This video appears to show a Russian soldier executing his comrade after his comrade is wounded by a Ukrainian FPV Drone. While I believe that this occurred, there is no way of determining if the wounded soldier was complicit in the act.
The choice of footwear is more interesting in this particular video. These appear to be Adidas sneakers this may indicate that the Russian supply system is unable or unwilling to equip their soldiers with anything more than weapons or ammunition even after two years of war.

I saw that graphic video of russian soldier getting merkked by his "comrad in arms".. It PISSED ME OFF so much.. No matter how badly hit or not you are i will drag or carry you out of there .. Leave no man behind is not some nice sounding catchphrase... and there it is.. getting spun up again.

There is believe/practice since Afghanistan that low boots are better if you step on the mine - less of the leg will be teared off comparing to wearing higher boots (sapogi)

The two then casually went and sat down under a tree to take a break and a drone hit those 2 killing them.

As one who served in the Russian army I can tell that you will voluntarily ditch the army boots for sneakers as soon as opportunity arises because wearing them will injure and damage your feet faster than any bulet can. It was straight up forbidden base wide to do any sport activities in them because one lap around the court will destroy your feet in 3 ways simultaneously.
So the fact that he wears sneakers actually can be a good thing that this soldier had a choice of what to wear and not come to the last resort of standard issue boots.

      @@tomfuller4205, no, they're not.
As someone who's worn both for Years & often both in the same day combat boots simply work better if you're walking around a lot.
You absolutely need the ankle support a boot gives you otherwise you'll turn an ankle over uneven, unfamiliar ground, particularly if you're traveling at speed like these 3 gentlemen.
That's why linemen in American football don't wear low-top cleats. They ALWAYS wear high-top cleats. They need the ankle support & protective stability high-top shoes offer.
And speaking of cleats, let's talk about soles & the fact that the soles of running shoes are NOT made for dirt or rocks. Most of them are not non-slip for starters, & good or great running shoes have soles that runners wear out in, like, 2-3 Months. They make running shoe soles disposable & with a high wear rate on purpose.
All of that is the opposite of a good trail or combat boot. A good boot gives you ankle & tarsal support, it has a low-wear, hard rubber sole SPECIFICALLY MADE for the trail, & it's made out of real leather or some other very durable, water-resistant material.
Besides, if my old instructors saw me fall in wearing sneakers they'd have had my guts for garters 🤣👍. Wearing sneakers in combat is... it's just not something professionals do. Even the vloody FARC gave their people real boots, dude. There's no excuse for this.

If you’ve got a defensive position, you know you’ve got an aid station near by.
From an assaulting position, these guys could’ve pushed a full 5 clicks into a contested/gray zone and know that a tourniquet isn’t going to do jack shit if command isn’t going to send a vehicle to recover you.
I can tell you, no military commander in their sane mind, especially considering the losses we see of hardware in Ukraine, is going to send an ambulance, chopper or medivac vehicle without assistance a few K’s away from their nearest defensive line directly to a contested grey zone and back to recover one guy with a wound of unknown severity.
The Americans love to push their “no man left behind” philosophy, but when you’ve got your entire armed forces deployed to a full scale war, one single soldier out of 500,000 to 1,000,000 is very, very insignificant.
No sane commander would risk the lives of a platoon or a convoy, to save a single soldier stranded potentially kilometres away in no man’s land.
Most of the US’s no man left behind principle, also stems from the fact that every war they’ve fought in the last 6 decades, there’s either been dozens of kilometres between them and the enemy, or they have a complete tactical or equipment advantage to be able to commit to doing so with minimal risk.

The Ukrainians have lost more men in this war than we did in WWII. In spite of not fighting an enemy with armor, artillery or AirPower in the last 50 years, we have had catastrophic results. Half of those who served in Iraq/Afganistán have applied for or are receiving disability benefits and the VA estimates that 95% will apply as they age. Most of the disabled were not in direct combat. In fact there is a huge number who apply for disability who were not even in the combat theater. Female soldiers have even higher rates of disability. If our Army were to be involved in a ground war with China or Russia the troops won’t be left behind, they won’t go. They’ll suffer from Pre-traumatic stress disorder.

