Hell yes, I think the best part about shooting film compared to digital is the combination of experimentation and delayed gratification, don’t really know what you’re going to get on these older cameras
Awesome to see the shots! Two film photographers stand before a wheat field during sunrise capturing images. One ask the other, "what are you shooting today?" The other responds, "porta 160" One then asks, "why so?" The other responds, "exactly, I don't like a lot of grain in my photo's."
Awesome!! In the digital age, introducing myself to film has definitely reignited the flame for shooting for fun - that Olympus is going to rip!! Congrats
Film labs will often give processed jpegs so these are already edited a bit for things like color cast, contrast, saturation and exposure. More professional places will give you untouched tiff files that look pretty terrible at first without any adjustments.
Great video man! That first roll is always so special. The Canon AE-1 is a great camera too, been using it for years. Also, fw you getting on CBD. I've used the oil a little bit, but sadly it's banned in Australia. Keen to see more of your work!
Ben Droege dude I was in the middle of shooting another video last night and the winding mechanism locked up!! Need to figure out what the hell is going on now lol
@@guypiaquadio Oh mann that sucks! At least you have another one if it breaks. Winders do tend to jam at times, and then all of a sudden it'll work again. There's tonnes of videos out there on how to repair it, so would suggest checking some of them out.
jsut got my first film camera it’s also the AE1!! Just did a shoot at a sunflower patch, picking up the scans today! I’m moving to San Diego in two weeks for college and I’m stoked.
Ismail Hacking congrats, man!! Also, San Diego is one of my favorite cities, top 5.. you’re going to have a lot of fun there, it’s an awesome lifestyle
@@guypiaquadio Shoot some black and white. It was a revelation to see how different films handle it, and you can push the hell out of the better films (Tri-X and HP5+). Digital b&w just never seems to equal it.
@@guypiaquadio Yeah, I am too. I grew up with Kodachrome (I'm old), and the modern films don't really do reds and greens like that, but I still love to shoot P400 and 800, among a few others.
basically if you set the iso slower than the box speed, it over exposes X amount of stops during the development process - id be lying if I said I knew why but it has something to do with you rating the film as if it has enough light and it being developed as if it didnt have enough light
if you're in LA theres this place and its 10$ flat and super fast! youll have your photos within 2 or 3 hours! its called "Fromex One Hour Photo" in san gabriel! not quite LA but near
Thanks! We ended up moving to Austin, TX but will keep this in mind next time I’m in town - I’m sure other local viewers might find this helpful too. Thanks again!!
Most film labs develop and scan then send you the files via Dropbox, wetransfer, etc. is that what you mean? After that I load them into Lightroom and make light adjustments to color if necessary, straighten, and anything else that might be needed
@@guypiaquadio ah okay so they can actually send you digital copies? Forgive my noobieness I’m wanting to get into film photography after only shooting digital but it baffles my head ahah
@@EarthtoAdam95 yes exactly! Some offer jpgs & TIFs for an additional cost. Most offer different sizes as well. Depending on the roll I get the largest, highest quality file - sometimes I’ll get a smaller file but usually get the tif files regardless
Watching these vids while waiting for my own film to be developed. This video is S tier outta nowhere.
Is S tier good? Lol thanks for watching and subscribing!!
@@guypiaquadio S is considered over A in terms of grading, especially in japan
Loved this - I just did the same got the AE1 and testing it out

This was cool man. I just picked up an Olympus OM1 and excited to finally use film

This was very entertaining to watch hahah. I just got an AE-1 from my grandfather so thanks for making this video!

Yes def, these were tiffs - I’ve actually been trying to find a shop literally all over the US that is as good as this one tbh

Nice photos. I’m from LA but have yet to photograph the city. Yours inspired me to try. I’ll try Portra 400 as well.
So awesome! I think I’m switching to 800 since I prefer shooting golden hour into blue hour, lots to experiment with!

nice vid, dropped a sub
Thank you!!
i been using a canon ae-1 since i was 10 years old it was my dads camera and it mine now
I have a ae1 but i have no idea how to use it
Maybe I should make a video on different ways to approach shooting on a film camera
@Matt Treez They're literally everywhere all over youtube. Just search.
@Leii Oh yeah, not saying I wouldn't like to watch it, just that there's a ton of videos already if someone wonders how to use an AE-1.
Where did you buy this
I got this on eBay
Any idea if they sell EXPIRED FILM?
You can find expired film on eBay
that shot at 6:35 on ektar damn it's badly overexposed. Orage totally washed out flat:(
To each their own my guy!
Sorry but "east side" is anything east of DTLA. Cool vid!
Thanks! Yeah, people use “east side” veryyy loosely there haha - thank you for watching and commenting
In India could not find them online, would love a giveaway 😀
i can do a giveaway at 1,000 subscribers, until then there won't be enough people interested lol

Koreatown the eastside? Oh so you don't live here.
