Took one for a test drive today. I had shortlisted it alongside the new Sportage, X-Trail, and XC40... I had already taken the Sportage for a test drive... The Austral won me over straight away, ordering it tomorrow.

Which version did you test drive? And what won it over Sportage and Volvo for you? Thanks

Test driving Iconic today. Having watched many videos, I think I'll be coming out of Kadjar auto diesel. More to follow.

Impressed? I certainly am, been driving diesels for 38 years and never thought I would see myself in a petrol. Well, this car is something else, so impressed I ordered one. Power from the1.2 engine, electric motors and battery make it a superb car for economy and power. I had to look at dash to see if engine was on or electric, it was but I couldn't hear it. Now a waiting delivery.

Great to see a review in the UK of the Austral. I am awaiting delivery of mine hopefully by end of June. Whilst your review is welcomed you didn’t mention the HUD standard on all three UK models, which is absolutely terrific, and your explanation of the electric propulsion elements was not entirely accurate. As you drove the top spec, no mention of the four wheel steering that is fitted either. As this is really a promotion video for a motor retailer a tad disappointing to miss out key sales features. That centre support is not only a moveable cover but primarily a rest for your arm or wrist when using the infotainment screen. I am moving from an EV to the Austral as after six months ownership my range anxiety on frequent long trips I undertake removes all the enjoyment of driving. Even my wife asks me to stop looking at miles per kWh, range left and get out of ECO drive mode! So should be attractive for all drivers not just current diesel owners. On test drives, around town I drove almost exclusively in EV mode. This is the car I should have bought and not a pure EV. Wait for better charging infrastructure, destination chargers (hotels, guest house, holiday rentals, theme parks, cinemas, shopping centres etc) and new batteries (a new British designed battery can charge to full in six minutes) before considering an EV and buy this Austral instead.

Silly question, but can I ask where the 'gear lever' is on the Austral please? At first I thought it was the 'centre support' but can see it's no there.

@@mikeswain9085 The drive selector is top stalk on right behind steering wheel, beneath that is stalk for wipers and beneath that stalk for media. Soon get used to it. You can’t select gears, the “auto box” chooses right combo for you out of 15 possibilities, it does get indecisive at times but not an issue. The paddles behind the steering wheel are for regen, great feature whilst driving in town, twisty roads etc. I absolutely adore the Austral and after four months of ownership just love being behind the wheel. Few people, if any, will regret its purchase.

I ordered Techno Esprit Alpine this month. Even before i took it for a test drive it caught my eye and i was 90% sure I want it and it became 100% after the test drive. The car is gorgeous and a delight to drive. After the test drive i ordered it right away. I should be getting it at the start of April.

Beautiful car! I'm not sure about the engine but everybody is talking positive about the dynamics of the car so in the end I really think it's a great choice.🍀👍🥇

I’m so close to ordering one of these but I’m really put off by that drivers door hinge. I sat in 2 Australs last week and both had creaking door hinges. I noticed when you opened the drivers door on this vid it made a horrible noise too. Hmmmm

The RS Line, Renault Sport, brought sporty appeal, Alpine is just a marketing gimmick for some reason as in F1 yet, Alpine sports cars have been around for 50 years.
The Alpine name has never been used on Renault mainstream cars before. Not even when the original hot hatch the Renault 5 turbo was introduced. Alpine has always been a separate model though owned by Renault.
The Austral was designed by the same fella that designed the Peugeot 3008 mark 2.

Apologies, we do try to keep a balance but usually the first cars to arrive are the top spec. Now it’s been out for a little while, I will see if I could re-visit this video will an entry level trim car.

Hmm, why mention the 1.2 petrol engine once, and the rest of the time talk about a diesel engine…very confusing!

I’m happy we’re not getting the new Espace in the UK. It’s just a stretched Austral.
The Espace nameplate has been axed in the UK since 2012.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... It is all fine and dandy and the hybrid makes it super economical and Bla Bla bla and then they make it a huge suv and it ends spending more fuel than a first generation Laguna....
    We need more economical cars.
Wait... Wasn't the whole point of this video to show us it was more economical than a diesel? You never said anything about the mileage, except it "was great" but what about actual figures?
