A woman who beat cancer and was given the chance at motherhood thanks to the help of a surrogate has shared the beautiful moment her son reunited with the woman who carried him. Sarrah Strimel Bentley found a walnut-shaped lump under one of her armpits in August 2020, which led to her being diagnosed with early breast cancer. The diagnosis shocked Sarrah, 42, a former Broadway performer, and led to her starting treatment for the high-risk disease. During this time, Sarrah and her husband, James, discussed the possibility of starting a family. With the advice of her care team, the 42-year-old underwent two rounds of in vitro fertilization. The treatment resulted in a single embryo, so Sarrah and James decided to pursue surrogacy. Working with an agency, the couple matched with a woman named Whitney, who opted to become their child's surrogate. Sarrah, who dubbed Whitney her "angel," spent time with Whitney before welcoming her son, Chance, into the world in December 2023. After the birth, Whitney returned home to Richmond, Virginia, while Sarrah and James began raising Chance in their Brooklyn, New York, home. The families stayed in touch, and in the summer of 2024, Sarrah decided to travel to Virginia so that Chance could be dedicated at Whitney's church, alongside the baptism of Whitney's own two children. On June 1, at Buzz and Ned's BBQ, Whitney was reunited with Chance, who she has lovingly called her "womb mate." The emotional moment was captured on video, and when Whitney's own children asked if Chance was their brother, both moms gave an affirmative "Yes."

@@totukimou I’d like to have more money, too, but I wouldn’t be a surrogate. Having a baby puts a lot of strain on a woman’s body, and in some situations there can be complications. Even if she’s getting paid, it’s still wonderful that she would put her body through childbirth for someone else.

The surrogate isn't the bio mom, that would be my only correction. 😅 "Bio" means biological, which means DNA. It was definitely the baby's momma and daddy's DNA, since she only carried the baby to term and rented her uterus. 😉
So the correct term would be the gestational carrier/surrogate. 🥰
It's still amazing and so loving to do this for another person. It's such an act of love and giving. The baby definitely has a connection as they remember the smell, sound and heartbeat from being in the womb.

@@samdean556Not true. We have a friend whose wife acted as a surrogate. She owns her own photography business and has a travel blog because her husband is in the air force. They have two kids already and are living very well. She did it purely out of the goodness of her heart for a couple who couldn't have a child. Don't make it sound like couples are taking advantage of poor and desperate women. There is so much more that goes into surrogacy.

Women who are surrogates are some of the strongest women on this planet. Even though the baby isn't theirs, the body doesn't know that. The surrogate has to fight all the "motherly instinct" hormones that flow freely during and after giving birth. Strong AF, true angels.

The body doesn’t understand that it isn’t a “standard” pregnancy and so will go through the typical hormonal changes inherit in pregnancy and birth. There is absolutely a degree of separation and grief involved in surrogacy, which is one of many things that makes it such an incredible gift to offer another woman.

I have had my own 5 sons and 2 sons and a daughter for my kids cousin on their dad’s side. She cannot carry her own babies and just needed a little help bringing her family into the world. I have gotten a lot of people saying the same thing you said about surrogacy. I have also had a lot of people really go off on me about how I stole the chance for 3 children who were already alive and needing a home to be adopted by my niece. It always makes me feel good to see people who see the beauty in it like I do.

@@caseyj779 You didn't steal anything . It was a personal choice of the couple. If they weren't going to adopt then they weren't going to adopt. Most people that give such altruistic lectures won't adopt themselves . As much as I love the idea of adoption & would like more kid's that need adoption to be adopted , I also know you can't force or shame someone into it . They either decide to do it or they don't.

I know how you feel I just lost my boyfriend July 29 he was fighting lung cancer and bladder cancer for 2 years it was hard watching him go down like he did but at least he not in anymore pain I loved him to death we were together for 14 years

This is why I don't understand people who are against surrogacy. It's a beautiful, compassionate thing to do for another woman
It’s a beautiful thing when all goes well. Unfortunately when it doesn’t go well it’s exploitive and a living testament to how cruel human beings can be
The laws need to be better written, regarding surrogacy. Most surrogates are selfless, good people. Others, however, are the opposite.
This is true especially for the instances where the surrogates get left with the babies because the family changes their minds
If laws were well written to protect not only the women but babies I wouldn’t have such an issue with it. Like no overseas surrogacy, only not for profit surrogacy, women must have had at least 1 child previously so she knows what she is getting into, checks like in adoption to make sure kids aren’t being bred by predatory people.
I mean there are buildings in places like Ukraine and India where they literally house underprivileged women pregnant with rich western peoples babies & god knows who is paying for these baby’s and where some of these babies are going after. And the women get only a small fraction of the money involved. Most of it goes to the brokers taking advantage of these women’s desperation.
Also for reasons we don’t quite yet understand surrogacy pregnancies have more risk of fetal abnormalities, miscarriage, pre term births and maternal mortality.
Under the right circumstances it can be a beautiful thing if done correctly and for the right reasons but it’s the Wild West out there at the moment when it comes to surrogacy which is putting women and children in danger.
Because every child is entitled to a parent, but people are not entitled to have children. People who are desperate to be parents but cannot naturally conceive, should give their parental instincts to a child who is already alive and in need of love. It is so cruel to deprive those children of love, all for a narcissistic desire to pass on your bloodline. Surrogacy is not for the love of children, it is for the benefit of the adults.
Thinking about how difficult my pregnancy was and how much harder it was to recover (some complications after C-section had me back in the emergency ward), this woman is a saint.
For the amount they’re paid, I have to believe they don’t do it just for the money.
I'm crying. Everything about this is beautiful, beating cancer, an Angel carrying your baby, and a big happy family.

There are so many children just waiting to age out of the system. There are so many siblings that get separated from each other.
It’s not for everybody and it’s the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen! But I hope I can be an incredible mother after the nightmare these kids experienced!

One of the requirements to be a surrogate is you have to have your own child. One to ensure you can carry a child to term. Two, you already have your own child that is your own. The surrogate in this video already has a daughter and just wants to help another family have a chance of experiencing parenthood.

Anyone else wonder if that surrogate mother is truly forever at peace with this life altering choice? Currently pregnant with #2 and could never find it in me to give baby away at birth. I command her selflessness (I mean she was paid, but still, lots of deep sacrifices involved).
I mean, I understand where you’re coming from, but this child was never hers biologically. The egg and sperm are from the couple in the video. She grew the baby in her womb, but definitely not her biologically, so she’s not giving her baby away.
