When I was a F2P, I had to delete a bunch of items and hats including those special hats and items like the Horseless Headless Horsemann’s Head, TF Birthday Noise Maker and the infamous Seal Mask that I can’t get back (unless I try and ask Steam Support to get those back). The Backpack Expander did help but I feel like I should’ve been able have much more backpack slots than what I was given. I think the simplest solution is to increase the backpack size from 50 slots to 150 slots for Free To Players (half from what P2P Players have with their 300 slots) so you can get every single unique weapon for the over 100 weapons there are in the game plus extra space for hats, cosmetics and other bits and bobs that will give you a better overall experience in TF2.
The simplest, but not the right reason. It wouldn't solve the problem of F2P eventually having to sell weapons for item space if they wanted to keep cosmetic, and you go any higher and there's almost no reason to become a premium member. 50 slots is totally fine so long as it's all extraneous.
i remember when i was a f2p and the game gave me the backpack expander, i remember for some reason instead to give me just 2 more pages, it gave me 7 or 8
When I was F2P I needed space for weapons so I had to delete my gibus and pyrovision. Backback extenders are nice but I can never get those items back. Even after deleting some stuff I still had a full backpack, so when I wanted to play with an item I didn't have I would have to steal it off the ground every time I respawn. After getting premium I really regret deleting some of my items. I really wish f2p players would at least start with enough slots to hold all the weapons, I don't mind no reskin space but all the weapons is a must.
TF2 needs an overhauled progression and people should start with a large enough backpack for all Items and should be able to actually trade while F2P, and heck they should be able to earn cosmetics
Congratulations for watching the part where I expressly pointed out that backpack expanders do not solve the problem, in fact they are just a band-aid treatment. No matter WHEN a player joins, they should be on an even playing field. Forcing people to join during the holidays means people who join the remaining 11 months of the year are out of luck. Argument continues to be open. p.s. it's also not mentioned to a new player anywhere that during the holidays they would get a bp expander.
recently i had a friend of mine start playing tf2 so i just wanted to help em out by giving them some extra items for them to play their "mains" in a more varied way, even just the weapons for like 2 to 3 classes filled his inventory
I think they should increase the number of backpack slots for f2p, because this number was defined in 2011 when there was way less weapons and cosmetics. Edit: forget what I said there was 94 non-stock weapons when the game became f2p, they should have set the backpack too 100 at that time, but they still can increase it
Shane - Oh you can get it back with steam support as long as you didn’t use it in crafting! Look it up on RUclips for a full tutorial. They will give it back if you accidentally deleted it. Unfortunately for me, I used it in crafting so no Gibbs for me. :(
Yup! I already mentioned that in the vid! It is useful, but it doesn't solve the problem the remaining 11 months out of the year. Band-aid, not a solution.
@@CosmicAfro Sorry, i commented before watching the whole video (pretty good one tho) and you have some very good points, you gained a like and a suscriber
i think its an outdated system, and adding an arsenal or more inventory space for f2p's is a great idea and i think its far more helpful than harmful in producing money for tf2 then again.... i spent like 40dollars on buying all the weapons when i was free to play so who knows how sinister valve is feeling about it all
My only regret after 1000+ hours in tf2 was deleting hats so i could get new weapons when i was new in the game... i wish i could get them back... like the parasite from alien swarm or the knight helmet from spiral knights.
It would, but 100 slots still wouldn't alleviate that they couldn't hold all weapons since we have over 100, and that also means halloween cosmetics and x-mas gifts would still take place of weapons which they never should.
I joined TF2 in November of 2017, when the Smissmas Gift came I already had my backpack full so I had to load 5€ on my Steam wallet to buy a 0,75 cents weapon and then wait like a month to be fully able to trade
Not really cause my first year of f2p tf2(back in 2012) i never had a problem with the inventory, before i get by first backpack expander. But it doesn't mean i didn't lose some one time only item back then. How i dealt with it. Crate: Originally i thought i can open them without key and when i realized that i need key to open them. I deleted it from my inventory without a second thought, cause back then i was like "if i can't open them they useless to me" kind of ordeal. Weapon: Thank to the game having a crafting and thank to how terrible i was with projectiles on soldier and demo, so i didn't have much of a problem clearing out the slot of new item cause due to i can't play at the 2 (and 3 if count the medic) i more then happily craft the drop that i don't need or like related to them. Also hilariously i also tried to craft a hat with refine back then withour knowing you need to be premium for that. Cause j thought even with f2p account you can still at least have a crafted hat after a long time of playing it was my original goal when playing tf2 back then. Cosmetic: Doesn't have much of a problem with it either cause i keep most of them and really only delete the Halloween restricted cause they look bad and taking spaces. Rip seal mask.
it seems like a good idea on the surface, but keep in mind that inflation in tf2 is already extremely terrible due to the free item drop. if this idea really become reality, the tf2 economic will most likely crash over night, cuz thousands of weapons that's being use will just turn into currency.
