My director ask me just yesterday if I could blend the model driven and canvas apps. I’m so glad I found this video. One of the uses will be to display legacy system data in an app converting to the power platform. Many other uses cases. This is great!
Brilliant demo. I think my first use case will be when someone asks for a formula that cannot easily be made with calculated fields. Leading the user to a new page to allow entering some numbers and apply a powerfx formula might be convenient without delving into CRM plugins. Then again, the new "formula" datatype might arrive to model driven apps soon :)
There is a custom page section in my new full tutorial that might help Model Driven Power Apps Beginner Tutorial [Full Course] 2024 Edition ruclips.net/video/HrILchHvMUA/видео.html
Excellent lesson: I love it and I understood much more during you presentation than reading all Microsoft DOC. Hope you get a lot more subscribers: you deserve the 100.000 subscribers plate!
At around time 2:40 you spoke about a link to the limitations of the PAGE controls in comparison to what you can do on a CANVAS page controls .... hmmm I dont see the link. Could you add it ?
I've added the link to the description now, thanks. Here for your reference: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/model-driven-apps/model-app-page-issues
I believe you are the best Tutor in PowerApps by far, Lisa. Appreciate this video as it is very clear and easy to follow through. For this Custom Page, is there possibility to make use of the standard Model driven toolbar (those Save / Save & Close / Refresh buttons). Thanks. Indeed this is a very good tutorial video.
Hi Lisa, Just came across your videos and they are amazing and really helpful. thank you so much. 😍 Do you know how to restore/preserve the filters on the custom page when coming back from another page. in your example the Contacts form?
Hi Lisa, I'm trying to build a decision tree custom page and embedding it into a standard model driven form as a Canvas component. Where pressing buttons on the decision tree will select change choice values that will toggle the visibility of certain fields on the form. Might be an interesting tutorial.
Very understandable. Would it be possible to use custom pages also as modal dialogs (to get user input at beginning of some function/operation) or special visual components inside the forms?
As at june 2022 offline isn't *yet* supported - per documentation of known issues here -docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/model-driven-apps/model-app-page-issues
Hi Lisa Great Content - Can I create a filter in a custom page and then use that filter whenever the user, in the model driven app, displays a record (or records) so they only see the records they are supposed to. I cannot use security to achieve this as two people may want to see the same record and they both cannot be record owners. Thanks Nigel
No, you can’t do that with a model driven app, it would have to be a canvas app. The security model allows for team ownership, that might be an option.
You should be able to get lookup fields into your custom page, there is some good content out there on doing it, if you search for dataverse lookup columns in canvas apps, it's the same as that. This article is a good one that might help: d365demystified.com/2022/11/15/lookup-function-in-canvas-power-apps-power-fx-formula-example/
@@LisaCrosbie Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. I think you are a brilliant tutor. Thank you for all you do. It is much appreciated.
Thank you for the great video. If you take requests, "how to embed a Power BI report within a record form (with contextual filtering)" would be great. If not - no problem - Thank you for the great videos.
Great video thanks Lisa! But how to add a dropdown control in the custom page(canvas style) for Model-Driven except using Display/HTML text? There is no control option for dropdown under input/*
Hi Lisa, great video - thank you :) Do you know how I can see the custom page on Power Apps mobile? I see the page but it reloads forever when I try to open it. Do I have to change some settings?
Really a nice way to demonstrate the functionality of this product. Very impressed with your presentation and with the product itself. I am looking for something to allow me to make a master detail app inside of SharePoint (SP) online (modern). I have extensive experience with classic and the need for javascript to make anything user-friendly. Looking at this (PowerApps), it looks like they actually make it pretty easy and low code. I'm assuming that my "database" can be SharePoint lists, that I can use Lookup to restrict the values for a given attribute (as you can in SP). In specific I'm looking for the first page to be a list of records (with 4 of the most important attributes displaying for each record. Once you clicked on the record you wanted to view/edit, it would take you to another page, display that same record at the top (only the four fields that were common on each record on the previous page) and then have responsive boxes below that filter out the data to only include the ID that is displayed in the header. I might have one box that is more like a canvas that has 20 fields that pertain to the same list that can be updated. Below that I would have a list of documents that are associated to this ID, then another box of other information associated. I get that this could probably be created as a view page, but then I would like the ability for individuals to edit (if they have the correct SP access) any of the boxes of information. Ideally even drag a document to the document box (hoping that the required ID is filled in behind the scenes. What say you? Can this be done?
Hi Steve, I don't work with SharePoint, sorry, you might like to try posting your question in the community forum where there are plenty of experts who could give you an answer. But as a principle - anything you can do with a canvas app - connected to SharePoint in the way you describe, if that comes together - you could create as a custom page in a model driven app. The model driven app itself though is built on Dataverse as a data source (it can't be built on SharePoint).
Hi @Lisa, just wondering, I created a CANVAS App connected to dataverse and embedded it inside the Model Driven, does it share the license of the users who access it or is it different licensing?
If your users have a Power Apps Premium license (Power Apps Per User) then that will cover your model driven app and any canvas apps connected to Dataverse. If they only have a per app license then you'd need separate per app licences for each user for the model driven app and the canvas app. If you make a custom page (as shown in this video), that's different from an embedded canvas app. Custom pages are included in the model driven app license.
This is a good video, and the second one I have followed. But there is always some issue at the end that prevents me from successfully concluding the video. In this case, when I try to run the app it continues to ask me to sign in several times but never actually opens the app. I am assuming it is because my user id/password differs from my twitter credentials... but the lack of feedback from Microsoft products when there is a problem is always a struggle. The video itself was great and helpful, the product on the other hand... I am skeptical I will be as enthusiastic about it as you!
Nicely Explained. How to pass parameters from Model Driven App (say.. Account ID) to Custom page ? And the Custom page should accept the Account ID and then call an REST API using Custom Connector and bring back the results to Custom Page.
Hi you said there would be a link to documentation showing how to make the page different. I don’t see it am I missing something? Do you think you could reshare the link?
Hi Lisa, love your videos. Any chance you can do one on Power Pages pricing. I love what I see, especially that it can be external facing, but can’t figure out how the pricing will work.
Hi Lisa, I am a little bit late 🙂 I have created my custom page outside the solution (editing the Model-driven app) and added in a second step to the solution (Add existing -> App -> Page) . but when i import it as managed solution into another test-environment the custom page is not available (no errors).. any idea how to fix this? thanks
There are some known issues and limitations with Custom Pages, so you might want to check all the things on this page first, and if there is no resolution there I'd suggest posting on the Power Apps Community forum learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/model-driven-apps/model-app-page-issues
Sorry, I don't understand the question or scenario here? Are you trying to build app templates to sell? You can sell your own IP on Microsoft App Source but there is a process to go through to get approved and listed there.
