Body Hydration: The Key to Improved Performance, Health, and Life | Chris Gintz | TEDxHiltonHead

- Monitoring your body hydration is the key to maintaining good health. New, non-invasive instruments make it possible for people of all ages to scientifically take over monitoring their hydration level. The implications are staggering: improved physical performance; improved health; improved longevity; the reduced incidence of disease; and lower health care costs. The inventor of the notebook computer takes us on his next challenge: creating a device that accurately detects hydration levels (through a simple breath sample) to identify when and how to create maximum body hydration. Chris Gintz is the inventor of the notebook computer and other complex instruments. His newest invention, called the hydration measurement instrument, is a microwave rotational spectrometer for the scientific measurement of hydration that anyone aged 3-100 may use. His new instrument methods make it possible for people of all ages to scientifically take over monitoring their hydration level. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
When he said he was a felon the room got dead silent😂😂
This guy dehydrated me.
I don't think he's had a glass of water in like 8 years
Me too
🤣🤣🤣
Jesus is the truth .

Why is he telling me his life story I just want to know about hydration
right?
That’s why I stopped watching TED talks. They hardly ever get straight to the point. They usually beat around the bush halfway through the presentation.
Mind your business kid!
He seems like a very intelligent individual who made a mistake of trying to impress a girl. I hope to see his invention in the near future.
This man is pretty clever. He made It seem like he did this to teach us something about hydration. But his real intention was to know who he was, apologize for some mistake in his life, and raise his value by telling us about him. The hydration lesson was the clickbait
Should’ve known when I saw his big belly
I learned about hydration?
@@Jay-ez5wq😂😂
@@Jay-ez5wqAlways go with your gut 😅
He just mixed like 5 things that don’t matter and don’t relate to his presentation
Every 25 years might be a little too often for this guy
Unfortunately, this is clearly not been checked with TEDx ppl before it went on air
The irony of the *entire* talk should not be lost on _anyone_ watching.
I’m a felon... *silence*
😂 They all reacted like the next thing he was going to say was, "...and this is a stick up!"
😂😂😂

Wtf was this ? I learned he’s a felon and obviously failed comedian . He went on about nothing and ended on a bad joke
yeah this guy is a clown...measuring color of urine is vodoo 🤦🏾 but let's use microwave spectrometry to do what our eyes can do
Thank you, didn’t watch.
11minutes of my life that I’ll never get back
Looks like he had 2 gallons of water before this show
😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
This was an 11 minute infomercial for a product that does not yet exist that included no helpful information about staying hydrated
I've never watched a TEDx talk failure until now
You have seen nothing.
there are some woke TEDx talks that are on this level if not worse.
What a waste of 11 minutes. Didn't learn a thing
Excellent Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Saffebbi Subconscious Smasher (Have a quick look on google can't remember the place now)? It is a smashing one off product for discovering how to protect your family during a crisis without the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my good mate called Gray at last got astronomical results with it.
Lmaoooooo
Your knowledge has been confirmed. Your time has not been wasted
😂😂😂
11 minute presentation and nothing learned. You know the presentation is bad when they only present one power point slide!
and a guy with those guts talking about health? Right.
Lmao
Not a thing
I need to know now, not in 3 years.
This was in 2017 so we should have seen something by now
@@TheDpandolfo86 estamos em 2023 agora, temos os resultados?

Lips ( that’s how you know ) if your lips are fully moist you are good . If they are dry you need hydration
So I have to have moist lips? Lol wtf?
That's too late of an indicator. It will tell you about hydration but never want to resort to that

Confucius says "Never take health advice from unhealthy people." Now if this guy gave a ted talk on how to make an excellent ice cream sundae or sweet potato pie, I'd be all over his advice...

