The section that begins at 8:45 is usually called "Backwards", and it also features in Caravan's repertoire, as part of their "A hunting we shall go" medley
Thanks! The medley was my idea, the songs are Mike Ratledge's. I'm no M.R. but I hope I got the feel of these songs. The distorted Lowrey sound was programmed by me on the Roland JD-800. Sorry for the video being out of sync with the audio, it was a UToob upload glitch. I had perfectly sync'd the direct audio line with the video, but it fell out of sync after upload. Also a big thanks for subscribing. I remember your Z1 videos very well, they are worth subscribing to, so I did!
I never bothered searching for Soft Machine sheet music or lead sheets, although if you do a deep enough search something should come up. Please don't take this as a note-for-note rendition, these are just my impressionistic interpretations of these SM tunes - essentially just from what was in my head, as I've listened to these albums since my late teens - which was about 40 years ago. So these songs are just a permanent part of my memory. And studying my hands won't be of much use, as the audio fell out of sync with the video, probably during upload.
Yes..is not very similar but VERY VERY similar. But Ratledge was one of the most creative composers and piano/organ players, and he was too underrated.
Well, it's not really chords in that section, it's more like counterpoint (one note played against another). But I suppose it's possible to hear colors in there that would point to a chord sequence. So note-for-note, the chords would look like this: Am, Am, Am, G....... F#, G... F#, E, E... G... F#, E... F#, F#dim Am6-9 (5x)..... F#dim (2x), Am6-9 (5x)..... F#dim (2x) Am6-9 (5x)..... F#dim (2x), Am6-9 (5x) Hope that helps.
Geez………. not bad!!!! Makes ya wonder why guys like Mike Ratledge and Dave Stewart moved away from such beauty. I guess ya have to pay the bills sooner or later….
Very impressive but I do have to say that a one-man performance really doesn't do the music justice. Don't get me wrong, I think your playing of it is amazing and the fact that you're performing this on your own shows amazing talent but it doesn't come close to the band performance. I'm going to guess that, based on the passion that you put into this, you might agree with me. That being said.... absolutely amazing. Props to you.
Ps. Soft Machine is my all-time favorite band. I have many favorite bands but Soft Machine is always at the top of the list and has been for very many years.
Well, I am currently in a Prog Tribute band in upstate New York - but we don't do any Soft Machine... mostly just the 'well known' British prog bands such as Genesis, King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant, etc. But even finding musicians around here that are willing to do even THAT is very difficult. I have to travel 300 miles round trip every month for rehearsals. These videos were done a few years ago before all that started up... but they did get me 'found', so it was well worth it.

Yes.

Appears to have computer arpeggiator helping him out in many places.
There is no arpeggiator. And no overdubs. This is all played live.
Great cover best regards! ;)
What chords do you play on Slightly all the Time (at 8:45)?
What are the chords on Slightly all the Time at 7:58?
