Im in a 9-5 job as an embedded engineer for the past 10 years. Lately I feel like my job is soul sucking but coming across his videos reminded me why I went and became an engineer in the first place. Sir, thank you for reminding me the passion of being an engineer.

Please dont try to open up a microwave. There are parts inside that carry a very high and lethal amount of voltage even for a long time after you unplug it. Lots of people got seriously injured or died because of this
I am one of those people. I liked taking them apart and using it's innards for my high voltage experiments. I started when I was 12yr old. At the start I never knew what a capacitor was, but have felt the shock from smaller ones. Thank God I've never got shocked from a microwave. They can kill you, like the guy above says. If your kids want to learn about electricity, teach them the very basics and fundamentals first. They have very cheap and fun experiments kids can do. If the reader is thinking about doing it, make sure to know where every capacitor is, and know what can and can't shock you. Wear correct personal protective equipment. Also read up about radiation.
Beryllium oxide, once inhaled (the dust particles once the pink material is crushed, kills you within oh 30 minutes give or take ,depending on body size, etc) But u didn't hear it from me.

The microwave is also built as a faraday cage to prevent the electrons - the microwave radiation - from escaping. The metal mesh on the inside of the glass door is part of this faraday cage. Making the idea that microwaves cause cancer utterly absurd.
The electrons don't actually enter the cavities. As the arms of the swirling electron cloud pass by the opening of the cavity they repel the electrons in the cavity wall around the circular circumference of the cavity - first in one direction and then back in the other direction. This excites the cavity and makes it ring at the tuned frequency. The circular wall of the cavity is an inductor (L) and the gap at the opening is a capacitor (C). As such the cavity is essentially an LC circuit that can oscillate or ring when its excited. This produces the microwaves that go out through the gap and then exit the magnetron.
Creative... It wasn't intentional to make a food heater, someone noticed it feel warm when you got close to it. Like many things got discovered, not invented.
Not really. This works on an atomic level, using particles (electrons) bouncing around and basically hitting the particles inside the food, creating movement and as a result friction. The friction is actually what is heating the food, not the electrons themselves, and is why microwaves can sometimes cause unevenly heated meals. Fun fact, but this is technically the same way fire cooks food on a stove, on an atomic level - it causes the particles to move and hit each other and that results in friction, which causes heat.
I think my uncle was working for Raytheon when all this came to light about what the magnetron would really do. One of his friends had a chocolate Hershey in his pocket melt when a magnetron was turned on near him.
If you make the voltage high enough electricity will flow without wires. Lightning is a good example. The air ionizes and it conducts the electricity just like a wire does. The only practical application of sparking that I can think of is a spark plug, where electricity flows across the gap to ignite the fuel/air mixture inside the cylinder.
@@A_n.t_i.s_o.c_i.a_l Wireless chargers are basically transformers. The primary coil is inside the charger and the secondary coil is inside the device being charged. As such the energy is being transferred electromagnetically and not by current flow, so technically its not electricity without wires.
@A_n.t_i.s_o.c_i.a_l @jbfarley this may sound weird, but I heard this claim from someone whom I otherwise trust very much who claims to have graduated with a BA in molecular chemistry. (Although, admittedly, he did say this on Quora) he claimed that microwave radiation heats food by the rotation of water molecules within. This rotational force is unlike all other types of heating, which are otherwise constrained by neighboring molecules. This rotation allows for the buildup of extreme levels of heat well beyond the boiling point of water, and is demonstrated by microwaving water for 5 minutes plus and observing the explosive eruption of superheated steam as soon as you open the microwave door. This same mechanism by which microwaves heat food also has the potential to create carcinogens in food, even at the levels we commonly use to reheat dinner. I've never heard anything like this, and he did say things along the line of "this presents a problem for the microwave industry" I don't want to go believing in conspiracy theories. Can anyone chime in?

Why do the electrons pool in each cavity before moving? Or in other words, why do they bunch and not just swirl

I mean have wireless chargers and stuff, but like wireless electricity in household applications is probably too inefficient. Its possible I think idk

Is it true that radiation heats the molecules inside food to an unnaturally high tempurature that creates carcinogens unlike other cooking methods?
Not really no. The microwaves excite the water molecules in food which causes heat to form and cook the food. So no carcinogens
Obviously not
