    A sheet of aluminium foil over the header pipes will keep the dirty oil off them when changing that filter, plus it can be tweaked to guide the flow in the right direction ;)

    Just changed oil and filter on my newly acquired st1100. Probably the most DIY friendly oil service ever. A commenter suggested using tinfoil on the pipes - what a pro tip! Thanks for sharing the video which made preparation time to next to nothing.

      @@Supermarx1978 The ST1100 was just built in a way to be bulletproof and reliable, yet easy to service. The aluminum foil trick was a great comment. Glad to be of service. 🫡

      Also, great get on your new STeed. She will be a blast for you, and get groceries, and eat highway distances, and get 45mpg, and and and. 😁

      Yeah! Tbh I was actually looking for a smaller bike to get to/from work mostly.. but just happened to get the opportunity to try this one. For the money, it’s incredible. A friend calls it a prostate-moped and yes, it may look like an old man’s bike. But looks have grown on me and it really can do everything. Astonishing mpg, Aston tech for its age (abs,cbs, tcs). The fairing and after market screen makes for a comfy ride. Only downsides I can think of - it’s quite a pig to maneuver around on anything but a flat surface before taking off.

      @@Supermarx1978 Yes, heavy, but it's impressive how once you are over seven miles an hour, those hundreds of pounds of weight just disappear. 🤓
      I've ran mine on the Tail of the Dragon a few times, two-up is a breeze, not the most nimble jet, but it absolutely spins up like a turbine when you twist that throttle. She will serve you well. 👍 You made a practical choice.
      No, I'm not biased, YOU'RE BIASED. 😅

    Its very satisfying doing your own maintenance. I'm self taught from the age of 13 and I'm 62. hate to think how much I must have saved over all those years.

      I've learned from my father and RUclips how to do, and save on, a great many things. I like to add to the community of DIYers. Also...sadly...anymore...there is a not-small number of people who only have RUclips as the option, as the father is absent.
      Plus most things, even with cars, are crazy simple. More time consuming than anything, but turns out to be much faster and less headache than planning to drop it off at a stealership and having THEM mess it up. 😅

    Adding Seafoam to the oil is not recommended by experts, only the marketing department at Seafoam .

    Just got a 2001 of these, great video. You don't use a torque wrench on the filter at all?

    • @OutsideTheTargetDemographic
      @OutsideTheTargetDemographic  4 месяца назад

      I don't, no. I read the rating was "nice and snug", usually oil filters should have BARELY ANY torque on THEM, as they are made of very thin, flimsy metal. I usually get it snug, and then do a 1/8th rotation more. No tools. The rubber O ring will act as a mechanical spring and hold the filter in place with tension.
