Matt, I am an 8th generation Texan. my ancestors lived here when this area was still part of Mexico. they fought alongside Sam Houston for Texas independence. I have lived in Texas all my 57 years.
so with my history known to all I am giving you official permission to use the contraction " Y'ALL " !
no reason for you to have to waste your time with " you all " any longer.
also barbecued armadillo is fantastic !
That's awesome and very kind, I'll try and work it into the next video. Not sure I'll get used to saying it hahaha.
Also from Texas, I second the nomination!
You are hilarious 😂
You cracked me up with the jellyfish squishy “I didn’t enjoy it” 😂 I would feel the same way! Part of the enjoyment for me is watching the plants grow and having a “river vibe” in my home. Also, I just discovered after a tank cleaning yesterday that my Pygmy Cories have been very busy! I removed a ton of my dwarf water lettuce and noticed Pygmy fry all at different life stages. What a blessing! 1st time ever in the 6 months I’ve had them
Hahaha yeah I thought I would enjoy it more than I did.
That's amazing to hear about your pygmy Corys!!!
'It just didn't Gel with me'
Use the jelly fish tank to breed daphnia so you've got a source of live food for the fish.
Not for nothing, I don't mind at all seeing the family, the toys and the doggos. You're a family guy with a family friendly channel, in a very fake world I appreciate genuine. As for the stocking it doesn't matter to me I'm here to learn. Oh and you just haven't had enough kids making enough noise in your house yet because I've never lived in the South and even I've yelled "OK! ALL YA ALL NEED TO.... " 😂And I really like the music on your videos!
Thank you so much! It is definitely what you see is what you get channel.
So true about kids I have a few nieces and nephews and when they're all here I can even hear myself shouting that hahaha.
I’m looking forward to seeing the garage when it’s finished
So am I hahaha 🤣
gotta love matt. gets some time home alone and uses it to geek out over fish tanks with us
That new project would be epic for Chocolate Gourami - they are also a fish that people can struggle with, so could be great to talk about upping the care level!
The jellyfish tank has a very unique look to it. Might be a fun challenge to repurpose it!
That driftwood lamp is awesome idea 🎉
I think so too! And it hasn't broken yet! Hahaha
Brilliant video once again Matt, love it when you ramble on 😄 and go off-topic slightly, also love the general everyday mess around you of a typical home rather than a pristine exhibition room, it's your everyday hobbyist. Definitely going in the right direction IMHO
Thank you so much! Yeah there is stuff everywhere in my house I say it's because I have an artistic mind, Katie says it's because I'm untidy hahaha.
WOW. I didn't realize how many tanks you have! And each one is beautiful!
Hahaha I do have a lot and there is more upstairs which I show off in a previous maintenance video
@@FishShopMatt I caught that there were quite a few in the upstairs fish room, but somehow missed the count downstairs. Now, when the garage is up and running, are you going to move the tanks from your house to the garage, or just buy more and fill the garage too?
You’re right Matt,DONT keep things you don’t enjoy anymore…so the wife went 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻now I can keep as many tanks as I want..bliss..
😂😂😂
Hahaha do whatever makes you happy!
I LOVE that Matt always shows us things 'warts-and-all' ... His successes, his failures, his mistakes, and even his mess lol 🙈🙉🙊...It just keeps everything really Real, and down-to-earth, and I really love that about his channel ❤💛❤
Thank you so so much, it's definitely you get what you see hahaha
It's great seeing what happens to tanks after the initial set-up!
Another amazing video. I can totally see why you didn’t enjoy the jellyfish. But please keep thinking and trying things outside of the box.
Super cool moss ball in squishys tank. Start with a tiny bit of java moss and see how big you can grow it
Gosh, I just love your dogs ❤️. I can't wait for the garage tour!
Thank you so much!!
I love those blueberry snails. I'm thinking I need to set up a tank for some and begin breeding them.
Loved this vid. I like seeing mature tanks and how people keep them up!
Black water - Rummy Nose Rasbora my new favourite fish. The males are stunning.
Yes! If I can find some with females I'll get them!
10:38 i do remember thinking wow keeping a jellyfish seems like a lot of work for what it is 😅 I love seeing them in aquariums but I wouldn’t keep them. I’m happy to hear that Squeashy is fine in another home 👍🏼
Yeah it's fun but just not my style! I enjoyed it in some ways and it ticked off a box.
Nice tanks! My vote for the blackwater cube would be honey gouramis, lambchop rasboras, and kuhli loaches!
You have read my mind, watch this space.
Chocolate gourami!! I've wanted them for years but keep chickening out!
yeah ...gives a gourami vibe. Amazonian tetras will just swim around which are good in a "long" kind of tank space but this looks more like a "nature cube", I'd suggest fish like gourami with some thought process swimming, some personality and character in a flooded forest, may be??
