I watched this again tonight , and its when he screams when realizing what he has just done that sends the cold shivers through me ... I even commented about the film and its ending on a live chat I go on.

The perfect music for "their escape." They were facing the ultimate dilemma: Either stay... and die... or try to escape... and die. The classic example ofchoosing the lesser of two evils. Were they right in choosing to run? Were they wrong? There is no correct answer. There is only... choice. And consequences produced from choice. Timing got them in their predicament... Fate will decide what is to become of them. Awesome movie with a very unexpected and tragic ending. Why? Because EVERYBODY who has watched The Mist becomes the father in that last scene... Darabont knew this. 😊👍
The ending was a sucker punch to the gut.
In the book, they lived but kept running from the mist.
The movie took a different path at the end . Stephen King was pissed cuz he felt the movie had a better ending.

the story of how the mist got there is quite interesting…it was a failed science project at a military base that opened a portal or wormhole of some kind to a completely random planet that could’ve been anywhere in the universe…but they couldn’t maintain it for some time and during that time thousands of creatures that lived on the planet come through the portal onto earth in a giant cloud of mist…scary to think what could’ve came though that portal that they or us the audience don’t even know of…at the end of the film you can see in the background much bigger versions of those spiders that are the size of large SUV’s burning dead from the military action and its only a extra glimpse of the crazy things that could be and were in the mist

As sad and haunting the ending is, it's also very beautiful in a way. It shows the father's genuine love for his family. He'd rather them all die together rather than suffer painfully at the hands of the creatures. He didn't want them to have the same fate as the black man in the pharmacy, or the one girl who got stung by a scorpion fly. But like every other comment says, it shows to not give up too early, which was the father's mistake.

The ending is amazing. The best ending to a horror film ever. Its a great life lesson, as it shows what happens when you give up hope too soon. If he kept on trying to survive just a short couple minutes longer, him and the people with him would have been saved.

I saw the movie recently and it's really good, mainly the atmosphere, the storyline and the monsters. But the woman was killed really bothering me and the one who sent the soldier to death :(

A very lovecraftian theme. Interacting with beings far above our own comprehension and don't give any care to us at all.
That was the first scene I saw in this movie, and it made me interested. I was disappointed it wasn't a Lovecraft story. The "Tentacles in the Garage" scene was almost humorous and nearly ruined the experience. I even called the guy getting sucker-punched.

This will be my favorite movie always. The story 10/10, the acting 10/10, the cast 10/10. I mean you've got half the walking dead cast, Thomas Jane, Sam Witwer, and Holt from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, greatest casting of a movie ever

The message of the movie is actually quite depending on the interpreter and that is great.
