- This is my first ever video. It was actually really fun to make. I hope everyone enjoys. There’s many different ways to add this rust/ patina effect but this is the way I do it and I like the results. The truck in this video is a 1950 chevy 3100 by AMT. Nice, very nice! 🔥🔥🔥 thank you. I enjoy this method of painting it gives the casting a personality
Yay! I started watching and the thumbs up was at 199 so now I am 200 thumbs up that’s awesome! Great tips by the way top-notch just getting back to modeling after 43 years off could use a lot of help! You guys have so much nice stuff now that I never had. I know I know walked to school both ways uphill in a snowstorm. But this has come along way! Awesome!
Definitely need to try this. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks for watching 👍 I hope it turns out great
"Under $5!"
Wips out a bunch of bottles of paint all worth over 3 quid each here😂
For real though very nice technique✌🏼🙌🏼
😂 here in the states each one of theses craft paint bottles cost $0.65 cents each
Can’t wait to try this on my next model!
Awesome video!!
Paige Williams glad you liked it!!
A little trick to get really good close up shots. Take a photo with a real camera and insert it into the video. You can really show the detail.
Great! I like the simplicity of application. Will try this technique on my RC truck..
I hope it turns out great! 👍
@@CustomScaleModels Me too... LOL!!
How do you "blend it in" you kept removing it from view and not showing how to do that. I am not a painter, you can't just assume everyone knows how to do that when you don't show it.
A wet brush or sponge will blend nicely ;)
Just dab dab with sponge
Rub it with your finger duh...🤦🏻♂️
Awesome....❤
Nice results. Will try this on my next project. 1/25 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona kit by Pro Modeler.
Awesome! 👍 I hope it turns out great for you. Thank you for watching!
That looks really good 👍
Thank you!
I like using this technique for rust under a salt and spray paint method.
Thx from Germany!
Thanks for the support 👍
Excelente técnica
Thanks for watching! Hopefully it helped you.
How are you blending it in??
Could you post a list of the colors please.
They were hard to read in video
Yeah I need a list to start also
Espresso brown
Earth brown
Caramel
Moccasin brown
Rich brown
Orange pumpkin
Flamingo red
Or just buy various rust tone paints and weathering powders to save you time with same results.
This is true but alot of people don’t/won’t spend the extra money on them and want a cheaper alternative. I use a mix of both on small projects I use rust tone paints but if I’m doing a big job I’ll just use this method.
@@CustomScaleModels
Buying several bottles of different color paint and mixing it to get rust color.. is not cheaper than buying v one bottle of rust color paint
But rust isn't a single tone, and he's using some of the cheapest paint you can buy.
@@DroneLifeRC you should checkout the local Kraft store and see howmuch these bottles cost. There usually less then 2 dollars a piece
What are you doing to "blend it in" when you move the stick off camera?
He's just lightly sponging the entire piece to blend..
Or he's rubbing it with his finger.
Very good how to tuturiol thanks for sharing iv subbed to ur channel from my channel for the support great video my friend,, Keith 👍
Thanks! I appreciate the support! I’ll check your channel out as well
Thanks bro keep up the good work 👍
How to blend ? i dont get it
Love the technique, but couldn’t see all the name of the colors you list them please? Thx.
The colors are.
Espresso bean.
Earth brown.
Caramel.
Moccasin brown.
Rich brown.
Pumpkin orange.
This was my first video so I really didn’t know what I was doing.
And flamingo red
When you say "Blend it in", how do you do it? Sorry newbie here and your video is really helpful :)
You can blend by dabbing with a sponge the same way he is applying the paint, try a separate dry sponge or you can dampen it a little with water. You will get a different look with each of those
I know he says blend it and he takes it out of the frame. Great video 🥴
Seems like there was too many paint layers. Use different colors at the same application time. I've done it in 3, and I did used the cheap paints. 1st, base coat. 2nd , brown, black and yellow, (+ more). 3rd, rust color of your choice, ie, orange , turquoise, light green, white etc. You need to blend multi-colors to get that real weather effect.
Why not get one bottle of rust color paint.
I found some at Hobby Lobby
This was my first video and I was only modeling for like 2 weeks at this point. So I didn’t know much. Now I have the rust colors and pigments
Would have been more helpful if you showed the “blend it in” parts. Thanks for the video though .
Where is full vedio of truck
I built that truck before I started making videos. So it never got filmed.
@@CustomScaleModels ok np I have tried and I got result thatks for shared vedio keep sharing
Dang ! My Auto must not be working ! I got nothing
what's that mean (Auto not working?
Nice, but it would have been much more instructive if you had shown HOW you blend the colors, instead of doing it off camera! Seems like that is a crucial part of the process...
I noticed that after I made the video and I agree but This is my first video so it was a learning process for me. But they will get better.
Custom Scale Models what did you use to blend it?
I just dabbed most of the paint off of the sponge and used that.
why on a dark piece
It also works on a light piece
Itd be a lot more entertaining if you did it on an actual model
I did do it on a 50s Chevy truck but never made a video of it. I’ve been thinking about doing a whole rusted build since my skills have became better. This was the first time I ever did it.
what do you think he was holding in his hand 😂
@@ConditionZero76 A piece of wood
It wasn’t a piece of wood lol
Or a bigger strip of paperboard. Made it almost impossible to pick up the tone after each application. Way too small.
