It’s incredible to look back at some of these games that have surprisingly deep mechanics. I really appreciate that Sakurai calls attention to them; you can really tell he appreciates these early games.
Great to see officially subbed Arino, although at this point the English speaking world probably knows the show better as GCCX with how short lived the Retro Game Master branding was.
@@SobmicSSBB yeah, on some of the earlier seasons there were segments with Arino at trade show booths to shop the show around under that name. I'm not sure if those were before or after the DS game released in the us as "Retro Game Challenge"

I'm so grateful for you putting this up on the English language channel too, Sakurai-san 🥺 Retro Game Master/Game Center CX is one of my all time favorite shows and it's been so long since we've seen any kind of official English language release!
I love Gamecenter CX and wish we had official releases in English like this more often. And I have huge respect for Sakurai in his love for Arcade games.
This is why Sakurai is one of the greatest of all time. He respects and appreciates the history of the medium. All developers and producers should pay attention!
It is so validating to hear the word "Let's Play" used with reverence in 2023. In a world of streamers and other live forms of "content creation", I'm happy Arino is there for those of us who still keep this dying art afloat.
Agreed, and it's interesting to see the Japanese side of it. I recently stumbled on some Japanese Let's Plays on Nico Video and the style still felt similar. I know the western Let's Play scene evolved out of screenshot LPs on forums, I wonder how the format got started in Japan?
@@zaidlacksalastname4905 I don't 100% agree. I think the feeling of "just hanging out with a friend playing a video game" is timeless. The world of "hey chat, what does this do" and "thanks for the resub fartsniffer69" just doesn't hit the same way. I find myself still watch - and making - Let's Plays because I think that feeling is important.
This was amazing! I think just to see Sakurai be himself and have fun was the best part of all of this. I wasn't aware of GCCX prior to this video but after this crossover, I definitely will look into him more!
If you like retro games and a look into Japanese arcade and developer culture of the last 20 years, GGCX is an unparalleled gem. Not to mention Arino's infinite charisma, the charm of it all is unprecedented. The best way to watch are 24 hour dedicated twitch channels.
I'm so happy about this crossover since Sakurai can freely talk more about his passion for game development without just saying Nintendo stuff. He also gets to show off how good he is with playing as well. Also, it's so awesome that this literally like a Game Center CX special episode since even Producer Kan (the narrator/announcer presenting the episode) is there, and even the shouts and cheering (and making fun of Arino) of the production team on the background.
[On Space Invaders] I still think it's interesting that the CPU ended up becoming apart of the gameplay (if memory serves). Because technically, with all the sprites on-screen, it's actually experiencing slow-down. But because of how that works, it ended up becoming a gameplay feature.
What a pleasant surprise! Back when the first Super Mario Maker was released I remember my joy when Arino kacho was introduced as a special transformation alongside all the amiibo ones. He's funny and entertaining to watch.
I think Twitch should acquire a license to have an official GCCX 24/7 channel where people can watch the show, and hire people to translate the episodes. There's an unofficial channel currently, but it occasionally gets shut down until another one pops up.
Man what a nostalgia trip. Thanks for translating this episode for us English speakers, GCCX is a great show and more audiences should know about it. Chief Arino is the man!
I didn't think I'd enjoy watching gameplay of old games before clicking on this video, but this was actually a pretty nice watch! Excited to see more in the future
