The ride was getting shut down all day long. I'd call that a fail. It sucks to get to the front of the line and have it shut down for the rest of the day, which is exactly what happened after this.
It's a rollback. All intamin launch coasters do this from time to time. It's normal operations. The coasters are designed with a launch cable. The train sits ontop basically a huge weight scale. The computer on the ride then takes the weight of the train, calibrates how much thrust is needed to launch the train depending on how heavy the train is then executes the launch. But sometimes, the computer in the lack of a better pharse, " glitches up" and doesn't calibrate correctly. Hence you get a rollback. The train then falls back to the launch track section and the computer just restarts all over again to get it going right.
@@coastersaga I mean. Maybe. That coaster is an LIM launch system though. Different system than Accelerator. It's possible that with LIMs that sometimes not all of the LIMs fire and you may get a rollback. A good example of this would be the older Premier coasters like MR Freeze models or the Poltergeist model where they use LIM system for the launch and sometimes, often rare. The LIMs don't fire correctly and not enough power is giving so at some point on the ride you get a rollback/ stuck somewhere on the coaster.
lol not this one the only coaster you get a free launch after a rollback is dragster on kingda ka and this ride they will make everyone go in line and a few test runs will happen before it reopens again
TRUTH: This was a day where the park did this on every ride. If you weren't there, you missed the biggest rollback day in history. Walmart was the sponsor.
That would actually be really cool. For one day, (maybe the last day of the season), make it so that the ride is guaranteed to rollback every other time so you have a guaranteed roll back
This is called a rollback. It’s very fun and you get a free second ride without waiting in line again if it happens to you. Have you ever noticed that these kinds of coasters always have silver plates coming up on the launch track after a launch? Those are brakes that are there specifically for rollbacks, so yes, it’s safe. This happens when a heavy train launches, it has to go slower, because since it is heavier it has more momentum. With more momentum, friction is gonna have a harder time slowing the train down so it will go over the top hat easier, so it doesn’t need as much speed. So, heavy train launches, the computer is adjusted to this slower speed, but the next train is loaded with lighter riders. So it launches the lighter train while calibrated for the slower speed of a heavier train. Since the train is now lighter, it has less momentum, so friction slows it down easier, so the train is slowed down more and consequently doesn’t make it over the top hat. The computer will know it didn’t make it over, then launch it again but faster so it makes it over.
This is very safe. Rollbacks are very uncommon but they’re very good for the riders especially how you go over the top hat twice. Ride manufacturers keep this in mind and place magnetic brakes on the launch track to prevent any sort of collision between two trains. Then again, this is very uncommon, safe, and a very interesting topic.
not just hydraulic launch coasters, all launch coasters, even Wicked at Lagoon has rollbacks on occasion, and they have it so that you're launching up the tophat
Many have commented on how this isn’t a fail, but the video title said the ride car failed to clear the top hat, which is true. The title doesn’t imply that there was a failure in the ride system.
It's called a roll back and is normal. Basically (at least for Xcelerator's bigger siblings, KingdaKa and Top Thrill Dragster) the launch mechanism weighs the train every few launches to guess the right amount to launch so that the top hat (the hill with vertical sides) is taken at a speed where the train slowly crests it. Sometimes, it calculates wrong and under-launches. On Top Thrill and KingdaKa, enthusiasts consider this winning the lottery (because you end up getting 2 launches for 1 wait in line), and the ride computer just does the launch again with a tiny bit more oomph. The riders were never in danger due to a system (used on ALL coasters) known as a 'block system'. The track is split into 'blocks' and only 1 train is allowed in any given block. The train on the brakes isn't allowed to enter the station block until after the ride computer knows the train in the station has cleared the top hat (launch block). For those wondering, most injury stats in the US show FAR more people getting seriously hurt by folding chairs or non-powered lawn equipment (like rakes) than amusement rides (even portable ones).
