The only reason that they had points deducted was because he flipped her over his head at the end which was against the rules. The performance however, was a gold medal one.
This program is a masterpiece. Every move is so carefully choreographed and perfectly done! I come back to watch it when I need a smile and a pick me up.
This was a disgrace. They were so good, we will NEVER see their like again. The rest of the contestants might as well have stayed home ANYTIME these two skated. This is very rare that any skaters stand alone like this. In every Olympics there's a sameness about all of them and their programs. Not so EVER with T&D. In a class by themselves. Forever.
I love them and I still think they are the best ever, even over Virtue & Moir, but I was glad they didn't win since they were reinstated and I never accepted the reinstated pros. I wish I had been on the pairs panel since I would have made sure Gordeeva & Grinkov didn't win and Miskutienok & Dmitriev, another reinstated team, didn't even win silver. I wish I were on the mens panel to make sure Boitano and Petrenko had no shot even if they hadn't made their mistakes. I was so made to see Gordeeva & Grinkov win since they were reinstated. I can only hope those judges watch this performance years on and hang their heads in complete shame! There will never be another pair of their equal!
I was glad they didn't win gold since they were reinstated. I was super pissed Gordeeva & Grinkov won gold and they went 1-2 in pairs for the same reason. I wanted all the reinstated pros to lose. If I were a judge I would have made sure they lost in pairs too, just like the other 3 events. It was great to see reinstated pros not even medal in 2 of the 4 events.
@@bassethound1 I would against any reinstated pros. I don't just mean Torvill & Dean but Gordeeva & Grinkov, Petrenko, Witt (although Witt never stood a chance anyway). Down the reinstated pros. If I were a judge Gordeeva & Grinkov never get their gold medal anymore, I guarantee it.
@@bassethound1 I always strongly disagreed with the reinstated pros. They never should have been allowed back in the first place. And Boitano is a giant hypocrite since it was him who pushed for it, then at an event 8 years later where the younger amateurs were outjumping him whined "pros and amateurs should always be 2 seperate entities", LOL what a hypocrite.

The epitome of graceful, beautiful, ice DANCING. The couple that won gold that year were ungainly and crass by comparison. They danced like gym teachers. T&D danced like actual dancers.
littleblackpistol They lost because it was rigged. Even now even though it’s a little harder to rig Russians get higher points than they might deserve because people bye into what is worse choreography and far inferior foot work. They are usually over dramatic at best. Either that or they they no connection to the music or sometimes even their partner. Its like skating by numbers with stereotypical costumes, bearing and music and yet they get praised to no end. That said once in a blue moon there is a Russian skater/ team that is refreshing.
Unfortunately they had all the ammo they needed due to that illegal lift right at the end. What I never understood though to this day.....WHY WERE THEY NOT INFORMEDCTGEY HAD AN ILLEGAL MOVE IN THEIR PROGRAMME??? They would have had to perform the programme several times over the season at World or European championships to qualify for the Olympics....why were they not penalised then?? Also ice-skating judges give feedback and suggestions throughout the season of what is and isint allowed or is borderline, what's working and what's not. They attend practice sessions too, and provide feedback to the skaters. Why was that not done in this case?? It was something that certain judges frowned upon deeming moves like that unnecessary. Still, cannot take away the fact that they were/are, a a phenomenal ice dancing partnership.
It *was* that move that caused the judges to score them down; there was a big controversy about it. They claimed it violated ice dancing rules about lifting over the head, although it always seemed clear to me (as Torvill & Dean asserted) that Torvill was the one who was propelling herself over Dean's head rather than Dean lifting her over his head.
