Beautiful, respectful and informative documentaries...I envy your access to such a rich, diverse and ancient culture. Your work and understanding of this complex subject matter is both astonishing and humbling. Thank you for being there to bring us such a wealth of knowledge, beauty and profoundly moving imagery and commentary.
Love this family line since i was very young, yuya and Tuya have to be the most magnificenly preserved mummy'sin the world! , i always think to myself what riches would have survived if there had not had been grave robbers..what we do have is incredible ❤ you've done a great job giving fresh perspective to this families story❤
This is the first time I’ve seen this channel, and I’m blown away by the subs. This is great work and I hope you start getting the attention you deserve
I once received the biggest compliment from a nun who compared me to the bust of Nephertiti. That was, oh good Lord, 33 years ago now? It still remains the best compliment ever as far as im concerned
I'm so glad that you have produced this film, especially about Yuya and Tuya. They surely were the crucial couple of the later 18th Dynasty. I have read somewhere that Tuya was descended from the great queens at the very beginning of the 18th Dynasty (or end of 17th), Ahhotep I or Ahmose-Nefertari. I was pleasantly surprised to see last September items of Mutemwiya at the British Museum Egyptian sculpture hall, but I had not previously heard the suggestion that she was a Mitannian princess. Is that well attested? I have read that she may have been Yuya's sister, and of course all the signs of Yuya's possible foreign origin, but why was he so connected with Akhmim? Does the Hawass et al. (2010) DNA study show possible consanguinity between Yuya and Amenhotep III? You have brought together so many objects and attestations to create a compelling picture. I realise some of the connections are poorly supported, but it is a fascinating picture which hopefully more sophisticated DNA analysis and future discoveries will clarify. It would be great if more evidence can be gathered regarding the more distantly related notables of that period, allowing us to reconstruct the political structure and history of the New Kingdom in more depth. My final question: could Nefertari Meritmut have been descended from the Theban-Akhmim crowd radiating from Yuya and Tuya, strengthening the claim of the Avaris Ramessides to the throne? The work on Nefertiti is wonderfully thought-provoking. I'm no expert, but this presentation of newer and different viewpoints is great. 2:06:00 The Victorian-era destruction of mummies is horrific, but what is remarkable to me is how many of the New Kingdom royal mummies have actually survived, with either good or plausible identifications. Of course, that may be because the two main caches were well preserved, while the more peripheral ones seemingly involving the Amarna mummies were less propitious (KV21, KV35, KV55). Prejudice by Butehamun et al., or luck? 2:27:30 If she were still alive, Tiy would have been about 70 at Tutankhamun's accession, less if there was an AIII-AIV co-regency, an age probably still excluded by her apparent age at death, but given that Ay could not be much younger than Tiy, perhaps the more compressed timescale is indicated. But then we get into the length of Horemheb's reign... There's a chronological problem here.
Well the mention of mutemwija being mitani is mentioned by many, mostly because of the name etc. but there is some evidence that backs it up. As for Nefertari, she is most likely related to the Akhmim line, with her father probably being nakhtmin the son of Aye.
Do you think that that Akhenaten really was the first monotheist or the hebrews in his country taught him. Did the priests strangle hold on Egypts finances cause Akhenaten to go with with the one god idea or did he also really believe in the one god idea? Personally I think it was both.
Ankhesenamun! What a sad life. She loses her brother/husband and miscarried two daughters. Then she finds herself forced into marriage with her (possible) grandfather. Then, her life comes to a sad end. Of all of the figures in ancient Egypt, her humanity is profoundly felt.
