      +Misypo Look up Magnus Carlsen, I believe he played 10 players at once without looking at a chess board as I believe, it was not clear if it was a blank chess board he was looking at or a blank wall, it appeared the be a blank wall.

      +Wipez The most impressive massive blindfold game was somewhere back in the 1800s where someone played 52 games simultaniously blindfolded... back in a time when people thought this could literally get your brain to explode

    Actually I only realized afterwards that the queen is hanging at 8:25 forward. By the way, Hutch, in the opening after 6.h4 the main move is h6 instead of f6.

    This is insanely impressive! I can't even imagine having the memory required to remember where my pieces are, let alone my opponents. Even if I could do both, I doubt I'd be able to hold all those pieces in my head and still have enough spare brain power to outwit my opponent.
    What's scarier though is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. After all Carlsen also did this, except he did it in person, versus 10 people at once, with his back turned away from the boards. The fact he was able to do that, and still win all the games, is terrifying.

    • @patstaysuckafreeboss8006

    • @crackuhsnackuh

    • @hicow6075

      Playing looking at a blank board is 100 times easier than playing true blindfold. The hard part is visualizing the board and the space between the pieces.

    I'm only about ~1500 FIDE (converted from ECF) at standard time control and only about 1200 FIDE at rapid and blitz, but blindfolded chess isn't crazy hard (obviously, I wouldn't be able to do what GM Huschenbeth did in this video), I think it just comes with practicing lots of tactics puzzles and brute force calculation, because it's all visualising stuff which hasn't happened yet. Knowing opening theory makes it easier too.
    You know, playing blindfolded actually makes me make fewer blunders because I'm MORE scared of making mistakes due to the handicap. You end up thinking more, because you have less.

  • @marcusmiguel1850
    @marcusmiguel1850 7 лет назад

    It definitely is possible to play blindfold, Hutch. You will be able to as well pretty soon! I mean, I'm 1400 on chess.com and 1283 USCF and I can play blindfold. Not blitz, and I screw up sometimes, but for only playing a year, I'm surprise I even got passed move 10, haha.

    There's a video of Magnus Carlsen on 60 minutes where he plays 10 people blindfolded at once. They cut out a lot of the meat, but it's an impressive display. There's also another one where he plays 3 skilled guys blindfolded, and that video shows all the moves. I bet you'd highly enjoy it.
    Keep up the solid work.

    Used to play chess and this one kid in the chess club in elementary/middle school was very good. We did this thing where on the whiteboard we put up a chessboard and he sat at the front of the classroom facing outwards (so he couldn't see the chessboard) and the entire class took turns making moves against him without him being able to see the board. The way he moved was saying things like knight g6 to f4. He was an incredibly talented player.

      @skylerdrabing4323 7 лет назад

      that's because you have to recognize at the incredibly high level where youre capable of memorizing an entire board and making good moves, it benefits you more to, at the critical moment when one move decides the next direction, have an extra minute to think of all these other piece's potential moves. if you get rushed you just have to pick the best move you can see at the time, and if you remember the pieces the blindfold is not as relevent

    Black blundered. At the 6:07 mark, Black should have played exd4. This is because the C pawn is pinned due to the Queen on c5. If Rxd4 then simply Rxe1+! Winning the rook and possibly the endgame. Or if exd4, Rxe8, Rxe8, Qxe8+ Kc7, ... I think white is still winning do to the material advantage but maybe there's something tricky with dxc3...bxc3, Qxc3+, Kb1, Qe4+?!

    • @hutch

      Chess without a clock is non existent in any form of rated play. Otherwise it I reached an unwinable position, I could theoretically sit there forever without moving without ever technically losing. Time pressure is an inevitability in chess, I'd argue it makes it more competitive.

    • @davidl.4129
      @davidl.4129 8 лет назад

      I'm not much of a chess person, too slow for me, but when you put it in terms like that, it seems to make more sense. Yet, breaking it down to theory or another form, technicalities, makes it seem like anything can happen in chess and be abiding the rules. Removing the clock would make it take much longer and I wouldn't doubt that both opponents would take their time to secure a victory. But, having the clock makes both people think way too quickly and at times make mistakes. I've heard you say a lot, "I didn't mean to do that..." and I believe it could be avoided with the removal of the timer. But, I concede. Even with the clock, it is still fun and entertaining to watch. I'd like to see a game played on the Grandmaster's terms for a change and see how it'll play out.

    this is arguably not fully blindfolded since he knows what pieces are gone since he could try to put a piece down and the game would reject his play if the spot isn't open, so he'd know what he has left by attempting to move pieces all over the place and from that he can deduce what your play is and knows how to beat you, might as well not be blindfolded at that point....

      ***** Nobody called it magic, but saying he might as well not even be blindfolded seems like you might be down playing the skill required to accomplish something like this. Check out the piece on this guy by 60 minutes where he plays 10 players "blindfolded" simultaneously. Even without the ability to make non plays by forgetting where a piece is, being competitive playing this way is still pretty mind blowing.
