    I think Bobbery's story about his wife has gotta be the saddest for Mario standards it's honestly so sad and outta the blue that it feels unreal, and I'd say second saddest Mario moment is definitely the ending too Super Paper Mario, I remember almost crying when I saw it when I was a kid. Also the part where Bowers tells Jr. That Peach isn't his mom but he already knows is pretty sad too

    • @warioland523
      @warioland523 3 года назад +25

      Yeah Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door was dark at times up to that point but it was mostly played for laughs as sort of a dark humor which makes sense since the game is kind of after the first game and the game seems to know that the audience matured more at the time of the game's release so they put things in that can make people laugh more. But then that scene happens and I'm like..."That's not funny...that's just sad man. Why did you put this in a Mario game?" I actually felt terrible for Bobbery; If he didn't go out to sea he would have been there with Scarlette in her final moments or even find a way to cure her. But he went off on a voyage without her and she contracted a fatal illness while he was away and when he returned the realization probably hit him hard. Bobbery could not live with himself blaming himself for his wife's death to the point where he shut himself inside his own house and became a miserable and grumpy old man that refused to even answer his own door. This is actually a person going through a phase of grief stricken depression in a freaking Mario game of all things. Sure you can say it's bittersweet in a way how Bobbery's story comes to a close in that he comes out for what is probably the first time in a long time to resume his travels knowing that it's what Scarlette would have wanted him to do. A rather touching line from Goombella saying that Scarlette's ghost will always be with Bobbery in spirit just makes it all the more heartwarming. People often say that Vivian is the most sympathetic party member because she's a victim of abuse and manipulation and yeah that is true. But what Bobbery goes through can definitely put him up there with Vivian on the tragic scale. Nobody should have to go through the amount of grief that he had to go through. And the thing is. Beldam turned over a new leaf. She learned of her mistakes and tried to strive to be a better sister according to the ending towards Vivian. Bobbery though. There's nothing much he can do but move on. He had his time to grieve and reconcile with whom he had lost and reflect on it but at the end of the day that's all one can do. After all if Scarlette was still around she would not want to see Bobbery in the sad state he was in before he joined Mario's party.

He gained new happy memories with Mario, but then a seemingly impassible obstacle that would hinder Mario from saving the Mushroom Kingdom. He sacrificed himself to help Mario and rescue Olivia.

      Still to this day that news makes me sad. I look back on the M&L series and even if the stories are true that Nintendo will continue the franchise themselves that does raise the concerning question will it ever be the same again? Alpha Dream always poured heart and soul with each M&L installment to make fun and engaging RPGs. Even Paper Jam which was considered as the worst M&L game I still really enjoyed a lot which does say something. Even if the series were to continue I don't think it would be the same without Alpha Dream because of that amount of dedicated talent they put into them.

      I actually have a theory that due to how much of a darker and sinister personality that Bowser had in Galaxy 1 that he may have been responsible for what happened to Rosalina's mother. Think about this. Bowser in that game wanted the power of the cosmos for himself to rewrite the universe as he sees fit essentially playing God. He really didn't care about how his actions would effect the universe in any way. My guess is Rosalina's mother caught wind of Bowser's plan to rule the galaxy a long time ago and tried to stop him. However because Bowser had the power of the stars as well as his dark magic power and physical strength she stood no chance against the king of the Koopas and lost. However unlike in Paper Mario where Mario was brutally beaten to death there were no Star Spirits to give her a second chance at life. That was just it for her. I actually can picture the final moments which makes it both terrifying and sad like how the mother is trying to tell Rosalina to run away and not look back and giving her false reassurance that it will be okay knowing she may die as Bowser and his troops start invading the Gateway and she makes what she knows will be her final stand. In SMG1 Bowser was an evil diabolical villain played straight. He had no comedic quirks to him at all. He just wanted to crush Mario to dust and found great joy in that thought. He wasn't just a typical villain. He was an intergalactic warlord obsessed with power.

    • @arcticdino1650
      @arcticdino1650 3 года назад +11

      @@warioland523Some small problems. The Gateway didn't exist while Rosalina's mother still lived. That was what Rosalina and Luna are heavily implied to have built. There's also the fact that the way Rosalina refers to Bowser finding out about Star power that he only realized the power star's true power after Rosalina's ship lost her power stars. Also Rosalina's mother isn't ever implied to have any actual space powers. And then there's timeline wise. Bowser and Mario are the same age, and Rosalina has been doing the star festival thing for hundreds of years. Rosalina is MUCH older than Bowser.

