From the start of the series onward it was established that they were using alien robots that we find out were leftover from Zero Day, "Nemesis Omega's" that he left behind- aka Brainiac's. You never thought that he wouldn't just take back control of them once he got in range again?
Well to be fair Waller and Luthor were so preoccupied with Superman (whose a superpowered alien) that they didn't think or even know about the true mastermind behind it all with that being Brainiac (An A.I. in a mechanical body with the power to hack their own tech which is technically kryptonian).
They were preparing for an invasion from Kryptonian soldiers, not an A.I trying to recreate the empire. Still, I feel that Brainiac’s invasion will only give them more reason to build an army to protect Earth - even if only because Superman being controlled shows the problem of just relying on him alone.

This reminds me of Batman and how the GCPD and other government forces are only threatening when they're chasing down the vigilantes. All this time and money wasted on hunting down superheroes when it could be spent on neutralizing villains and other real threats.

Waller is a fugitive now, and (annoyingly) Lex is still around. And has recruited Deathstroke. Which is weird, considering how badly those two get along.
The entire season until this moment has been him playing CIRCLES around Clark... he just wasn't prepared for the Alien Invasion to be led by a hyper advanced AI.
What I find especially funny is that Task Force X would never be truly prepared for an alien invasion, because the only alien they had experience with up to that point had a moral compass and was sandbagging to the nth degree. The second they went up against the sort of seasoned conqueror who had more than just raw power and no restraint in using their advantages, they folded.
Last time, kryptonite was enough to destroy one of their ships. Waller and Lex couldn't have known that these drones would be made immu-- _waaaait a minute, yeah, that doesn't make sense._ If THEY can use kryptonian tech and make it immune to the damn crystal, _why wouldn't Brainiac have eventually upgraded his tech?_

Ok so I haven't been keeping up with this show but I gotta ask...why did they think the kryptonite would work on, Brainiac? He's a robot and he's using robots, Kryptonite only works on Kryptonians. You'd think they'd realize that a radioactive chunk of rock would only work on a organic lifeform.