Yeah I believe this is the way we're going to end up going.
Thank you, I really enjoyed this. I used to watch TV with my afternoon cuppa, now I switch over to RUclips to see what you’ve been up to.
For the new blackwater....chocolate gourami! I love them and they stay pretty small
I love the idea of the twin tanks, with red shrimp on one side, and blue on the other ! cant wait to see how Matt does it 😍
Coming soon!
that bowl tank is the coolest thing ive seen in a while! i love it so much, it makes me want to try out a similar scape.
thank you for sharing! im excited to see how that split log setup turns out
Thank you so much! You should give it a go it was so much fun!
Sparkling gouramis please Matt! With an accompanying fish file. Great video by the way.
Great suggestion! I think this maybe the winning fish from the comments section!
Matt, I love all those tanks, trying to coax the wife into getting a couple more, I’d love to see you setting up and breeding those tetra, that would be so cool
All the aquariums look so lovely. I have to admit I absolutely love the flooded forest one. I keep getting inspired by your videos and I keep coming up with new ideas, so my tiny front room is slowly becoming a collection of scaped tanks. Thank you
Interested in seeing how the white Anubias gets on
I would expect badly because they're a nightmare to grow. But we shall see.
With regards to Squishy, I totally agree, that if your heart isn't into keeping him, then send him somewhere better, where he can live out his best Squishy life. I will admit ... when I saw him ... I was a little underwhelmed ... You could barely see him ... and, as Matt said ... all that Squishy did, was go around and around. However, I am glad that Squishy has gone to someone who will be more 'into' him, and that he now has a Squishy Friendship Circle to hang 'around' with lol (
Yep totally agree, it's best to admit you're not into something and find a better home rather than let them sit there.
I did see what you did there hahaha.
I’m eager to see what you do with those cork rounds. Sounds really cool.
' If it works ... It ain't stupid ... ' - Fish Shop Matt 2024 lol 😁
Very interesting and pretty set ups. I really enjoyed watching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looking forward to the two shrimp tanks, but I will watch all of them !
They're coming along nicely!
Very entertaining video love the mixed videos , cant wait for the new projects and i hope the best for u
Matt I watch U and me all the time both of U got me very interested In doing my own so thank U . But now Ur on Ur own U have come so far and Ur work is amazing I will watch all Ur videos keep up the amazing work and I wish U all the success in the world keep it up and well done fish shop Matt
Ment U and md not U and me😂😂😂
Hahaha I was wondering when we worked together! 😜
Thank you so much! I'm so happy to help and inspire people 💜💜💜
@@FishShopMatt keep it up U and md together were good but U have a different way of looking at things and make the things look easier and that is what us beginners need so thank U and keep getting bigger mate Ur friend Simon Christmas
I'd fill the jellyfish tank with moss balls. Aquatic tribbles.
Hi Matt, I've had 3 tanks with Endlers in, all heated separately. I noticed I got more males in my 4ft that's at 26-27C so I upped the temp in my 2 smaller tanks and started getting more males.
I live in the same area as you so my water is the same. Maybe pop a heater in and see if it makes a difference. 😊
Oooo that's interesting a few people told me it needed to be cooler maybe that's where it's gone wrong!
Thanks for the info I'll give it a try.
@@FishShopMatt another thought on the Endlers, mine are in communities with barbs, tetra, danios, etc. Maybe the "threat" environment encourages breeding ratios?
Hey Matt . Another great video as usual . Always interesting to see how all those water-vessels and inhabitants have evolved . I also love seeing your canine friends . "Dogs Are The Best People" by Australian band 'The Fauves' is still a favourite of mine . I spotted a Dalmatian this morning , it was the least I could do ... LOL? + CHEERS from OZ .
Thank you so much! I would have to agree dogs are great!!!
Hahahaha 🤣 I'm sure the dalmatian appreciated it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the tank at the beginning of the video being refreshed. I have a tank that I've been debating if I should take it down, or try to make beautiful again. I am leaning towards replacing some stem plants with root feeding plants. The stem plants have become string algae and detritus harbors.
Yeah it's hard to make the decision, I've just picked up some epic hardscape so it may be sooner than I thought hahaha
Amanos with red plants and Cherrys with green plants. imo that could look really cool, just a pain keeping up with the iron levels i suppose. love your setups and the idea of splitting that tree stump like wood is brilliant !!
That's a cool idea! I might have a think about how I could incorporate it.
All good Squishy is happy😊
Thanks for the long videos , takes me away from the real world for a bit 😎
Glad you like them! You are always welcome to come and hang out away from stresses and the real world here! 💜💜💜
The big cube - go Asian, along with the plants
The twin scape, stick to your plan and use the same plants either side. Why not try 2 types of Caridina Shrimp CRS and Black bee shrimp.
