Hi CC, my collection is what is known as a pocket change collection consisting of world coins, pre decimals and circulation date runs. I find it a shame when people say they don't do different types of coin hunts because it doesn't get views, and only concentrate on 50ps and £2 coins. Smaller denomination hunts produce alot of world and territories coins with excellent designs on them.
Good for you, very few coins are truly a good investments. Recently I decided in my collecting to invest in my grand kids. I've bought 3 different lots of 100 foreign coins just random "worthless " coins but the kids love looking at and touching these coins little sponges eager to learn fun for them and fun for me. The best investment I could make.
I'm glad to hear from another true collector of coins. I've seen too many people hung up on the value of certain coins, especially when they're made of silver or gold.
Collectors collect for the love of the hobby.... my wife says I hoard. My collection comprises of decimal date runs, including all post-1971 Crowns/25p/£5 coins, all the way back to the late 1700's with Cartwheel Pennies and 2p's and everything in between.... so yes, it looks like I have a habit of hoarding lol. The hoard does hold value due the amount of silver, gold and older coins, but at present my truly valuable coins are the Sovereigns.
The 1940 5 cents is Philidelphia minted. For that series of coins, the mintmark would be on the reverse to the right of the building but only for Denver and San Francisco, Philly was no mintmark at this time.
It's YOUR collection, you jolly well collect exactly what you want, valuable or not. My collection of British Decimal coins contains definitive 1p, 2p etc, maybe they aren't worth a great deal, but what use would my collection of 1p and 2p coins be without say a 1974 1p or a 1982 2p ? Not worth much on their own, but as part of a collection?
I hope you don't mind multiple comments I tend to respond as you speak. Even if you are just a collector it is helpful to sell every once in a while just to see what others value in your collection. It can help you to purchase pieces wisely for your collection.
Nice gift from 2Les Coins. The world is full of critics. You be you 👍. I love coins and the history too. 👍😎🍀💜

The mint mark on the nickel would be on the back just to the right of the building
If you decide to collect only Victoria, then that's OK too. It's YOUR collection, YOUR hobby, YOUR time. YOUR pleasure, no one else's
i know! it’s such an odd thing to be told what i should be collecting 💁🏼♀️
