Just an update based on purchasing one in Jan 23 for Mac from B&H Photo. Cost was $395, the cost of the Studio software +$100, still a great deal for such a useful well made piece of gear. There wasn’t a SD card with the program, just an activation card with a code; a dongle isn’t need for the Mac. I downloaded the Studio edition v. 18 installer from the Black Magic support page (not the purchase page) and it installed over the free version I had been using. When opened it prompted for the activation code and I was good to go. The Studio Editor came with a completely flat 0% battery but charged to 100% in a few hours via the USB C tether to my MacMini. I was perplexed by the Studio Editor dropping the Bluetooth connection overnight when the computer was put in sleep move and had been waking it up by reconnecting via USB C to re-establish the connection. So the tip about hitting the keys to wake-up was helpful.
Thanks for stopping by! I've been using this little keyboard for awhile now and use it on ever edit. It's certainly growing on me. The battery lasts a good week+ for my style of usage, so very happy about that. Cheers!
Having trouble with my DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor keyboard. It's not responding during editing sessions despite being fully charged and recognized by my computer. Indicator lights aren't working either. Tried on different computers and reinstalled the software, but no luck. Any suggestions?
Hey Samuel - you are welcome, very happy it helped. I should really do an update now that I've had this keyboard for awhile. I use it on every edit! The only negative I've had is dealing with bad bluetooth connections, but not sure it's just my system or the device. Overall I really like the jog wheel the most.
Thanks for sharing. Also, thank you for answering up front the main question that I had. I was wondering if the USB key was a one time install (and remove), or if it had to remain plugged in only when the DR software was being used. I appreciate you being so thorough. Nice video.
Hey there! Thanks for watching. The USB key is thankfully just that, a key that can be moved from computer to computer as you need it. I use both the Mac and Windows versions.
Another question if possible, you explained that it arrived on a dongle and software 16, and you immediately upgraded to 17, will it give you 18 as well?? Thanks, and sorry for bothering.
According to their software purchase agreement at the time, you get unlimited free upgrades after paying for Studio. Personally I find it to be an awesome product and because it has such a public following with the free version, there are tons of how-to videos on YT. I hope that helps.
Greetings! I just did this, but was prompted by DR to update the firmware when the SE was hardwired to my PC. However there is a dedicated utility with your install. Mine was found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Control Panels\Setup Utility Hopefully this helps!
Thanks for the video, but you forgot the most important thing. Opening the box. how it comes I thought it came shrink wrapped. But according to your video. It comes open. So anyone on the road could use your number. without you even knowing.
Hey there! Thanks for watching. If you mean the software box, it was not shrink wrapped when it arrived but had the clear circle stickers along the flaps to prevent the box from being opened. However, the box comes with a USB dongle that allows you to use the software; rather than a serial number. I hope that helps, sorry for the confusion.

The dongle is in the box, yes. I’m really enjoying this little keyboard.
Do you know how to update the speed editor?