Best of luck with that White Anubias 🤞
Thanks for the video.
Ofc you will have a small group of Channa gachua, in that big cube black water tank 😀 greetings from Sweden
If I could find some decent channa it would be a definite go to. I might keep my eyes open for them and get some for a future project.
You're really good at making videos
OMG THE MAGNET TRICK! YOU ARE THE MAN ! 19:24
Hahaha I can't remember who showed me but it is a great trick!
I have enjoyed this video so much😊
Very lovely and detailed.
Thank you! 😊
Garami's!!!! Light colors in the contrast dark environment. 👍
Agreed!
When you fill a shallow tank up pour the water through a sponge to keep from disturbing the sand or gravel That’s what I do in my nano bowl aquarium
Love the idea of a big black water tank, my favourite style of tank. What about liquorice gourami in there , they look lovely and you're lucky enough to have the soft water they love
Yeah I'm tempted by them but they're quite small and I'm not sure you would see them enough in there.
@@FishShopMatt yeah I've heard they're hide and seek fish lol
Make the 2 cubes with the light a double betta set up! Just put something between them to stop aggression! Think it will work well with the wood in half
This was a temptation to be fair!
You got to have a musk turtle in the qube 👌🏻😊
Lies all lies! No RUclips fish tank set up has ever lasted more then 6 months. lol. Always love the videos. Thanks
Hahahaha I was thinking about it and I've changed the planting a bit here and there so is any tank properly set up for this long? It's a constant ever changing product.
The drift wood light is awesome an i think if you could get something to grow on it that would just add to it. The tank with the spray bar i like the way it looks now it looks like a flooded forest. the spray bar kinda hidden could look good to and for me i would make it like a haunted forest. The double tanks i like the idea of the blue and red shrimp and your kids might like it for the colors. Just my thoughts.
How about some fiddler crabs, they may be able to use the wood to climb up on as some speicies require a dry area...
Awwwww man that would be so cool!!! I would have to do a bit more research before though but definitely going to look into it.
22:03 that rock has Danny Trejo's face on it and i cant unsee it
Hahaha now I can't unsee it! Every time I walk past it now "hey Danny"
Sparkling gourami are amazing little guys they get my vote
Yeah it seems everyone wants gourami
Yes, I was just about to ask about the axolotls.
Yeah they're doing well! I sort of forgot about them whilst filming this but will do something with them soon I'm sure.
Great video thank you
Make you a nice light holder with that Bambu A1.
That would be cool, I just need to gain the skills in designing stuff.
Un grand merci pour le partage!
Thank you! 💜
Nice printer! Don't suppose I could ping you some STL's for an up coming D&D game? 🤣 I jest, would be cool to see a D&D themed scape using printed stuff, not to give you more work or anything 😅
Great vid Matt.
Thank you
In the first tank right behind you, is that a gourami with a black stripe?! I don't recall seeing this type of gourami before. Cool.
They do look like a gourami but they're a festive cichlid. Fairly peaceful but they do get chunky.
@@FishShopMatt Wonderful :)
How about a pair of Threadfin Rainbows? They look amazing when the males are displaying for the females, a very underappreciated fish IMO. Also Pea Puffers are fun.
Both are great fish! Definitely on the shortlist.
If You want to avoid pouring from a bucket - buy a pump (for example hsb-750) and use it for change. It makes things easier and does not create mess :)
I do have one of those or at least similar. I always forget to use it, I think I have too many aquarium tools!
Matt uploads a new video I click to watch! Snap I have the same gaming chair too 😎
It's a fairly comfy chair I just need extra pillows for my old man back haha
@@FishShopMatt Haha I've fallen asleep on mine many times especially when I put the recliner down 😂
Let’s go Australian Black water Aru IV Gertrude that are that nice blue with white edges
Oooooo and Australian tank would be cool!
What about some kind of small puffers like pea puffers in the last tank. Or Pearl Gourami. Pictus Catfish
Matt, how about you do a bright fish in the cork bark tank... dwarf blue gourami or, and I can't remember which has the bright, rainbow like speckles on it's flanks... one of those that pop color in a dark water tank? I am, curious about gouramis, actually. I'm trying to figure out what type dwarf variant I would put in my next tank build, a bigger tank than my 29g, lol. Gouramis are on the list. It definitely would be helpful if you can tell us about dwarf vs larger varieties. I definitely do not want to make a mistake on buying a big fish that I'd have to scramble to rehome because I made a mistake on species and size. I definitely prefer nano fish and dwarf varieties. On the bowl, how about trim the peace lilly, refresh the plants but stay with the mini plants, add some fine gravel coming out from the waterfall, just a bit of really fine, small gravel... leave the front open a little bit more to see the black shrimp. I have some black shrimp and love them, thankfully they have endured in my 5g girl beta and girl blue crayfish planted tank.