    Young Master Luma sacrificing himself to save Mario and the universe from being destroyed Bowser was possibly the saddest moment because this shows that when Bowser is becoming more evil, new allies of Mario will more likely have to sacrifice themselves to save them. For me Geno always saying goodbye will always make me shed a tear. The music didn't help. The thing with Mario RPG is it was a one of a kind game. It gave us a unique cartoon setting with a well established world and characters. You feel like you are actually on a charming misadventure with a party that grows overtime. It puts you in Mario's shoes gaining friends from unlikely places and even and forming an alliance with an old enemy to fight a greater enemy through humorous adventures. Super Mario RPG wasn't a dark game like other Mario RPGs. It was mostly comedic and wacky in it's design but you still feel like you are in Mario's world in RPG form because of that and grow connected to it's characters. Even the villains are wacky and silly. The main bad guy is a boiler with anger management issues for crying out loud. Geno leaving is like saying goodbye to a friend that you knew for a long time and while he's still alive you won't ever see him again and that's touching and kind of sad in a way. Especially considering Geno is such a cool character. He's basically a star spirit possessing a puppet that has a built in weaponry and magic at his disposal which is not only a very unique design for a character in concept but is also freaking awesome. It makes me sad that Nintendo cannot use any of the characters from Super Mario RPG in other installments because they are all so memorable. Mario RPG left an ever lasting legacy. It happened and in doing so it became one of the best Mario games ever made because of it's impact. Remember that Paper Mario may never have happened if it wasn't for Mario RPG. Well yes Nintendo lost rights to a lot of things related to Mario RPG the foundation it set led to the Paper Mario franchise which is still going strong to this day with the release of Origami King.

    Anyway, Happy Easter 2021.

    I gotta say imo, and maybe I’m speaking for others too, that I think the Paper Mario series hits the hardest, especially with how long the connections between the characters were throughout most of the games. The music is always something hard to forget too.

    Nothing in this series is more sad than the existence of Bob-ombs and Bullet Bills.
    One exists only to inevitably explode and die, the other exists to be shot out of a cannon until it either gets mercilessly bounced off of by Mario or hits a wall and dies.
    Truly tragic, between that and all the Goombas, Koopas and variety of other creatures Mario killed it’s no wonder the Mario universe has a ghost infestation problem.

    In future Mario games, I believe the saddest moment will be Bowser betraying Mario. I feel like the reason Bowser is partners with Mario sometimes is that he’s using him to fight other villains by watching their patterns and then taking all the power for himself. Bowser is pretty much indeed a pure evil villain even if some on villains wiki think the complete opposite.

    I don't see that Geno scene as sad. It's not like he died or anything. His work is done, and now he's returning home to resume protecting the world from future threats.
    One sad moment that you missed was in Minion Quest, from the Superstar Saga remake. There's a scene where Captain Goomba encounters "Rookie" in the Chucklehuck woods, and recognizes him as Master Bowser, but his memory is completely gone. The more Captain Goomba begs him to remember his old life, the more Bowser gets angry and burns him to a crisp. Captain Goomba remained knocked out on the ground, not because he was hurt from the intense burning, but because he had fallen into despair and he was crying the whole time. Only through the support of Shy Guy and Boo was he able to get his act back together and resume his mission.

  • @patrickmartin6449
    @patrickmartin6449 Год назад +2

    There is no argument here. Rosalina's story is truly the most captivating, both in terms of its sadness and hopelessness. The one part where it really hits me the most is when she says that she never really believed that her mother wasn't really 'in the sky' like she said. She knew instantly what her mother meant when she saw her in her dream. It would be hard for a child to understand this because an innocent child would think, "What's so sad about your mother sleeping underneath a tree? You could just go home some day and then you'll see her again when she's awake?"
    A child's innocence can be so beautiful and sometimes so tear-inducing because they don't understand what's happening around them and because we're adults and once we lose that, we can never truly get it back again. When Rosalina says that one phrase about not being able to see her mother again because she's asleep underneath the tree on the hill, we understand immediately what it means, which is that her mother passed away while she was gone and has been buried up on the hill by the tree, hence the phrase "sleeping under the tree." This is what makes me so sad about this and it even brought me to tears and I'm not too afraid or too proud to admit that because how could you be since Rosalina's just a child in this story. She deserves all the happiness she gets, and I hope she gets to be with her family again.

    Even the endings of Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. Wii make me misty eyed. Proof that anything can be emotional, even when the main protagonist is a little plumber with a red cap. It's enough to make a grown man cry, and that's okay.
