  • Review of the NEW Mele Overclock 4c mini PC, is this possibly the best mini PC for Astrophotography...yet..??
Includes a useful tip on keeping a full back up copy of your imaging PC hard drive.
Sent direct from Mele themselves, so a big thanks to them.
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions..

PLEASE NOTE: I did not mention that the RAM modules are fully upgradeable, and not soldered to the M/Board as in many mini PC’s, there is 1 slot and will take up to 32gb RAM.

Great rundown on the mini PC. Seems like a very popular brand of mini PC for astro especially as it runs on 12v.

Great review mate looks a nice bit of kit, I think another point is could Mele make a model with a built in hotspot so you can connect via a mobile device using remote desktop so it could be used out in the field then it would be perfect.

Thanks very much, well funny you should say that, see the latest video by Cuiv the lazy geek, he explains how to set up the hotspot on this very PC for use out in the field…👍🏻

I just got a quieter 4C N100 but haven't done anything with it yet. It's very small and light! I didn't get the overclock because I wanted to keep the power usage down to manage battery life. You can set the N100 power use in the bios - I think it defaults to about 20W but can be ramped up to 30W max. May not be the same with the overclock version? That's a good idea to clone Windows to the ssd. Mine has the 256 + 256 split also. Might as well update the Windows 11 first then clone the eMMC to the included 256GB? Then upgrade the ssd, put the original in a safe place, then re-clone. One can normally partition so could put the Windows in a 256GB partition then have ~750GB free (less overprovisioning). I guess put astro software on the eMMC first - or not necessary? I'm not sure how well my setup is going to work yet. I'm in a second floor flat... My plan is to link a pc to the mount/mini computer via a wifi travel router. The mele obviously already has wifi but I'm not sure what range it has, so I bought the travel router just in case, really. Fingers crossed!

      Thanks for the comment.
I think you will find the Mini PC excellent.
I would set up all the software you want on it, as well as update the windows, then clone the windows eMMC drive over to the SSD drive, then remove that SSD, (if you are upgrading to a bigger one) and put your new one in, and then clone the eMMC into that one, and ready to go, when all is good, you could then wipe the eMMC and use that for extra storage.
Or you could just use your new drive (assuming you upgraded) as it will be bigger, and leave the eMMC as is, and you can just change the boot order and boot from that eMMC if you ever need to, as that will be your back up, then no need for a separate back up drive at all.
Not sure if I explained all that to well, but any questions please ask..👍🏻

Yeah, hope so! All my other ssd's are Samsung so thought I'd get another one of those :) Might as well be a 1TB so plenty of storage! I wouldn't expect a super high speed but must be loads better than eMMC! I just hope there aren't any problems with updating the Windows 11... I suppose it will be simpler to just put a new ssd in, partition it, and clone to 256GB partition. Samsung has it's own cloning tool but only works with Samsung... I'm going to keep everything away from the internet apart from occasional updates :)@@Astro_Shed

How do you clone the drive from eMMC to SSD drive?

    • @Astro_Shed
      @Astro_Shed  17 дней назад

Thanks for the question, you need a third party software like Macrium reflect which is free, to do the clone, then you just select the drive to be cloned and the destination drive and let it do its thing…it’s really simple..👍🏻

12v USB port to power it? They certainly don't listen to astrophotographers...

Yes I have asked them if that would consider putting an adapter in the box for us Astro guys 👍