Let's start at 100,000 weapons being crafted. That adds 5,555 ref or 138 keys to the economy. That's hardly an economic crash. Hell, Marketplace.tf has 12,000 keys available for purchase, the lowest starting at 1.75, highest at 2.38, except for 2 meme keys of 2.78 and one at... $100. Even that one confuses me. We'll use that as a reference point. There's a lot of other factors in there considering for metal: -You wouldn't want to craft stranges, which likely have replaced your unique copy by this point if you have one. -You wouldn't want to craft killstreaks, which also replaced your unique copy of the weapon (for basic killstreaks, literally replaces it). -Even if a player had all ~150 weapons to craft, it'd be 8.33 refined, and players who don't trade or care might just craft 2 hats instead. The amount of traders/ people who can versus those who don't trade is not nearly as large as people make it out to be. And escrow still prevents a fair selection of players trading immediately. -With each scrap requiring 2 same-class items, even under perfect scenarios you'd end up with weapons you cannot craft because you lack another weapon to craft it with, shaving off a few scrap per instance. In an economy with already ~5 million refined in existence, another 5k, 10k, heck even 100k refined (needing 1.8 million weapons) would be next to nothing. Yes, a brief increase in refined flowing around would happen admittedly. But it wouldn't last longer than a week. And granted, even if it did, Refined is already priced at 3 cents. It cannot go lower. But I do recognize our economy has its fair share of problems and I've already written out a potential solution for such things. Just a matter of making a vid. I hope this alleviates some of your concerns about market crashing. Our market is already crashed, and THAT is something we could easily fix.

For comp, you have to meet the requirements or to have bought a comp pass. The requirements are getting a certain level, having a phone linked up to steam and something else which I’ve forgotten so you’re not able play everything in the game.
That's great to hear! But one player's backpack doesn't reflect an entire population of players, unfortunately. I know it's doable, but within 1k hours you could have easily been able to hold all the weapons in some shape or form.
F2P's are also forced to craft weapons and stick to the loadouts they are able to construct from the weapons they have. So this actually has a heavy impact on thrir playstyle flexibility and overall variety of the gameplay. The only change Valve should make is to expand the f2p backpack space. Not very much though, since every new year you get a backpack expander, as you said. Actually, the backpack expander can be bought in the store, so i think that it can perhaps be an additional reason for a F2P to go P2P.
But hold up. If they gained a stock variant of every new weapon they've found from item drops or achievements, it means that even if they craft a weapon they wouldn't lose out on access to it. This has no immediate impact on any loadouts. In fact, them crafting the unique item into a new weapon they've never used before would just have no drawbacks. Example scenario: F2P wants the Fan o' War, one of the lowest crafting costs in the game. He happens to have 1 piece of scrap and the mad milk. Under my idea, he would have the mad milk permanently unlocked with a stock variant because he found it in the game. neat. He now crafts the milk and the scrap into a fan o war. Now he has stock milk and a unique fan o war. And if he ever crafted the Fan o war, wouldn't matter, he owned a fan o war which means he now has a stock variant of that too.
@@CosmicAfro So you think that alternative weapons should be unlocked and have a rarity of common as well, so you would always have an opportunity to use it even while not posessing the unique variant of the weapon? F2p meets all the requirements you set. Though I understand where you come from, it's kinda werid the list. They need more slots space and yes i agree with your videos.
Yup. I pointed out very early on that we have everything a F2P could ever need except for having the room to carry all of the weapons. Slot space isn't the issue. 50 is fine so long as it's only for extraneous items. Weapons should not be a part of the mix. 50 used to be fine when the economy was first released, but is no longer the case.
Nah, 50 is fine so long as it's only for extraneous items. TF2 is a competitive game where you can argue that stock works in all situations (it usually does), but strictly having an advantage over F2P because you can hold all weapons isn't okay in a game about having different loadouts for different situations or preference.
8:08 "i hope that tf2 team considers this idea" No they wont. Unless this video gets like 1 millions views (it wont), and even then very unlikely. Were you born yesterday? Tf2 team and Valve do not listen, talk back or communicate with community. If tf2 team even exist at this point at time. For all we know it could just Jill working on it from janitors closet.
Community ideas need to start from somewhere, non? I'm well aware this vid won't reach immense numbers, but spreading ideas around is far more important.