Good one❤
Thanks 🔥
I really enjoy seeing the "older" aquariums with up dates. Fish Shop Matt, you inspired me with the Asian cup tank. The theme is: "Five Steps to Wisdom " I have 5 little fighting guys, I purchased five-2.5" Asian tea cups, then an Fairy Princess statue. The tank is a 3 gal., self contained Glofish tank, I had a blue and white placket beta, (which died due to the flow current being too strong. I learned I could adjust the flow...). I also have ten neon tetra, and one Cory. My problem I am facing is the nerite snails and Cory destroyed my plants in the cups. Do you have any suggestions for anchoring the plants and what kind of plants to use? Also... The new bog wood tank is going to be Awesome! My idea... keep the water fall and purchase a terrarium purple plant, (I don't know the name, but top of leaves green, bottom of leaves purple, and roots are white) clean the roots and hang on the waterfall. I did this with my Elder tank and it looks very rich, the plant loves it and is growing strong.
That's so cool! Thank you for commenting.
Epiphytes glued to little rocks could make the tea cups look good and no worries about floating. Any plant once they've rooted they should stay down, maybe some small pebbles or gravel in the top of the tea cups to stop digging.
How about a tank with some African dwarf frogs 🤔🤔😜✌️💜
I nearly got some the other day as an impulse buy but talked myself out of it and want to set a tank up purely for them.
@@FishShopMatt 😂😂 I do exactly the same when I see them 😜✌️💜
I wish someone maybe hopefully you would do a section on a cloudy tank
I don't know if this helps with the Endlers, but I've found the ratios of male to female seem dependent on temp. Lower temps give more males.
This is what I thought so went with lower temps and still getting females. It's very strange
@@FishShopMatt could be the water hardness then. Where I am my ph is almost 8, I understand yours is closer to 7. It maybe a combo of lower temps with higher pH. Btw if you want like 40 fry I have some to spare if you don't mind a trip to Southampton.
What is the dripping thing with the air plant and how does that work? I haven’t seen that before. Great video!
30:00 The smallest of the snakeheads like Channa andrao.
If only I could find some currently!!! Maybe I'll have another look before fully deciding.
Great video Matt, if you’ve got a few empty tanks would you consider some pure bred Poecilia Wingei? They have been declared officially endangered in their natural habitat and they are such characterful little fish.
If I can find some absolutely I would! I may have a chat with a few people I know who work a lot with live-bearers.
@@FishShopMatt I know someone with the most complete collection in the UK. Let me know if you’d like the details.
Hello Matt😊
for the cork bark blackwater tank, non annual killifish maybe?
Awww that would be so cool!
😂the constant telling certain fish to get out the way 🤣some fish just have no manners!🙄
I need to train them better!!!
My two dog are sleeping 3cats and 1bearded dragon😂
hi! how did you build this waterfall with air plants please?
What are those white pleco’s in the first tank? Just baby’s or? They are proper snow white. I’m in love.
They are sub adult snow white bristlenose.
@@FishShopMatt sorry just seen this, they are gorgeous! Thanks for the reply man love your channel
❤❤❤
No answers to anything only to let you know that I’m looking forward to the next video ☺
Thank you so much! 💜
Trichopsis Vittatus, please!
I saw a group of these the other day and was really tempted!
You have a 3d printer you could design and make a mount for the 20cm light....
I could if I was clever, great at printing awful at designing hahaha
@@FishShopMatt give me the dimensions I can design it for you
@@FishShopMatt also I made a water diffuser that I use for bucket/pitcher refilling purposes. I'm sure I have a video on my channel of it. Lmk and I can send that stuff aswell
👍🏻👍🏻
❤
Black neons for the black water? Are they as skiddish as green tetras seem to be? Were you and MD in disagreement about green tetra stage fright? Can’t remember. Also, do more natural fish ponds! Koi? Wetland filtration? That would be cool to see
Black neons are generally a quite brave fish. Green neons are always lurking in the plant hide away kind of fish.
Got more planned for ponds just need the weather to help me out haha stupid rain!
Schefflera - is usually pronounced (in America) Chef-a-ler-a The first a is sort of passed over but it's still there.
Awesome thank you, I always end up putting too many eleras in hahaha
Have you ever scaped a betta trio or quad. I'm looking to do it at some point
No but I would be interested in doing one at some point. The tanks are quite small so they can be tricky to aquascape but it would still be great fun!
@@FishShopMatt ye I'm looking at ideas maybe a tiny rock scape in one and a bonsai in the second no idea about the third.
Under an hour club
Whoop 🙌
