    Hey!
    Thanks for this video. I just got a Mac Mini about 7 days ago, and I need something with a card reader, and I wanted some more ports. This is great. I just ordered one based on your review. Can't wait to get it going.

      Hey Mark!
      Thank you for liking the video.
      It's awesome that you ordered one of this one. I actually have another Qwiizlab HUB for review coming in a few weeks. It's the UH25 Max, I think you will also like it.

      I am thinking about getting one of this for my MaMini Intel 2018. How fast is the NVMe on the hub ? I've seen many videos about and it seems it can give anything between 300 and 800 MB/s. Have you experienced espontaneus drive ejects (this is a common problem with other hubs).

      @@TerryHenderson That's awesome!! Did you know there is a hub like these from the guys of TREBLEET that uses a TB bus, so you can get up to 2.500 MB/s from NVMe drive ? Of course, it costs 300$ but I am wondering about if its better to go first with this one and then upgrade to the Trebleet later on, or just wait 3-4 months more and gather the money to get the Trebleet right away.... I mean, I am a programmer and an amateur musician; I don't do 4K video rendering or professional photo editing, so I think that a 800 MB/s SSD is more than enough for what I do so it could make no sense to expend that 200$ extra bucks just to get a faster drive, right ?

  • @bstevens9831
    @bstevens9831 Год назад +1

    Since it's not powered, I'm thinking two SSDs in the hub will reduce its front ports effectiveness; heat dissipation with two drives might be an issue too( general thermals - no heat sink case - maybe elevate the unit for more air flow? - look flimsy ). Plus, it's not clear if the connection to the mini will be damaged in the process. Otherwise, form-factor, convenience and price are good. Thank you for taking the time to make the video!

    Just copped this a while ago.
    Using it with a 2TB NVMe and 1TB SSD installed, running it off a power brick.
    Works like a charm.
    BTW, it's best to use a separate power source when running drives in it; the Mini doesn't really have much power going through the USB-C port on the back to fully handle this if you have 2X drives along with any other peripherals attached. You could possibly fry that port.

    • @lcadigitalmedia
      @lcadigitalmedia  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I realized that a week after recording and using it, it's better plugged in separately to the wall than in the same computer.

    Considering it uses one of the thunderbolt ports from the mini to connect this to the mini itself and this only has one USB-C front plug. There is no gain in USB-C ports as I am seeing it. Correct?
    Also, is this USB-C as fast as the thunderbolt port?

    • @lcadigitalmedia
      @lcadigitalmedia  13 дней назад +1

      Hey, you are correct but you aren't buying this for the USB-C Port. This is for people who still has most of their devices with USB-A since Apple has moved to all USB-C, there is an issue and a gap with USB-A Devices.

      It depends on your use case, if you need better performance and if budget isn't a problem, then the OWC is better; and as you mention, warranty is also a big thing, so I would normally go with better warranty for peace of mind, especially when the price is difference is negligible.
      So yeah, if you can swing more on your budget, then I'd get the OWC in that case. I'd consider this if budget may be limited.

      @@pawelfiedorczuk get a hub that's externally powered if you put a drive in it it draws to much power and ends up wrecking your minis USB out port. It's happening alot USB ports only have a small amount of power a hub with an SSD in it and anything else is going to overload it eventually causing damage it can only put out 1 amp of power some SSD drivers themselves draw more than thism so powered hubs. The drive will also then be a bit more consistent speed wise do a hunt for RUclips videos showing this. It is not nice to loose one of your ports. We learn the hard way.
