You are right my friend, traveling is very adventurous and relaxing at the same time but also quite expensive, if not for the help of my financial advisor mr. Tom Lawson, I don’t think I would have been able to finance most of my relaxing vacations.
Hello everyone, I’m a travel enthusiast myself, I got attracted to the first comment, I was surprised when I realized that the replies I was seeing was about Tom Lawson, this guy deserves some praise, he is really good at what he does.
Taiwanese here! First of all, thanks for the amazing videoes as always Mark, it's a pleasure to see you enjoy our culture and food! Since I'm currently studying in Taichung, the city Mark takes the HSR (high speed railway, 高鐵) to, here's some info for those who might wanna visit in the future. As Mark mentioned, it took him an hour to go from Taipei to Taichung, and that's because he took the HSR, not ordinary train (also known as Taiwan Railway,台鐵). Think of HSR as shinkansen in Japan! It's a lot faster, the space overall is comfier than train, but the fee is understandably higher. HSR from TP to Taichung costs about 23 USD and takes only 1hour, while normal train costs around 13 USD and needs 2~2.5 hours to arrive. There are different types of trains tho, and some of them are faster. Most importantly, the railway bento (台鐵便當)! You can basically find them in most of the train stations and HSR stations, and I recommend you to try it if you have the chance. Yes it doesnt come in wide varieties but the price is reasonable, and the quality and taste are also often prasied upon! Even in Taiwan, it's hard to find freshly made bento with meat for just 2USD these days :) Lastly, as Mark mentioned, the Taichung HSR station (where he is at the end of the video) seems quite far away from downtown, and that's correct! The thing about Taichung is that both the airport and HSR station are located in the suburbs, so take this into consideration if you're going to take HSR/plane to come here. But the Taichung train station, for ordinary train, is at the center of downtown area, as well as the highway bus station :D
Mark, now we're talking! This is the best part of taking the train (best is the slow train as it gives you more time to enjoy the meal) in Taiwan. I even go to the train station to pick up a pork chop lunch box as my 6 year old loves the lunch boxes (for regular dinner without taking the train). Keep up the good work in sharing the world with us.
@@artfquinn Taiwan is a democratic country. Taiwan has its own President, democratic government and military (Does China has F-16 or Mirage 2000? Hahahah……😂)…, etc. Therefore, unless you are blind, it’s simply easy to see that Taiwan is a country.
If it is then there's no need to EMPHASIZE. Whether Taiwan is a country or not depends on how you view history and how you think historical events should be treated.
PLA has never set foot on Taiwan. This is PROOF that Taiwan is separate & independent from the PRC. PRC has never ruled, governed or even gone to Taiwan.
Loved this series. Taiwan is awesome and good to see you heading to some different places from the usual Shilin content. There are still tons of other places though that could be covered and have dishes that are unique to those specific towns. The bento brings back some great old memories.
The Railway Bento is basic but very affordable. The flavor of the braised pork chop is very unique, many try to replicate the taste but are not very successful. The Hgh Speed Rail company has their own bentos too, slightly expensive and more delicate. They are also delicious but not as famous as the Railway Bento. Just like Mark said, it's because of the nostalgic feelings that last several decades.
There are definitely tastier and more ingredient-filled bento boxes at Taipei Main, but the reason why these bento boxes still survive is because of the nostalgia - they remind people, especially the older generation, of traditional, simpler times. That plus they are cheap, consistent in terms of the flavour and convenient to attain, things that Taiwanese always enjoy. Hope there are more Taiwan videos coming, I love Taiwan!
As a Taiwanese, I can confirm the bento in the beginning of the video is the best one out of all the options. My family often go to the train station and buy them for lunch. We don't even travel that much XD
Loved how you described the bento with one word "comfort." Because it's what the bento box should taste like! I believe us Taiwanese would also say it is. 🥰
Watching this I feel missing Taiwan been working there for 15 years .I am greatful when I was there I visited a lot of places Taichung is one of beautiful city
Mark, thank you so much for showcase the great foods from my country. Railway Bentos and Taiwanese street food are the most affordable fresh foods that we can get. Besides that every time I watch your videos in regards to Taiwan it just makes me really hungry and reminds me how much I've miss my home country. One thing that I want to share with you is that my grandfather worked as a conductor for the Taiwanese Railway for over 30 years. We used to ride with him during his shift where we get free rides and free food from his train. So I truly miss it as well as miss him. Thank you again for doing this series and do keep this series coming.
Mike around food ...Awesomeness incoming!!! Could you do a video on the logistics of your travels? How you pack, why u pack what u pack, How do you plan your itineraries? Would be fun to know... Thank You for bringing all these awesome cuisines and cultures to us ...Simply love it!
Sau khi đọc bình luận của tôi rất thích những ý kiến mà anh nêu ra. Nó thật sự cần thiết cho chúng ta khi bất đầu một chuyến du lịch. Nice too meet you.
thank you for introducing all the yummy food from all over the world !!! enjoy your contents super much every time !!!! Welcome to Taiwan and showing all the yummy food from TAIWAN !!!!
This is a childhood core memory for my brother and I! When we visited the grandparents for new years from Taipei to Hualien, the train bento box has always been something we looked forward to on the trips. And some string dried squid snacks from the carts
Mark has an insatiable craving for the intense heat and bold flavor of Ghost Peppers. While Taiwan's cuisine is traditionally known for its mild taste, Mark's taste buds demand something more daring and fiery. He finds pleasure in adding Ghost Pepper to his meals, savoring every spicy bite that sets his mouth ablaze. For Mark, there's no such thing as "too hot" when it comes to food, and the Ghost Pepper is the perfect complement to Taiwan's already delicious cuisine. 😄😄👍👍
Mark, it is such a thrill to share your enthusiasm of the different food styles and cultures, I envy you for being able to experience these dishes and be with family!!
If you buy lunch boxes at different train stations, you'll notice that the taste is different. There are 6 Taiwan Railway restaurants in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Qidu, Hualien and Taitung. Personally, I think the pork chop lunch box from Qidu is the most delicious. Occasionally, Hualien and Taitung will introduce locally limited lunch box flavors.
The New York Times has published a commentary titled "The Most Important Place in the World: Taiwan," which points out that with a population of only 24 million, Taiwan is the center of the global technology hegemony competition, and "in terms of influence, it is the most important place in the world." 🇹🇼🇹🇼🇹🇼
While watching you eat those delicious Taiwanese Bentos Mark, I can't help but wonder just how much you must be craving for cut chillis or chilli oil with fried chillis to go with that.. lol!
How are you today Mark Wiens 😊 and I am Zack from Malaysia and I really like the video today and pls keep up the good work with the videos and I want to know how often do you drink alcohol 🍷
To everyone who sees this comment, keep pushing in life and never give up. Can't wait to see you successful one day and May God bless you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

