129 bucks. Crazy. 😁

Ahh memories of my first job. Camera sales 1973, nikon f photomic with 50 f1.4. 425 dollars canadian. Add 20 for black. Today an f would be 10k.

Truly amazing. Such a missed opportunity for Nikon, not having released an anniversary repro on their 100th anniversary in 2017.

In 2017 Nikon was beginning to wonder if they'd have a 105th Anniversary. I don't think it was in the cards.

my uncle used to have a SP. Unfortunately, it’s been lost to time...
I think I would be to afraid to take them outside. They are beautiful!
Incredibly cool. What a lovely photographic tool!
Maybe one day owning one will be possible 🙃
Good work man!!!
I'm so glad to have you making video's!
Nice video but you forgot to mention that the SP has now a cloth shutter vs the original titanium one
I wish they had come with a body cap and rear lens cap.
Is nobody going to comment about how he juggles two massively expensive and super rare cameras, with one not even strapped!?!?!!!!!?
Now this should have been the body of nikon Zfc. Which i would be happy to cop

Now I see why so many older lenses have cleaning marks. Just look at the intro.
Bell with the Kai W intro humor! :P
Can you imagine if leica reproduced the M3 to the same level of detail as this? Amazing : )
Well there is the M-P that ain’t far from that
just wooow

Someone needs to modify the nikonos 35 f/2.5 for modern mounts! They go for way cheaper than the rangefinder version.
Indeed hope they remake the Nikon F 😉
Not bad. Just missing a 5cm f/1.1.
so cool.
I'll never, ever, understand why a massive company like Nikon doesn't launch a new model, any model at all.
We're looking at a 9.5k euro camera, or st least that's what it goes for in Spain

Nikon had to get old techs to make them. Epic cameras. Had an sp and s2
Bellamy, which one is your favourite?
can you do a review of voigtlander bessa series?
If one comes in I will.
Awesome video. Thanks!!
🎉
Not a rangefinder fan - I'd much prefer a Nikon F...
They could do modern versions of these cameras,mirrorless...Z5 or Z6 looking like this! Df wasn't successful, maybe this could.
Hope they put the F6 dies and tools away with the assembly manuals in a salt mine for archival. Revive those gor their 110 year anniversary.
