Indeed. When childhood every kid wants to be like batman and in adulthood we understand what the joker says is the reality and Batman is just a fantasy.
Wukon and Bull king are swore brother in past time in JTTW , they faught celestial together but failed. After that Wukon has took the punishment and be bodygaurd for his master . Once time on the journey they wanted to pass the Mountain of Flames and Wukon want borrow the magic fan to cease fire from Bull king's wife and got refused , so he faught with Bull king but can't win , and Wukon seak help from celestial and finally defeated Bull king. Time to game begining , Bull king with other yaoguai king (1-4 Chapter final boss) and celestial army finally defeat Wukon , but when Bull king heard Wukon said " you never make the good choice..." Bull king has realize they are just the celestial's chess, no more.
One more minor detail - Bull made the wrong decision every time because at his young age he first helped Wukong fighting against celestial and got defeated and punished, at middle age he chose to remain as a local boss got defeated again by Wukong (and that’s when Wukong whispering they need to follow the rules, well this is narrated by the game not the original JTTW), and at his late ages he chose to kneel before celestial for his family and eventually realize he literally figured everything wrong
The kid riding on the fire wheels, Nezha, is yet another great story, worthy of another Black Myth game. He joined the Celestial Court though, because his father was high up in the pecking order. Monkey was born in the wilderness and was a rebel through and through.
1st cycle: Wukong and Bull King are 2 great sages, they rebelled against the heaven and failed. Wukong was buried for 500 years under the mountain and the Bull King hidden away 2nd cycle: Wukong got the headband placed on his head, submitted to the Celestial Court and followed their teachings, he fought Bull King when they met again (this happened during the Journey to the West) Bull King and his family was then [unished , he got mad, went against the celestial court and only then was *narrowly* defeated by Heavenly King Li (Li Jing, Nezha's father), Nezha (Third Lotus Prince, rides the flaming wheels), and Wukong combined with the army of Celestial Court. 3rd cycle: Bull King now submitted and followed the Celestial Court, Wukong then tried to get rid of the headband and rebelled against the Celestial Courts and defeated, resulting his body got turned into 6 relics (to prevent his reincarnation) and given to those who helped defeated him (main bossed in Black Myth: Wukong).
Ok here are some background lore about the Bull King and Sun Wukong. At the very beginning of JTTW, they were both born yao guais, and they were also sworn brothers (along with 5 other yao guais). They rebelled against the Celestial Court as seen at 2:00, however they failed and Wukong was jailed by the Buddha (because the executioners can't figure out a way to kill him, he was already immortal at that point), and the Bull King surrendered, the Celestial Court sent the Bull King as well as Rakshasi to guard the Flaming Mountains. 500 years later, Wukong was released from his imprisonment and was offered pardon as long as he could escort the Tang Monk to retrieve the Scripture from the west (JTTW lore). They went by the Flaming Mountains and battled against the Bull King so they could pass - no they were not the bad guys (neither was the Bull, 5:10). Wukong was basically saying "hey, the only way we yao guais can redeem ourselves in the eyes of the Celestial Court, is to find a master and serve the right cause, hoping to ascend to godship". He was hoping the Bull could understand why - who didn't and thought Wukong betrayed him. Turns out yao guais are always gonna be yao guais in the eyes of the Celestial Court, and that was why Wukong plotted with Erlang to dissipate his essence after his death, so he could come back in the body of the Destined One, and continue their rebellion.
Ps:wukong choose to die and rebirth as "destined one" because it's the only way to get rid of the "jingu hoop”(which was used to control him) In setting, it is extremely difficult to kill wukong, and bullking(yes, his head was cut off dozens of times before he surrender).
5:45 And that was the beginning of this game, the Bull King (along with the other bosses of the game) took part in defeating Wukong's rebellion, but here, the Bull FINALLY came to his senses and saw Wukong's plan. He heeded Wukong's last words.
The story is purely politics fighting among immortals. If you are strong, you need to be side with someone stronger. If you choose to be independent, the strong consider you are potential threat and will eliminate you. Like today politics as well. All the small countries are side with stronger country. The destined one would unite most of countries and prosperities together and enjoy mutual benefit rather than on the menu or on the table. LOL
What happen in timeline, from this game’s set up, wukong and bull king were bro fight against the high ones (failed tho), then when it comes to Journey to the west, wukong chose to serve the Buddha and help detaining bull king (head chopped but not dead). After the journey, wukong found the dirty truth behind of high ones keeping their immortality and decided to give up everything but going back to his mountain. The west (Buddha) and the east (celestial court) doesn’t want someone knowing the secret goes out of their control so want to take wukong back, that’s what you see in the opening intro. When they eliminate wukong, those boss were participated and granted the relic.
The jade fox is the concubine or mistress of bull king, the Rakshasa lady(fan lady, red boy's mother) is the legit wife, they are seperated/estranged for the time being.
The young boy riding on wind-fire wheels who beheaded the Bull Demon King is called Nezha. He is also dissatisfied with the Heavenly Court and might become your ally in the DLC. In the Journey to the West setting, the Bull Demon King is immortal, so cutting off his head only causes him pain but doesn't actually kill him. In the original story, he had his head cut off over ten times before he finally surrendered.
Niu Mo has two wives. The first one is the woman who protected her son without authorization at the end of the game. She gave birth to the boss of this level, Red Boy. Niu Mo's second wife is the fox killed by Bajie. Everyone didn't understand that the fox in the game is her and Niu Mo's daughter. The last video playback is Bajie telling Niu Mo that he killed Niu Mo's second wife. That is the mother of the little fox in the game.

After The Journey to the West, the real reason Sun Wukong did such a Journey, was to become high power in the Celestial Court to free the demons from the court's merits, but the Celestial Court did not wish to do so, so Sun Wukong wanted to live peacefully with his people instead and the Celestial Court could not allow this. Not knowing any of this, the demon kings betrayed Wukong and got him killed turning his body parts into relics which is why Sun Wukong said "Steer clear of my remains..." knowing it will corrupt them with power due to him being a buddha. The Bull King refused his son's request and was attacked by The Red Boy, hints why he was on the mountain hurt.