So, it measures water? What about electrolyte levels? You can load up on clean water (even distilled water!) and do nothing for the electrolyte levels in your body. A water-logged athlete can still drop on the field because their body’s electrical systems just aren’t firing.
Well played
Most of us that eat good foods are constantly replenishing electrolytes. So if you know you are ingesting foods that have the electrolytes your body needs then a device telling you you are on the verge of dehydration. It would prompt you to increase your water intake.
It’s been 3 years! Done yet? 👀
Most people are dehydrated because the food and drinks they eat are requiring water to process them. it takes more than just drinking water to hydrate the body.
Living water hydrates 6xs more effectively than regular water.
I used to live with someone like this.
lmao
He looks extremely well hydrated
rofl
Worst Ted Talk ever.
The thumbnail made me feel like he can't be telling anybody about hydration😂😂
I'll never get those 10+ minutes back, should've known it would be bad when I saw that gut, this is on me...
Never getting that 10 minutes back lol
Thank you! A great way of presenting the topic.
He reminds me of the dude from office space who got all that money for getting in a car accident lol
Yup, still looking for that JUMP TO CONCLUSIONS board game at my local Walmart.
Well I'm 45 and have been dehydrated for the past 10 years! I always forget to hydrate and when I do, I live in the bathroom 24/7, which may be why are don't want water.🤣😂🤣
But it's not as funny when your heart palpitates at 1000 beats per minute.😔
Yeah lol it's causing your whole body to function less efficiently. Ultimately leading to decreased immune system, increased chance of illness disease and general early shut down of the system 😅 pretty funny
😮
Great Talk, well received.
This is 11 minute of my life I will never get back again.
I have a 250 ml glass at my house and I also have an 800 ml glass at my house. So , I wonder about this. What does 8 glasses of water every day means ?
half your body weight in ounces in water each day. if you weigh 160 lbs then 80 ounces of water.
@@cutesim99yup
@@cutesim99That's crazy
Ummm nurse here. We don’t give IV hydration blindly. Dr orders a CMP blood test to truly tell if you’re dehydrated. It’s completely accurate.
Hi is there not a difference between acute dehydration and the lingering effects of chronic hydration . seems to be big problem with most ! unlikely to loose weight in sports time unless world class . had great results from doing hydration challenge but its still a challenge to pack all the glasses in everyday
@@cleanerwatersolutions5699 I need you to rephrase that question. It's not very clear what your asking me? Sorry. Chronic Hydration? What does that mean? We should ideally be Chronically Hydrated :) Overly hydrated is not good as it can overwhelm our vascular system.
@@cornealdata3843 hydration is a constant thing since we are constantly losing water through urination, sweat, and even our exhalations. So you want to be hydrated constantly drinking sips of water throughout the day. In general, make sure you're definitely well hydrated an hour or two before your workout. With weights, you can drink water anytime during and its also good to take in some glycogen during to keep your glycogen levels full since you're depleting them with the weights. Glycose = carbs fyi.
@@ginoasci2876 sure science can advance with scientific studies but this is a salesman like you said….. I have little faith in his conflicting data
Uh, fire department worker here. Tests we use to check people for dehydration are plentiful: 1. Skin Turgor. 2. Orthostatic BP test. 3. General presentation (pale/ashen skin presentation usually indicates low blood volume-dehydration or problem with a pump/heart.
On a self diagosing level, u get lightheaded when uou stand up? Most likely due to dehydration (lack of blood volume to ones brain while going through a body position change).
I don't agree with this ted talker on IV issue. Or on the claim that we dont know how to track dehydration.

Dehydration is our planetary dis-order, probably main cause of flu spreading, and best indicators are mucus membranes lining lungs pharynx nasal mouth GI tract, these are first areas to hydrate/dry out. Dehydration is a killer, resulting in dry cracked lips getting flus often plus bad health overall ~~ strangely enough best way to hydrate is water retention enemas via absorption in distal colon and a life-saving technique used by high altitude rescue teams attempting to hydrate unconscious climbers using slow drip enemas ~quart of warm water bit of salt/sugar, patient can fully recover to consciousness in 15 min! Super Hydrate daily flush out nasal passages daily then live longer daily ~~

My diabetic grandpa died at 90 and he never drank water. He drank coffee, tea, diet soda. Wash rinse repeat. Never went to the hospital for congestive heart failure. :D "Water is alright in tea, for fish and things that swim in rivers"
There's water in all of those. You mean he never drank just water
Nice audience
Did it happen then??
As soon as he called the current methods voodoo I instantly thought ok what's he selling?
He didn't call them voodoo, he said that there are issues with the effectiveness of those measurement methods.
His device is supposed to give instantaneous feedback, that's superior to either of the conventional methods discussed.
Be it his device or someone else's an instantaneous measurement is a better option.
I can’t find his point.
Who would take advise from a guy with such bad body shape who does not even drink water? I can tell his liver is failing too!
So I basically learned there is noway to know if you are hydrated. Pssh!
They have one for alcohol !! so why isn’t this out yet it would be useful for our teenagers
I was tripped to the hospital for hi bloodsugar. They stuck me with a love needle to give me potassium. I was in there for 6 days. Before the vile of potassium was gone, they disconnected it from me. They kept checking my water line. Catholic said, she's gonna give me this drink by finishing the vile of potassium into me. I was like, ok. No problem. Only hurt when using the monitor find petrified vein. Suddenly, I got thirsty. I was drinking more rapid I guess. Cause, staff checked my water container again. So, Catholic came to say, she not gonna give me the vile of potassium cause I'm drinking water fine now. I guess she implied, water has potassium in it that I need.
Moody absolutely rejects it when I drink water when I’m not thirsty. It develops a horrible form of bloating and gas. If I were y’all I’d just listen to my body, eat when you need to eat, drink when you need to drink, shower when you need to clean.
you might have had very mild hyponatremia, which can happen because as you endeavor to drink a lot of water, you’re diluting the salt in your body.
try adding a tiny bit of salt into your water. it’ll be less of a shock to your cells. a food rule of thumb is to try to drink at least half your weight in ounces in water- every day. if you weigh 160, then 80 ounces of water.
hope this helps.
This guy looks dehydrated. And he going to teach us .
Truth lol - I spend some time regretting my part of building the 5g lte network and watch kids with devices in their faces constantly

Why does this guy get a ted talk?? Totally asleep.
What is this? Some kind of a joke?
Is he an ex stand up comedian?
I wouldn't take advice from anyone who looks unhealthy
Correlation does not equal causation. He is a tech genius and he is proposing a tech innovation. That's like saying I don't trust that heart surgeon on his knowledge of heart issues. I could understand if he was giving personal training advice. But even still there are bodybuilding coaches out there that have trained champions whom are over weight.