The fact that we get free food & travel videos by Mark on RUclips is priceless. 👏👏👏
There’s nothing sweeter than being able to afford the luxury of traveling to different locations as enchanting and beautiful as Taiwan 🇹🇼
You are right my friend, traveling is very adventurous and relaxing at the same time but also quite expensive, if not for the help of my financial advisor mr. Tom Lawson, I don’t think I would have been able to finance most of my relaxing vacations.
Permit me for interrupting, are we talking about the same Tom Lawson who is based in California, the forex trader and investment expert?
That’s the same guy, I have been investing with him for the past 2 years and I must confess that he has been the best financial decision I have made.
I agree with you, mr. Tom Lawson is quite the guy, I was able to make over $20,000 on trading crypto with his help.
Hello everyone, I’m a travel enthusiast myself, I got attracted to the first comment, I was surprised when I realized that the replies I was seeing was about Tom Lawson, this guy deserves some praise, he is really good at what he does.
OMG. That is so an authentic Taiwanese bento box. Last time I tried was like 20+ years ago. I miss it. Thank you for brining the memory back.

These videos are so comforting
I love the railway bento boxes cause they are so affordable! And they are either hot or warm.
you've nailed it. It's very simple and comforting and you certainly know how to appreciate it.

seasoned stir fry cabbage over rice and a fry chicken or pork chops has always been a good staple in the asian house hold..
Fascinating video from a food traveler! Must say some of us without chopsticks skill would have more of a test....!
In Taiwan we say the rail road company’s main business is the bento, transportation comes in second.
❤miss living in Taiwan thanks for the video brought back great memories.
porkchop rice is one of my dad's favorite Taiwan dishes.
That's truly amazing bento!
Loving the shorter format, perfect length for a snack and quick break from work!
Mark, it is such a thrill to share your enthusiasm of the different food styles and cultures, I envy you for being able to experience these dishes and be with family!!
I hope you have time to visit Chiayi for their fish head soup and Turkey rice. It looks so delicious!

The pork chops are indeed fried once, and then stewed in the sauce pot.
Mark, when you at the TaoYuan airport, try the braised pork belly at the Homee Kitchen. I get that everytime when I go to Taiwan.
