      I only just found out 8-4 did the translation for this channel. They're responsible for a lot of major game localizations like Fire Emblem Awakening, Nier Automata, and even translating Undertale into Japanese. So I'm not surprised they're this good.

      Actually, I believe it's the same people - most of the staff from GCCX was hired to produce those Smash presentations for Nintendo. They must be in a good relationship, given how Yoiko used to do so much content with them.

      @@takeshi_oyama Yoiko still regularly do stuff with Nintendo, it's always posted on the Switch News section for JP accounts, I'd imagine it's on YT as well somewhere.

    Great to see officially subbed Arino, although at this point the English speaking world probably knows the show better as GCCX with how short lived the Retro Game Master branding was.

      There were only 14 officially released episodes of Retro Game Master. I agree, I wish they would just call it Game Center CX and embrace the fansubs.

      @@SobmicSSBB yeah, on some of the earlier seasons there were segments with Arino at trade show booths to shop the show around under that name. I'm not sure if those were before or after the DS game released in the us as "Retro Game Challenge"

      Same here, I was super confused why they were calling it "Retro Game Master", I've watched a bunch of subtitled english episodes and never heard it called that. GameCenter CX is way cooler and more recognizable of a name, it would make more sense to stick with that for these videos.

      It's so weird how the official English name is "Retro Game Master." Surely most fans know it by the Japanese name Game Center CX.

      A game and some episodes were released at one time under that branding in the US, but the whole thing didn't stick.

I did look it up under Game Center GX and actually found it, but without English subtitles to understand his content. I couldn't even find a subbed version of his videos.

    It’s incredible to look back at some of these games that have surprisingly deep mechanics. I really appreciate that Sakurai calls attention to them; you can really tell he appreciates these early games.

    It is so validating to hear the word "Let's Play" used with reverence in 2023. In a world of streamers and other live forms of "content creation", I'm happy Arino is there for those of us who still keep this dying art afloat.

      Agreed, and it's interesting to see the Japanese side of it. I recently stumbled on some Japanese Let's Plays on Nico Video and the style still felt similar. I know the western Let's Play scene evolved out of screenshot LPs on forums, I wonder how the format got started in Japan?

      @@zaidlacksalastname4905 I don't 100% agree. I think the feeling of "just hanging out with a friend playing a video game" is timeless. The world of "hey chat, what does this do" and "thanks for the resub fartsniffer69" just doesn't hit the same way. I find myself still watch - and making - Let's Plays because I think that feeling is important.

      Marvel don't do crossovers. They are all part of the same universe. If marvel and dc met, it would be a cross over. Mcu just tired to make a big deal over nothing. Read a comic.

    This was amazing! I think just to see Sakurai be himself and have fun was the best part of all of this.
    I wasn't aware of GCCX prior to this video but after this crossover, I definitely will look into him more!

      If you like retro games and a look into Japanese arcade and developer culture of the last 20 years, GGCX is an unparalleled gem. Not to mention Arino's infinite charisma, the charm of it all is unprecedented. The best way to watch are 24 hour dedicated twitch channels.

    GCCX is basically the grandfather of lets plays, and Retro Game Challenge for the DS is one of the most underrated games for the system!

    I'm so happy about this crossover since Sakurai can freely talk more about his passion for game development without just saying Nintendo stuff. He also gets to show off how good he is with playing as well.
    Also, it's so awesome that this literally like a Game Center CX special episode since even Producer Kan (the narrator/announcer presenting the episode) is there, and even the shouts and cheering (and making fun of Arino) of the production team on the background.

    What a pleasant surprise! Back when the first Super Mario Maker was released I remember my joy when Arino kacho was introduced as a special transformation alongside all the amiibo ones.

    I think Twitch should acquire a license to have an official GCCX 24/7 channel where people can watch the show, and hire people to translate the episodes. There's an unofficial channel currently, but it occasionally gets shut down until another one pops up.

    Yay! I want Arino-san to know I very much enjoyed his playthrough of Spelunker on the DVD Extras. I love/hate that game, like many, so it was very exciting to see him finally conquer it (well...maybe "conquer" is an exaggeration...perhaps I should have said "see him finally reach an end screen.").

    I still think it's interesting that the CPU ended up becoming apart of the gameplay (if memory serves). Because technically, with all the sprites on-screen, it's actually experiencing slow-down. But because of how that works, it ended up becoming a gameplay feature.

    Oh this is a good episode. Asteroids display on an arcade cabinet is so bright. Especially the bullets