Overall, this is nicely presented documentary and I do agree that KV21B is the best candidate that we have for the mummy of Nefertiti. However, some aspects are inaccurate and other aspects are based on older theories that are largely now discredited, such as Nefertiti dying which has been undermined by the recent Yr16 graffito discovery (see Aiden Dodson's discussion on 'zombie facts'). The investigation of KV55 was mishandled, especially the accidental destruction of the flesh of the mummy through hasty unwrapping but they did not use dynamite. The tomb was in disarray partially due to the incomplete removal of the Queen Tiye shrine in antiquity but most signficantly due to flooding which caused parts of the ceiling to collapse and artifacts to rot but this was not due to an explosion. Theodore Davis did misappropriate some smaller items, keeping some himself and giving others away to friends, and others were taken later from the Cairo museum in the 1930s if my memory is correct, but he did not remove the face of the coffin. He would have no incentive to do so and certainly did not do this for Yuya and Thuya tomb's (KV46) as you have presented. The main issue was he tried use the same haste as was used for KV46, without taking account of the poorer condition of KV55. The face that you see in the photograph is the carved wooden face of the coffin which was beneath the gold sheet one that was ripped off in antiquity. The wood of the coffin has degraded since due to insufficient conservation and so is now hardly distinguishable. In any case, the faces both wooden and gold would probably have been of Kiya (with the later addition of the beard) from whom the coffin was originally intended. You can tell this because the face is likely original in that the gold brow band line was later scratched in as was also done on the canopic jars. I would recommend correcting these aspects in the video.
Although I appreciate it and don’t want to sound rude, I don’t think I’ll take the “recommendation” to correct anything. The armarna period is a mess. This is the research being presented here, most of what you see in many years old in this video. But to say it’s discredited is not fair as nothing is proven on either side
@@CurtisRyanWoodside apologies if I came across as rude for my part. I hadn't realised how far back some of the material was recorded, although I do still prefer that material is updated where possible in new editions to reflect new developments (in the field of the literature - the newer editions of Aiden Dodson's Amarna Sunset and Nicholas Reeves' Complete Tutankhamun are too really good examples of such updates). That said, I also recognise that many people do not like to re-edit older work and I appreciate that it is time consuming and gets in the way of new work, and I respect your response and views. The Amarna period certainly is a mess, although one for which some greater clarity and consensus has emerged in recent years with the availability of new and the more careful re-examination of the existing material. This means that certain long established theories while not possible to completely disapprove are now looking much less likely whereas once the available evidence favoured them. In the case of the Nefertiti dying before Akhenaten, then this at one time looked a promising explanation due to the usurption of the monuments of a Queen at the Maru-aten (Kiya not being known about at this time), the lack of clear depictions of her after Yr 12, the 'problem' Nefertiti Shabti of unknown provenance in the Louvre (which I was fortunate enough to be able to see last weekend - this one does make me wonder though as there is an extremely good quality fake statue of similar form of an Amarna princess displayed as a warning in my local museum in Bolton, UK) and the suggestion of a female Pharoah in the period being in its infancy. However, with the exception of the Shabti most of this evidence is now undermined. I guess that this is why the Nefertiti as co-regent and successor to Akhenaten theory seems to be more prominently presented in some of your component episodes which I presume are the more recent ones. Regardless, I would like to restate that I do really enjoy your documentaries into which you clearly put an enormous amount of time, expense and enthusiasm. In particular, I find the facial reconstructions quite convincing. I have watched the Nefertiti mummy one many times and do appreciate that you invite multiple Egyptologists to air their views and let the viewers make there own conclusions from the evidence. I also liked the close-ups and highlighting that show the Golden Throne which is the clearest that I've been able to see of where the earlier figure of Nefertiti has been removed. I'm looking forward to Nicholas Reeves' forthcoming publication on the throne as he makes some major assertions regarding the alterations to the Throne in Complete Tutanhkamun but has yet to present the evidence in detail. One question, I have if you can provide some more explanation is you state that traces of Ay's name appear on Thuya's coffin. I had not heard about this previously, are you able to share some details on what these traces are and what your source is for this? My personal view on Ay based on the DNA evidence is that he more likely Thuya's blood nephew than son which would explain why a number alleles of Thuya appear in the KV62 foetuses which are not present in Tut but no additional alleles of Yuya appear either in the foetuses or KV61A and B, these seeming to be good candidates for Ankhesenamun and Nefertiti. For own sanity and maybe eventually a publication I'm looking to pull together the statistics on this but a crude examination suggests that it is unlikely that Ay is Yuya's son. However if Ay were Yuya's nephew by marriage and he could still be in close relationship with him to inherit the titles that did not go to Anen.
In November 2022 Zahi Hawass was to reveal the results of DNA tests of the two KV21 mummies and the boy found in KV35. He was going to announce that he had found Nefertiti, and that the DNA of the boy was the key, presumably because he knew that the results showed him to be a half brother of Tutankhamun. The announcement never took place, Hawass saying that there were still some difficulties with the KV21 mummies DNA, both are in very bad condition. This seems to have gone cold, yet for those of us who have studied the Amarna Period for some years, this information will be revelatory, and even if one of the KV21 mummies is not Nefertiti, it's still an event that Tutankhamun has a brother. Is it known when Hawass will reveal these results.
