When someone gets to that state, sometimes it’s safest to call the police or ambulance. They police can call a Crisis Assessment Team, which specially deals with suicidal people and helps them stay safe until they calm down a bit. He could have overpowered his sister and his mother and killed himself, and they would have felt really sad and responsible.
so if you found your brother trying to commit suicide or potentially going to, you wouldn't call the police?
also its not your right to say how they should react in a situation like that from the outside looking in.
@@ElectricPansies I hear you and I agree with you in the sense that sometimes calling the police is necessary, if the situation demands that and there isn't much else you can do to keep a person safe.
I can only speak from personal experience, but there is a difference between people calling the ambulance for you OR the police on you because you're trying to end your life. It can be extremely traumatising for a suicidal individual to have the police get involved and take you away.. I guess it depends on which country you're in too, at least for where I live, where police involvement could most likely lead to a lenghty involuntary mental ward stay and will always show up on any kind of background check - record thing if you eventually decide to maybe work with children. Which is just crap and will at times be held against you.
So yes, do call an ambulance (police as last resort) if that's what is best for the person in crisis. But like in the case of this guy, maybe try to listen to him and talk to him, respond calmly rather than react to this in such explosive way that, again, can be extremely traumatising for the person in crisis.

@@leviun007able i understand the situation. He had made a note and had some pills and his sister found it. Obviously told mom they fought. Sister ran to bathroom with phone. I get that she was scared. She had every right to be scared. I feel for the brother though too. Emotional pain is every bit as agonizing as physical pain it just cant be validated with a wound. His acts were of desperation not of malice. I honestly believe a good open honest conversation can help a lot of people. Hes not alone in the pain there are tons of people who could relate maybe a little more specifically to his situation than i could but i still understand where they are both coming from. I sincerely hope hes in a safe space and happy. 💕
100%. The police are not a good choice when it comes to mental health assistance. They do not have the proper education or training, and often times have shot victims to death.

i’m older than my brother by eight years and most of these questions don’t apply cause we both went to boarding school at different times so each of us had almost equal amounts of attention from our parents cause they could focus on one at a time.

Both of the sisters sibling said, "the sister on the right spoils HERSELF more I spoil MYSELF." The other 3 mentioned their parents. Just odd and I'm surprise the producers said nothing. @@EmanuelGene calmly talked to him. Ask if he is currently suicidal and what can be done to help get them help with their consent. There are a lot of options that don't involve police. Also police have a bad habit of shooting people experiencing a mental health crisis.

The asian siblings kind of reminded me of my experience with suicide, i was trying to commit suicide by cutting myself and my older sister somehow found out and called my mom, they broke down the door and literally started beating me so i would let go of the knife? Idk if it was out of desperation or something else but it didn’t help. So maybe… be gentle with people who are trying to commit suicide and definitely do not call police on them🤦🏻♀️
My older siblings used to play catch with me. I was the ball. My older siblings taught me how to hop a fence. Meanwhile I taped my little sister to the arch on the hallway. I've also taught my sister how to use the oven and stove 😂😂😂 I love my siblings but sometimes I hesitate to claim them

^ This is spreading misinformation ^ When someone gets to that state, it’s RECOMMENDED to call the police (especially if they are behaving in a manner that is threatening to you) OR ambulance, either will do. They will call a Crisis Assessment Team, which specially deals with suicidal people and helps them stay safe until they calm down a bit. They don’t provide therapy but can provide assistance for the person to access therapy or get into a psych ward for a bit after. If people don’t call for help, it can end pretty badly.

Cops don't know how to handle a mentally unstable individual most of the time and can end up hurting or killing them as we've seen consistently in recent news with mentally unwell individuals being killed by police. Also, having police presence gives a suicidal person a clear shot at suicide by cop.

Hey there, sister here. This happened back in 2008, I was about 15 or 16, while my brother was 13 or 14. They cut it out of the video, but I have reflected back on that situation many times and I do regret how I panicked.
Compared to back then, I have learned how to handle crisis situations and what I should do if that were to happen to someone close to me, or anybody in general.
The relationship I have with my brother is, and will probably always will be rocky because of how things were growing up, but I do love him and want him to be happy.

No, you shouldn't regret how you panicked. As someone who has 10+ years in the mental health industry, many don't understand how close he was to actually carrying it out. He had the thoughts, had the method(s)/ means, and the plan for carrying it out. He was one bad sec/ minute/ moment/ thought away from doing something that would have been such a sad event. You were young, you didn't know how to handle it at that time, but you saved his life, because even if he wasn't actively attempting too at the time, it may have just been a matter of a ticking time clock away before he actually was successful.
If they did another video in much the same format, separate rooms, maybe different times, and asked the questions to we can get some real uninfluenced actual anserws, just pure vulnerability.
I would like to know:
How you felt when you found the items?
How did you feel when you read the letter?
What were his reasons?
What was he dealing with at the time?
What was so overwhelming or so painful that he felt that he couldn't or wasn't strong enough to get through or past or deal with?
Why did he think this was an option at the time?
What effect did he think it would have had if he was successful in his attempt?
How does he think it would have effected others if he was successful?
If I'm not mistaken, I believe yall have atleast one other sibling, if so, what is the relationship dynamic between the other sibling( s) and each of you?
How did they handle the event?
Considering that you labeled y'all relationship as "Rocky", what is/ are something's that you would like your brother to know about how you feel about, or think about him; that you think
He just may not be getting or understanding?
Were you going through anything at the time, issues of your own?
Had you had the same issues as him, thoughts as him? If so how did you deal with it, get through it?
Why do you think he was in that mental/ emotional space? What do you think drove or took him to that space/ place?
Have those issue been addressed, and resolved?
I think a video would help others to know that they arent the only ones in these spaces, they aren't alone. I think it would help others to gather the strength to fight through, and inspire others to not lose hope and continue to push through. To realized that they aren't alone, and they do have people who care, and want them here. And how devastating to others the lose of them would be.

Me and my brother had the worst most toxic relationship to the point where we just hated each other and everything became a fight whether it was physical or emotional.. But despite all of that pain and abuse we were there for each other and that brought us closer now as we have gotten older. I sometimes fear that my brother has suicidal thoughts and i can tell you right now.. With all the emotional growth that we have had throughout the years, if i ever found a box like that from my older brother? I wouldn't call the cops.. I would beat his ass up worse than all the abuse years combined just to make him feel how much i love him😂 and he would do the same for me

I hit him in the head with a solid block of a plastic toy that weighed I'd say.... 5lbs, a Sulli from Monsters inc toy for any who wonder. He bled and cried and Mom came in and screamed (we were like, 5 and 8?)....
Years later I threaten him "I'll bring out the Sulli doll" and we both are crying laughing and literally talk about how fucked it is whilst laughing, ahhh good times
