A wonderful movie! I am not a shame to say that I cry at the end of this movie every time I see it. I am so very glad it cannot be remade. Its stars Greer Garson who died 25 years ago today, and Ronald Coleman were perfect as Paula and "Smitty".There chemistry so romantic and wonderful. This film prove that love does not die, that it continues on no matter what happens.
Oh my gosh, I just watched this for the first time and it is absolutely BRILLIANT. The acting is SUPERB, the writing is wonderful, the scenery, the pacing, the MAGNIFICENT story, their love!!! 10/10 recommend to everyone!
One of my favorite films of all time. The two main characters are so kind to each other which makes me love this film so much.
Indeed both kinds matuere and respectful best characters i have seen
I've just watched it today very beautiful didnt expect it since first 15 minutes felt my heart about to cry me the actor very innocent and actress very kind humble quiet and patient woman they unique both and finally i find the kind of actors and story that i feel myself in
Extraordinary movie about how love really does conquer all. Very noble. Incredible acting. Ronald Colman and Greer Garson are wonderful together, and the chemistry between them is palpable.
All I can say is that they don't make films like this today. I've just watched it again for the umpteenth time and was pretty emotional by the enduring and patient love Paula has for Charles (Smithy). There couldn't have been a dry eye in the cinema when it was first shown. One of my all time favourites.
I have been searchin' for this movie.... watched it as a kid
I’m about to watch this movie for the first time
It is a shame that many movies even ones 60-80 years old are still copyright protected and not public domain. Most if not all actors have passed away years ago.
In contrast to other countries. I remember the Falklands War back in '83, and what's interesting is all the Argentinian photos etc are out of copyright, while the British ones are likely to be in copyright for seventy years after the original owner has died!
Why is it a shame?
@@randywhite3947 Because if there are not enough people wanting to pay to see the movie to satisfy the copyright holders the movie just sits forever. For many old movies people don't even know they exist as the copyright holders have long since stopped promoting the movie. In public domain anyone can post the movie at little to no cost or risk and people can see it. Most old movies held in copyright are simply locked down by corporations.
@@randywhite3947 Because it means it's difficult to see them. I appreciate there is a need for copyright protection (I'm an author myself) but 70 years after death of author is too much IMO. It used to be 50 years which was more sensible.
Right up there with my FAVORITE movies of all time!
an outstanding movie-an outstanding cast.....
Just watched this for the first time today and it was such a beautiful movie.
My favourite film of all time.
Wonderful film.
Oh, won't somebody please put together this whole film - They are so well matched in this film'- I would just LOVE to see this whole film again
🙂 👍💯✔💟
Is This The Movie That Holden Caulfield Sees At The Radio City In Chapter 18 Of Catcher In The Rye? I Think It Is!
I'm going to watch it this week. 8 thought I had seen every classic b&w but then I heard about this. Already have the book ordered!
Great film loved it you have to watch❤ it
Classic ❤️
My favorite move ♥️
Good trailer, but the sound is really low.
Interesting how it isn't compared to Gone With The Wind.
Probably just as well, considering GWTW is politically incorrect now.
@@thursoberwick1948 I think GWTW has always been politically incorrect. Obviously never read the book, but I've never cared for the depiction of Rhett Butler or Belle Watling in that movie, as tho they are just too flawed to let anything bother them. It's not a grand epic about the old south as many would like to believe.
But not getting into that, I see I commented on Random Harvest five years ago. I've never seen Random Harvest, but now I'd like to. I need to rectify some of these movies I've never seen.
@@2up3rm4n1 GWTW has come under heavy fire in the last year, because of the Civil War and slavery issues. It hasn't been banned, but I believe Netflix now has a five minute "intro" which they say puts it in context.
"Random Harvest" doesn't look as if it goes much into this terrtory, but the novel is by the author of "Lost Horizon" also turned into a film. That's a good film, but it has numerous issues with yellowface, and there's a line about saving "white people" from the Boxer Rebellion. It's a shame that people just pick over negative aspects, but that's what they do and it endangers films which have many good points to them too.
@@thursoberwick1948 I've always had issues with GWTW, being from the south, and with it having to be such a grand epic and all, I've just found a lot of it falls very short and isn't as compelling as it has always supposed to have been.
As far as the slavery issue goes, the movie doesn't show any of that, really. The assumption seems to be the O'Hara's had a thriving family business or something, but again, there are just too many things wrong with the movie, again, from the noble Rhett Butler getting mad at Scarlett for a promise she made on a woman's deathbed to the cockamamie lawn sprinklers.
For some reason I cannot comprehend, I obtained Lost Horizon back in the VHS days, so I've seen it, but I don't know why now. I might have to watch it again after all of this.
@@2up3rm4n1 The obv prob is that Gwtw is a very long film which doesn't sit well with today's often attention deficient viewers. I haven't seen it for years, although my mother sat me down to watch it one afternoon years ago. Other than the lush music, I remember odd things like Scarlett making a dress from green curtains (drapes) because my mother pointed this out to me.
Lost Horizon includes a scene on the plane where Conway says, "Did you say we saved 90 white people?" - within the context of the film, it makes sense as there are attacks being made on westerners by the Chinese at the time. (Which did actually happen, although obviously the unrest was just as rough on Chinese themselves.) People latch onto these things unfortunately, along with transracial casting.
My favorite movie. Does anyone see the resemblance between Greer Garson and a young Meryl Streep.?
Elizabeth Whatley Have always loved Greer Garson. I do see the resemblance to Meryl Streep. Both classy beauties.

Not much of a trailer; just saying they made a wonderful movie out of a great book.

What's it about though?
What is the basic theme?
This novel is not well remembered. Fairly or unfairly?
