Rapid Transit (a.k.a. Leipzig S-Bahn) Review ~ Train Sim World 3

  • This is my two cents on Rapid Transit; the oldest German route in TSW. It's focused solely on commuter services over a linear 44 mile-long section of the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland network (Markkleeberg-Gaschwitz to Dessau Hauptbahnhof, with no branches whatsoever).
Unfortunately, the route is very empty and lifeless because only four S-Bahn services are represented, and it only includes the 3-car variant of the BR1442 'Talent 2' (when there also needs to be four and five-car variants present). The Deutsche Bahn BR182 and Doppelstockwagen coaches do improve the railscene a little bit, but not by much. There are no freight, regional or intercity trains present on this route in-game; it's S-Bahn only.

Sim rail is the best train sim out there currently in my opinion

The worst part of this DLC, at least in my opinion, is that they didn't add the branch to L. Stöttteritz (which is only two stops away from Leipzig MDR) and that they didn't add the branch between L. Hauptbahnof and L. Miltitzer Allee. Including these two braches would have completed 3 whole Lines! The S4 from Stötteritz to Mititzer Allee, The S10 from Messe to Miltitzer Allee and the S2 from Stötteritz to Dessau.

A merger of Rapid Transit with Dresden-Riesa and an extension to Halle-Nietleben (S3) would bring so much life to this route. Adding the very short S47 line, the Airport branch (S5/S5X), the S1/S10 branch to Miltitzer Allee, and the branch to Geithain (S6) could go a long way.
Knowing DTG, this will happen in 10 years at best, most likely never. It‘s been six years and after all, the most important railway hub in Germany is still not represented in TSW, despite it being mentioned in several routes.

I'm pretty sure dra and rapid transit in tsw don't share a common station. Plus mergers have many technical challenges

It would also be nice to get S3 between Leipzig and Halle, S2 to Jüterbog, and the S8 on its route to Halle, with full Leipzig Hbf and Talent 2 formations to boot

@@potatoman451 Yeah, DTG would need to build a 66-kilometer (41 mi.) link between Riesa and Leipzig Hbf and remodel the latter station, then re-release the merged routes as a new route with discounts available for those who already owned at least one of the routes.
It is not impossible. Dovetail Games already reused assets from NEC: New York and re-released them in NEC: New York - Trenton (Newark Liberty International Airport to Penn Station (+ Sunnyside Yard) and extended the route southward, while cutting out the section to New Rochelle.
Other routes they could merge would be Rhein-Ruhr-Osten and Rhein-Sieg-Nord (both end and start at Hagen Hbf), Kassel-Würzburg and Main-Spessart-Bahn, LIRR and NEC: New York - Trenton (both terminate at Penn Station) and the Brighton Main Line and the East Coastway Line (both terminate in Brighton).

For TSW4, DTG went on field trips this year to get sound recordings from the actual locomotives except for Austria (where they were purportedly denied on-site access). They just uploaded the dev diary on their RUclips channel.

Very interesting review! The route obviously shows it’s age… the train kinda feels a bit old even with the improved sounds and added PIS. But you also have to give them credit for revamping the timetable and adding all the PIS screens, that was very nice to see. The route is quite unique with its tunnel section. I think the stations are among the best in the entire game, they clearly put a lot of thought into the smaller stops compared to the repetitive and barebones stations in recent releases. The scenery is also not too bad… I kinda love the brighter grass and forest color they went for compared to other, darker routes. All in all I definitely think the route has held up quite well considering its age.

I think my main takeaway from TSW 4 is the new Free Roam mode where you could instantly spawn any train from your collection onto any favourite route (which doesn't suck due to laziness or bugs) that you also currently own. This is quite possibly the real game changer in TSW so far where you no longer have to stick with DTG's route and train decisions. Other than the often questionable length of a truncated route that is.

I got this route for free when DTG were giving out the old dlcs during the transition from tsw2020 to tsw2. It’s not really an interesting route in my opinion.
Also at 1:25 a passenger was falling onto the platform before disappearing. Another bug that won't get fixed when tsw4 comes out

I noticed the glitching NPCs too, and I wanted to show that bug in the video as an example of the sort of thing Dovetail refuses to fix.

7:17 Did anyone else notice that the very front door just didn't close?! I want to see the kind of quality control at DTG (if there even is any)

8:19 never saw that, but it looks downright horrendous. Also you didn't point out the several sections of missing OHLE (at about 8:17 on the left, near Markleeburg Nord and lots of others) and also terrible looking level crossings. But great review overall!

    • @TheTrainspotterFromTauranga
      @TheTrainspotterFromTauranga  10 месяцев назад +3

I simply didn't notice any missing OHLE when I was making the review. But it doesn't surprise me; this is Dovetail after all. As for the poor crossings, I did notice one of them but didn't think to mention it.

I pirated TSW (no way I'm paying for it), and I actually like the S2. No idea why. I just sort of do.

Honestly i got this route because i got 2020 collectors edition i tried it once and hated it. the Talent is really annoying to drive since it barely wants to stop. I don't mind the route but the talent needs to be redone. I have no issues with the talent on other routes but this one seems like it uses ice for brakes.

Well, I agree, not bad, nor good, could be better. It has aged a bit better than Great Western Express at least. Why they didn't update the 1442 sounds when they did Köln-Aachen is beyond me. DTG did go to the effort of giving the Dispolok 182 new more realistic sounds.

Even if the Sound is completely wrong, i do like it actually more than the sound from the newer models.

The thing I REALLY hate is: I have a PS4 and have to buy a PS5 for TSW4 since I have the most of dlcs there and not on PC. (I know TSW4 on ps4 would be dissapointing for graphics) Also, to have more dlcs on the game I CANT BUY THEM SINCE THEY'RE ONLY FOR TSW4 AND HAVE TO GET THE TSW4 CORE GAME. I think DTG could do that tsw4 routes can fit for tsw3 but without all that graphics (like I play tsw3 on ps4 like tsw2)....

Constructive criticism is not the same thing as complaining, and this game doesn't have critical immunity. I'm a paying customer reviewing a product I bought, regardless of whether or not it's virtual.