@@MachiavellisApprentice-nv4dx I’ve actually spoken to Dr Hawass about this before the they started the dna tests, and after. Because the bodies had been damaged by flood water and ancient explorers touching them without gloves etc the dna results were corrupted and they are trying to find ways to get a clean dna sample that has not been contaminated. KV21b is most likely Nefertiti and KV21a is most likely Ankhesenamun.
@@CurtisRyanWoodside Thank's for the reply. I'm expecting the same results, when they are released. If this is the case, then I agree that the YL is probably Kiya, but there remains an issue with her name, and no reference to a daughter of AIII with that name. Then the boy, a son of Nefertiti ?, presumably, and younger or older than Tutankhamun ?, and died in an accident?, falling down stairs?, off the back of a chariot ?. So many questions remain, never gets boring, never. Would Hawass release the boy's DNA result if there is a failure with the KV21 mummies, and surely he has good and full results from him. Surely he is the only known son of Nefertiti, which is newsworthy. I hope the wait for the results is not too far off.
Joann Fletcher was the first to examine these mummies. I saw a video many many yrs back when she found in that tomb those three mummies . And a wig laying on the floor next to them . She tried to tell us that the younger lady was Nefertiti . Dr. Hawas shot her down and that video is no longer available to see. Kiya wasn't Tut's mom, the DNA evidence indicates 1 that Tiya is the grandma of the 2 fetuses found in Tut's tomb (a lock of hair) and 2 that the DNA of the Younger Lady found in KV 35 was Tut's mom who was a daughter of Tiya and Amenhotep III. Since 2 of their daughters were married to their father, Amenhotep III ( Sitamun and Iset) that leaves 3 others, none of which are named Kiya. Little is known about Kiya or, for that matter, Nefertiti. All sorts of suggestions have been floated, but evidence is lacking, though one of the mummies in KV 21 maybe Nefertiti. As the 18th Dynasty Pharoahs were known for marrying their sisters and daughters, it could be that the Younger Lady was Ahkenaten's youngest sister, Beketaten? Tiya had two brothers, one was Ay who became Pharoah after Tut. That would make Ay an uncle of Ahkenaten and a grand uncle of Tut. Don't know if Ay's title as 'God's Father' would apply to his claim of kinship to Tut. But then Egyptians may have different ideas of kinship than us. There's no proof that he's the father of Nefertiti.
sorry to burst your bubble, if you listen to the clip again, those are captive enemies of Egypt with the name of their lands, that specific one is a Kushite / Nubian
Not everything was recorded. And during the Amarna period the names were often changed. Younger lady is Kiya. End of discussion. I don’t appreciate your tone either. Have a discussion, don’t be bossy!

Don't know if Ay's title as 'God's Father' would apply to his claim of kinship to Tut. But then Egyptians may have different ideas of kinship than us. There's no proof that he's the father of Nefertiti.
Kiya is the younger lady from kv35. I think you and I have had this conversation before?
The younger lady ( 1:30) looks as though her facial injuries could’ve been caused by a horse kick?
Why does the art work show elongated skulls?
Some suggest it was an art style, however the skull of tut shows a genetic defect most likely from inbreeding
Thank you Curtis
The cartouche at 12:29 is not Nubian that title said upper Egyptian not nubian
sorry to burst your bubble, if you listen to the clip again, those are captive enemies of Egypt with the name of their lands, that specific one is a Kushite / Nubian
Tutankhamon' mother is not Kya. His mother is The Younger Lady, daughter of his grandmother Tyi and sister of his father.
Kia… is the younger the lady 🙈
@CurtisRyanWoodside No! The Younger Lady is the sister of Akhenaton. Her name is unknown. Tyi never had a daughter with this name.
Not everything was recorded. And during the Amarna period the names were often changed. Younger lady is Kiya. End of discussion. I don’t appreciate your tone either. Have a discussion, don’t be bossy!
@CurtisRyanWoodside The Queen Tyi did'nt have a daughter with the name Kya. Search for all her daughters.