I had to delete my gibus, pyrovision and that mercenary thing coz i had no space for weapons. Halloween and items from other games made things more difficult for me. Thank god smissmass exists. I still have my black rose thankfuly but i had deleted my halloween metal thing and i couldn't craft that unusual horseless headless horseman eyelander reskin. Steam support helped though. ANYWAYS, your suggestions complicate things. How about we just, give them more space.........Make it so the default space is like 5 backpacks, isn't this enough? Change all the default options while you're at it. Auto reload, fast weapon swap. Viewmodel fov 90, minimized viewmodels, vsync off, (as medic) no holding down mouse 1 for healing with medigun and sound when teamates are injured.
What about Australium, Festive and Skinned weapons ? That would ruin their price, because everybody would pick them from the ground and have it in the stock version. And also I tf2 play with around 50 weapons, because I found the other bad or too situacional - Ex. Heavy's good unlocks - Tomislav, GRU, Fist Of Steel, Banana and Sandwich
valve does not know if a f2p will even fill those before become p2p and they do not expect tbem to get alot of hats or free stuff without using the use of community servers with !givemeall
It's not expected, no. I'm not fighting for the "what if" scenarios though. It still stands that F2P cannot reasonably hold all of the weapons, and giving them more BP space doesn't bode well for premium incentive. This meets a strong middle ground.
I asked steamsupport like 5 times and they replied and recovered me items that i deleted and also cmon man just buy a backpack expander, it s like the one time payment you ll need to do that you will get your money back eventually. And for premium buy a 0.15 cents weapon.
For many, it's not a question of how much it costs, it's that they do not have ready access or don't wish to spend money on TF2. Regardless of reason, you should be able to access all of TF2's base content (maps, weapons, and game modes) without having to pay a cent.
@@CosmicAfro yea but they have access to 95% of the maps so the only one out is MvM but seems fair cause you get rewards after each tour. But still you can play them all in bootcamp so they can play 100% of maps and gamemodes. Tf2 was a fully priced game so paying just 90 cents is not a biggie. if you have that many items to fill up the entire backpack, you should consider buying a backpack expander cause you want to expand your playstyle even more(like you pay in other games for bonus characthers or grind for them like years in league of legends), and they are not missing out cause they dont desperately need that many weapons to beggin with. Despite the ubersaw and the sandwich, the stock is 90% better in every situation and it s good for them to practice with it. If a game like tf2 had a fee of a backpackexpander is the best steal you ever gonna get.

free to play play the full game without paying a single cent, of course there will be a cost to this and this cost is a limited backpack. Honestly considering all the things they get access WITHOUT PAYING ANYTHING, i think complaining about the backpack size is just not fair. Stock weapons are the best in most situations and they still get more extenders at christmas. Want more slots ? Just play by the rules and reward the devs for their works by going prenium. Stop thinking you can get every side of the coin without requirements.
Hm, I guess weapons that are rented from contracts or rented from the Mann Co store would not be giving you the stock variant.
That's actually a good point! I completely overlooked rentals didn't I? Yes, they should not do so.

-You wouldn't want to craft stranges, which likely have replaced your unique copy by this point if you have one.
Our market is already crashed, and THAT is something we could easily fix."
I deleted a lot of hat for the weapones so i still want free premium so i craft the damn headless horse man axe
I wish I could give away some of those backpack expanders we get for Smissmas.
Glad to see your still posting man keep it up.
Just give f2p more backpack pages to hold all of the weapons and other stuff like 4 pages or something
Nah, 50 is fine so long as it's only for extraneous items. TF2 is a competitive game where you can argue that stock works in all situations (it usually does), but strictly having an advantage over F2P because you can hold all weapons isn't okay in a game about having different loadouts for different situations or preference.
8:08 "i hope that tf2 team considers this idea"
No they wont.
He lives herzzer :)
I'm afraid you've misunderstood. Not touch a weapon like in game, I meant from item drops. I apologize if that was unclear.
@@CosmicAfro Oh, ok then it makes sense
I want more lammas
valve does not know if a f2p will even fill those before become p2p and they do not expect tbem to get alot of hats or free stuff without using the use of community servers with !givemeall
It's not expected, no. I'm not fighting for the "what if" scenarios though. It still stands that F2P cannot reasonably hold all of the weapons, and giving them more BP space doesn't bode well for premium incentive. This meets a strong middle ground.
I'm still in the closed down discord server haha
Hey Afro, nice to see you back. Say hello on scrap.tf as well, you were mentioned just today.
Best to you!
I am still a f2p
And been for 3 years
This random person who i got friendly with and called her auntie just gave me premium box for no reason
Most people rejected His message.
Greedy Pants - "Shut Up!"
They hated Cosmic because he told them the truth
Good points, good bits, able to keep me interested after all this time
Welcome back good sir!
free to play play the full game without paying a single cent, of course there will be a cost to this and this cost is a limited backpack.
Epic
I love this