There's a video of Ukrainian soldier asking to be merci-killed and the AFU medic says "That's above my paygrade, do it yourself when you get better". The reason for that is that they all know there's going to be a second drone and a third one, if needed, as well as the guy is not walking anywhere from there by himself, as well as there's going to be no medevac for him.
Secondly, the guy is not armed, his behaviour and the way he moves differs from the other two's, he's looks submissive and non-threatening.
The rear soldier doesn't even try to warn him or rush to check him after the hit, which implies there's little affection between them, and the victim was seen as a burden or a source of some unpleasant chore.
My guess he was either a deserter, a druggie or something like that, who was going to face some nasty things like beating, torture, imprisonment, possibly death very soon.
So, they caught the guy and were escorting him back to their unit for him to see punishment, he got hit by a drone and finished off by one of his captor - saving both sides extra time and trouble and most likely avoiding a good amount of pain, suffering and humiliation for himself.

I don't know what is like in the present Canadian military but if you watch interviews of Canadian and American soldiers who were at D day there is a significant difference. Canadian soldiers talked of how hard it was not to stop and help their wounded friends on the beaches while Americans talked of rescuing their wounded. I have also heard it is irrational to risk live soldiers to recover the dead which Americans seem to do at times. I remember my dad during ww2 in Italy describing a person who had stepped on a mine screaming all night but was not recovered until the engineers came in the morning. Again I don't know what it is like now but in the past an unspoken doctrine was during an attack you do not stop for your wounded or leave live enemies behind you. The basis for this was you do not divert forces from the objective either looking after prisoners or helping wounded, that what medics were for. National traditions do vary and the case you have here is not an attack.

Firstly, they wear the Addidas sneakers because they think it makes them look "cool". This comes from Russian Spetsnaz in Afghanistan in the 1980's being filmed and photographed wearing Addidas sneakers. So this is an established "thing" in the Russian military...and since the Russian military CLEARLY has no rules or regs on what their meat puppets wear, they pretty much wear whatever they want. Or more accurately, whatever they can find/afford/steal from an abandoned Ukrainian home/apartment.
Second, I too have been watching combat footage from Ukraine for the last two years. Literally every day. So it surprises me that you don't know what is going on in this footage. Over the last few weeks/months, more and more drone videos of Russian soldiers who were wounded by Ukrainian FPV drones off-switching themselves with their own rifles have become more and more common.
The reason for this is THE DRONES! A Russian soldier like the one shown in the video you are discussing KNOWS that he has only two options once he is severely wounded by a Ukrainian FPV drone and he is unable to evac himself from the battlefield because his comrades WILL NOT risk their own lives to an FPV drone by trying to help evac their wounded comrade.
So the only two options for this wounded Russian were as follows: Either lay there in pain until THE NEXT Ukrainian FPV drone comes and turns his entire body inside-out, OR he off-switches himself. In this case, because he was unarmed, he deliberately asked his armed comrade to do it for him. And the comrade obliges without hesitation, which is the most telling part of the video. This is very clearly shown in the drone footage, as others have already pointed out. He repeatedly taps his own temple and steels himself for the shot.
And that is the reason why...because the only other outcome for him is getting obliterated by the next Ukrainian FPV drone, and the Russians would rather take the quick and painless way out instead of lying there in pain until the next drone eventually arrives.

Stupid jokes about guy's penis being hurt, questioning things that were pretty obvious in the complete version of the video, misleading insinuations about failing Russian logistics, bragging about not leaving anybody behind when fighting Somalia (country with 20 000 times smaller defense budget)...
He just used somebody's misery to push his false narrative. Pretty low in my opinion.

I watched this video prior to seeing your analysis. To me it appeared that the soldier hit by the drone was gesturing to the other to shoot him in the head. The wounded soldier then turned his head down as if to prepare himself for death. That is just my take on it.
It seems that recently there is a huge uptick in videos of Russian soldiers committing suicide after being wounded. I feel it speaks to the poor morale of the Russian troops.

    • @CZpersi
      @CZpersi 3 месяца назад +6

Every standard army knows very well, how dangerous the so-called "trench foot" is, not to mention various smaller injuries that can happen to your foot while on the battlefield (shrapnels, sharp objects, dislocated joints, hot liquids, fire, inflamations etc.). I do not know if they are still doing it, but the US military, for example, used to have regular feet inspections and the requirements to wear proper boots vere very strict. Look on almost every movie about military, how obsessed they are with boots and with keeping them in order. Soldier refusing to wear standard issue boots would thus be a sign of a low morale in the unit. US soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan also did not wear sneakers, no matter how high the temperatures were - they were issued desert boots.

About the sneakers.. ..I don't think they're necessarily indicative of anything. I was in the (edit: Swedish) military and sure, we had standard issue boots to wear but then we were also allowed to wear sneakers (or privately procured boots/footwear) in certain situations. If we had a particularly severe case of rash or chafing for whatever reason (new boots or whatever), we were certainly allowed to wear sneakers or non-standard issue footwear even in active duty situations.
