It's Alan Doyle from the Canadian Band Great Big Sea. Him and Russell Crowe are good friends, hence his part in the film. His band has plenty of folk drinking songs similar to this.

Alan Doyle of the grand Celtic band Great Big Sea - is the actor/singer in question
He had to change his name in the movie to Alan o'dayle cause he didn't want to use his real name.
This scene made me love this movie. GBS is one of my favorite bands, but I didn't recognize Doyle all medievaled up. Then I heard this bit, and I was like, MFER I KNOW THAT VOICE.

I have been looking for this for years!!! Every since I saw the movie I have wanted to hear this song in it's entirety but never could find it. Obviously, it's not available on the soundtrack and the only videos of it are the actual scene from the movie and it's almost useless when you're trying to figure out all the words to it. RUclips didn't have it for a long time but finally they do and I'm glad. Thank you "The Tower" Fantasy Music, you just ended a decade long search for me lol...

What's the actual name of the theme used in this song - I've heard this theme many times in some other medieval movies and video games with taverns, but I can't seem to find it when searching with the name "Cup of Mead" : /
Cup of Mead is specifically just the song name. I wouldn't know of any such themes, but the melody was composed because the actor in the movie is a singer and also happens to play the medieval lute, which is the main instrument you hear here.
