I drained the oil on my son`s 2002 Pan and it was supposed to have been serviced. Only 4 pints of oil came out instead of 6.5 pints minimum . Now I have to figure out how to get all those plastic bits off to find the filter . Gordon Bennett. Thanks for a helpful video . Respect.
Great video. A little suggestion though. The old oil drains better when you remove the filling cap before draining. Like with cars. I always remove the oil filling cap as well as lift the dipstick (if there is one) in order to get rid of back pressure and let free flow of air.
You are in a great position to get a doggy bike and still manage to sort out the issues. Some of us don't have the means or the knowledge to do so, that is why I am a bit apprehensive in getting another bike. Having said that, it is good to see a good bike get the good treatment it deserves. Good job.
The knowledge is available, watching RUclips videos or checking forums, i did start at an early age but even now i am still learning, most of it is basic maintenance
Thanks Seth, appreciate the info, not used Pure One before but will have a look, thats what takes the time is removing the plastics, but on this occasion the where already off as doing other jobs so not to bad
Over the 12 years I've had my 1100A I have found some aftermarket filters weep a little so while the new oil is circulating through I check the filter while the engine is running and tighten the filter a touch more if needed. I don't worry to much getting the level with the top mark when topping up and I pour until I have about I/2 a litre left in a 4 litre container. Run the motor for about 5 mins and check the filter as above, switch off and give it another 5-10 minutes for the oil to settle then top up to just below the top level. Changing oil/filter every 12,000km and at 217,000km I have yet to top between changes
Check the oil level again after the bike has been stood overnight. I'd be interested to see if its crept up above the high mark like it did on my Pan. I ended up draining about 100cc to bring it back down.
The place to check the coolant really isn't at the cap, but at the reservoir, right? What good does it do to check the radiator if you are empty at the plastic bottle? Both places should be looked at as one RUclipsr (Norman) noted that his draw line was clogged at the neck of the radiator and could not suck or relieve fluid due to pressure.
you checked the coolant level by opening the radiator cap, ok. But isn't there an expansion vessel where we can check the coolant level? Is it necessary to see both sites? Just like do in my cars, check the coolant level in the expansion vessel
Usually yes, but i had a damaged pipe from rad to expansion tank and it was also blocked up and the expansion tank was in a state, so all came out to be cleaned and replaced
curious to know why you didn't warm the engine before doing the oil change? thought that improves the efficiency of the oil change by ensuring more oil gets flushed through.
Thanks Kristopher, appreciate your comment, i did say at the start of the video that the bike had been warmed up as i was doing an oil change and also needed to check to coolant level
Thanks Inspector2u, Honda manuals mention 10w-30 AND 10w-40, as suitable oils, i use 10w-40, i have heard that 10w-40 oil was better when riding in a hot country and with a lot of climbing. Summer in the Alps for example - the thinner 10w-30 resulted in excessive engine pinging towards the top of the climbs, hope this helps
If I can suggest something... you're showing long footage of oil dripping, and so on, but you dont show or explain how the filter goes back to the bike, neither info of what kind of filter or oil you use...
Thanks Bikalakat, appreciate your comment, the oil and filter was clearly visible in the video, agreed i may not have mentioned it, unsure what happen to the filter replacement, it was filmed, editing error possibly as there is a section missing, apologies for that
Appreciate the videos man just brought an 1100 new to bikes so this will really get me started thank you !!
Good luck!

Thanks John, glad it was of help, the plastic removal takes a while, filter on the left hand side when sitting on the bike,, good luck

Absolutely loving your channel right now. I’m looking for an ST1100 and this is all very good watching for me. Thank you for making 👍

Cheers Colin, its definitely getting there, start planning some tours when its done
@@hilderbells Thanks, glad you enjoy it, yes got out and about, feels much better after all the issues with it were sorted
I am using a larger Pure One filter. Better filter than Hi Flo and more capacity. Can remove filter without removing Tupperware.
Thanks Seth, appreciate the info, not used Pure One before but will have a look, thats what takes the time is removing the plastics, but on this occasion the where already off as doing other jobs so not to bad

Thanks Alan, i appreciate your comment and the info , will keep this in mind when i do the next change
lucky it is a honda mate most others would have fallen to bits by the state that was in
yes, quite agree, running alot better now though
Good, clear demonstration. Thanks
Cheers Douglas, glad you enjoyed it
thank you for this very helpful video...... well done...
Thanks, Glad it was helpful!

Thanks Martin, It did creep up slightly, so drained a little
@hindicobra how would you drain it slightly without losing all or majority of the oil?
what did you check when you looked in the radiator? Isn´t the coolant-level checked with the markers on the overflow-container?
Thanks bro
Thanks. glad it helped

Thanks Bryan, yes usually, but as i had all the plastics off i could check both
Ooh that oil was black 😂 never understood why people don’t change the oil on a bike, such an easy job to do.
It was very bad, amazes me as well, nothing had been done on this bike, but its coming back slowly

Is the bike on the centerstand while your doing the oil change ?
It was, when i started, but took it off later on so i could get the levels right
Why you didn't remove filter when plug was out? That will allow all oil to flow out. Now you have old mixed with new.
Thanks Grzegorz, valid point, at the time it didn't cross my mind, was done correctly on the next change
Hay I worked on my Honda st cooling system and found the overflow pipe split
Thanks Jason, appreciate your comment, easy enough to replace.
👋 hey
Thank you for your video. How much engine oil did you use?
Thanks Nahan. glad you enjoyed the video, oil and filter change is 3.7 ltrs of oil
So i own a st1100 and is this on the big kickstand??
what is the recommended oil for hot country, my mechanic has 10/30w castrol.
