A tip if you play train sim world (now TSW 2020) Only buy DLC's when they are on-sale.
Great review Mike. And I do agree with you. But like you said, the issue is the lack of competition. There is Run 8, but as far as I know, it only has American stuff. The thing is, I have no doubt that a lot of people involved with TSW really put their hearts into it. My guess is that the upper suits are the main reason for DTG's state. I could be wrong, but that's just my guess.
I agree with you. TSW devs are super talented and passionate, that I believe fully.
This dlc is free anyway (when you get the game on steam or with Xbox game pass)
500 miles have you any idea how long that would take then to create all the track side assets... i work in 3d... over a year a least.
If you like German trains, and don't care about graphics too much, check out Zusi 3. Frankly a mixed breed between that and TSW would probably be the last trainsim to release for a very long time. (or until the devs get complacent)

You're bang on man, we've tried sharing our thoughts but they're not interested. It does seem right though CSX heavy haul has an actual sit down animation whereas all the others are basic. I've stopped buying TSW addons as I dont think there is a base game, nd just like Fernbus Simulator it seems UE4 is too complex for these devs who have cut corners for years, Just Trains latest addon for TS2019 seems to be good but no one reviews these games anymore. It seems Euro Truck Simulator is better than all along with OMSI.

That was an honest and well talked about review. They have promised us many things that are coming to Train Sim World, i was disappointed that in the latest release of TSW 2020 that no Dev was added, something promised sometime ago that would be coming soon, that was about 8 months ago. I agree i expected routes to be longer with the new engine but it's just the same as Train simulator classic, again disappointed in Dovetail, will they ever learn?

After playing for a month I think it is worth $10 at the most.. Dovetail will nickle and dime people to death. To bad Microsoft gave up on it's train sim and flightsim X sims.

How many trains do you get from the standard game without any DLCs?
Depends in the platform and any offers on at the time.
Originally CSX had 3, butyou tend to get 1-3 with each dlc.

I don't own TSW as of yet. Perhaps I will someday but I'm willing to wait to see what Unreal/DT does with steam DLC, but to be honest, I am less hopeful than I was only a year ago. One thing I have noticed quite clearly is the degeneration of the backround scenery to almost a TS level on recent releases over the past year. I own and quite enjoy TS19, not because of DT's work on scenarios it offers, but because of all the hard work that the Workshop community do to enhance the game as much as is possible. I was almost sucked in with CSX Heavy Haul and I think you are right when you allude that it appears to be almost a different sim from almost everything that followed. What is happening with TSW is the same thing that happened with TS and almost every game there is and that is, they have no intention of giving you everything you want in this release. There will be a TWS2028 as sure as I'm standing here. They got to get their moneys worth out of Unnreal and they will and then some. Very good review, certainly food for thought.
If DTG were complacent with the lack of competition you wouldn’t be playing TSW. It wouldn’t of been developed.
I came to the conclusion that DTG are rip off merchants a long time ago. Very good review. I would love to be able to drive along my local train service, London Midland Crew to Euston which stops at my hometown Stone. Not a chance with DTG.
All good points really. But it makes me wonder, what would be the price point and cost involved to actually make this happen correctly? Considering all the modeling time, etc.? How much would a proper, complete train interface cost? I know this has been an issue with flight simulators as well but there is some benefit as you can abstract detail and LODs at high altitudes.
Well quite, but then let's have them supply extensions to pre-existing routes and allow US to expand OUR experience, 50k is not a lot at 150kph lol.
Don't get me wrong, TSW is an incredible achievement, but allow the core game to improve & don't segregate improvements into pockets of good/bad DLC's.
That is what they did with TS, rather than ALL TS experiences getting better, there are good & bad DLC's depending on the amount of effort and skill of each DLC design.
Wow, how many years did it take to realize what DTG is doing ? :) Train sim has been like this since 2012. Stop buying and when money go short, they may realize that they actually need to put work in their products. I could care less about change scenarios or drive trains that mostly look the same, if what I get is a repetitive iterative update for almost full price.
Catenary accurancy is awful. This simulator is too expensive to what it offers.

Yu can buy the collectors edition for £17 on cdkeys its way more expensive on steam a right bargin.
This is funny I went off the train found a trail to nowhere lol. I found tracks to nowhere. I found a wheel barrel in the middle of no where what's the point.. I found like a small area where they grow plants hidden out of sight of everybody. I could walk threw some areas others I can't. WHY! And why you can't walk into the towns. I found train gates down and ding ding ding and no train anywhere. WTH. And the people are still robots and say nothing. And you still have to get off the train and wave bye bye to it after only 25 miles.. I was pissed off. I wish I had a gun from BF5 I would shoot the bugger for taking my train. You really can't go on other tracks and explore.... I also wish that it connected to my other German DLC but that would be the right thing to do but being Dovetail they seem not to think in the normal way. It's like throw it out there and will see what happens. We need 100 + miles of track Dovetail wake the hell up. Dovetail must just think about money they sure don't care about there game. If they did they would go back and fix problems that other maps have. I never see updates like my other games get.. This company sucks.

SimUK I agree with you. I bought this because I got 20€ from a giveaway to see if they have redeemed themselves somewhat seeing how their gaming community is dropping. But it's too late for them. They are just sucking people of cash and not actually bothering to improve their products. Remember CSX HH? Yeah, me neither. I keep going back because I love American muscle trains and their loud roaring engines but it's FULL of bugs. And I'm talking lots and lots. But they're never fixing them. So screw TSW and DTG. It's been nice, but never again.

I think Microsoft’s work with Asobo studios to create Flight Sim is a big middle finger to the shambles that is TSW, its not crap but where are DTGs priorities, their focus is clearly not the community but somewhere else.
So if you like me are astounded at FSX 2020, and Microsoft’s return to backing simulation is probably down to DTG and others releasing half arsed games and calling it Simulation.

I wouldnt call TSW a simulator beacuse it has almost no Real physics inside. Most sims have this one thing in common that their graphics suck beacuse they are mostly fan made but in terms of physics they are almost 100% accurate. Dovateil didnt release anything new from US freight since beginning with CSX HH and the reason is they dont know how to model modern AC-DC-AC diesel locos. Air and dynamic brakes physics are non existant. This is just arcade game for kids. They fkd up badly thinking that WE want arcade game and in fact everyone wants most realistic simulator. I can Invest 2h of my life in learning new loco. This is the reason why this game Will die soon. No chalange at all, Just boooring driving same routes 200 times..
Wow, was thinking of getting TSW while on sale, but after watching this, i don't think i will. Seems like TS milking joke all over again.

How is that in ANY WAY offensive? In India (having never been but basing this on Indian Railway Documentaries) this is EXACTLY how trains in India run, arrives on Thursday is not a schedule.

No, that is not what I am saying.
I suggest we ALL make it clear to DTG that unless the DLC's they release enhances the core game in a direction you want, then don't buy the DLC.
If they release a steam Loco...I'll prob buy it before you do, because that is what I desperately want to see...so support DTG and TSW and make it clear that was a good choice.
If they release another route, that does not link up with an existing route, and some of the locos are copied from a previous DLC, then that I would recommend you not to buy...unless `you` specifically want that DLC/loco whatever.
If we don't start doing this (and many people already have) we will have another TS on our hands and IMHO TSW is far too good to let that happen again.
This is just my opinion, I am not telling you what to do, just suggesting a possible solution.
Dovetail stinks.. The routes are way to short.. I wish Microsoft would make a train sim..
Checkout Playways new Train Sim...Prob not exactly what we want, but interesting none the less.
