One thing I love about the film is how open-ended it is. We the audience have no idea if Louis chose to become a vampire or not. At the beginning of the film, it certainly seemed that way because when Lestat introduced himself as a vampire all Louis seemed to care about was the immortality portion of being a vampire. It is only when Lestat portrays the negative of being immortal such as loneliness, having to kill, etc that gives him pause. However, Lestat also portrays the positive aspects of a vampire to balance out the negative such as witnessing the ages, and new inventions which allowed him to witness the sun on the big screen after centuries. So now we don't know what choice he's going to make. I have a prediction I think Louis is going to choose immortality since no-one really wants to die. Louis is portrayed as a man with a conscience which is why I believe Lestat chose him out of thousands of reporters to tell his story to, so I don't see him enjoying killing. However, for a vampire to live they must eat or drink whatever term one likes to use. Lucky for Louis this is not the eighteenth century since we have blood banks all around the city and you can easily bribe someone to deliver to you several portions of blood every week. If you are not a murderer then the choice is simple. The rules state that you couldn't drink from a dead body not that you couldn't drink from fresh blood that is contained in a bag from a person who was or is alive, and as for the loneliness, you can always try to find a companion one who is already a vampire that shares your values like not killing, etc
Interview with a Vampire was my favourite book when I was 14 - and it still is. I love the depth of melancholy gloom. Also, the Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned are still pretty good - in fact I enjoyed a lot of them.
How Much Land Does a Man Need? is an incredible short story. Left me stunned. One of the best short stories I remember reading. Also, Farewell to Arms is fantastic. One of the most propulsive last 100 pages. Another ending that will leave you staring at a wall for an hour lol
I love Lady Susan by Austen, I think it's so underrated. There's a quote that's stuck with me in all the years since I've read it - "The spell is removed; I see you as you are." I sometimes just quote it dramatically to myself lmao
Not only the endings, but Hemingway had MANY possible titles before he settled on A Farewell to Arms. It’s interesting to see all the titles because they give us some ideas what might have gone through his mind while writing.
On Lestat/Vampire Chronicles: the series changes its purpose/genre after the first book. With the IWTV, Anne Rice had a particular vision & philosophical questions she was exploring from the grief of her young daughter's death. With The Vampire Lestat and the rest of the series, the series becomes a campy supernatural romp (think more 'stereotypical' gothic-y silly melodramatic stories). The rest of the series is neither good nor bad, it's just they are a different type of book than the first one. My best guess for how you Emma specifically will feel about it is that you'll like IWTV most, and not enjoy the rest of the series as much, unless you can get into the type of camp Anne Rice writes.
I'm pretty sure you will love The Vampire Lestat. I mean, he is such a great character to begin with. Don't let the Rock Star stuff put you off. It's only a small part of the book and fits in really nicely. Anyways, the book really managed to scare me, which doesn't happen often. Not a jump scare, of course, but a deep sense of dread and terror that stayed with me for quite a while. It's fantastic!
love everything Anne Rice wrote! The Mayfair Witches is epic too. Loved Queen of the Damned and loveddd that movie. When Lestat gets to modern times you may still love it!
The Vampire Lestat is definitely an experience. I started reading it a while back, but realised about a third of the way in that I need to be in a certain mindset to really take it in. I'm absolutely going to pick it back up on a day when my analytical side is a little more subdued so I can enjoy it in its entirety.
I am so excited to see that you bought a copy of Burial Rites! I really hope you love it. I stumbled upon it one day at a second hand book store and bought it having never heard anything about it. One of my most beloved 5 star reads ⭐️
I read Burial Rites earlier this year. It is very well written and treats the subject matter well. The author did a great job exploring the psychology of the characters.
Steinbeck’s east of Eden is one of my favorite books, it’s a chunky baby I know and it looks scary but you enjoy the experience of reading it so much that you barely notice its chunkiness
I went to Iceland in 2019 and loved it so much. Your Iceland vlog made me want to go back right now. I read Burial Rites and loved it. Would also recommend Butterflies in November by Audur Ava Ólafsdóttir. It is about a woman who ends up going on a road trip around Iceland with her best friend’s deaf-mute son
If you’re looking for more Steinbeck, I really liked Cannery Row and The Moon is Down. They’re quite different form each other but they’re both worth reading and they’re short and easy. The story behind The Moon is Down is really interesting too. I haven’t read his longer books but someday I’ll get around to them.
I loved burial rites, I felt cold to the marrow of my bones as I read it. Also really liked her The Good People. As an Irish person I assumed she would not be able to capture the nuances of our history, culture, traditions but she nailed it. Really atmospheric as well.
I read A Movable Feast many many years ago. I gave it five stars hands down. And I don’t give five stars that easily. I still get a warm fuzzy feeling when I think of this book. Thanks for reminding me of it. I definitely need to reread it to see if it still gives me the same feeling as it did when I first read it.
I just borrowed A Farewell to Arms from the library & the edition I got also has the alternate endings along with some original texts with the edits from Hemingway. I’m really excited to read it & look at the all the different changes he made!
Emma, i love Interview With The Vampire too, and a friend of mine said the series goes well until book 3. Loved the haul with Steinbeck, Austen, Hemingway and Tolstoy. Happy readings! 💖📚💖
Interview with The Vampire was the book that got me into reading at 15, so I was really excited to continue the series, but unfortunately, The Vampire Lestat turned out to be one of my biggest disappointments. I remember dnfing it after a few chapters and then trying to forget it existed 😂
I read the Pearl immediately followed by The Old Man and the Sea. I hadn’t thought of how well that worked out until you did this video! They both made me appreciate the universality of struggle. Oh! Btw, when you said you aren’t a big fan of historical fiction, I thought you said struggle fiction for a sec and now I really want that to be a genre.
I love The Vampire Lestat because it is character-focused, and I love following nuanced characters and the morally gray/byronic hero tropes. But, if you want something with a fast paced plot, or even a well-paced plot, you might not like it as much. I remember it being very slow in the beginning and middle, and then it really sped up toward the end, that it felt a bit like whiplash😅 But I was able to forgive this because I really loved Lestat's character
the vibes of this video emmieeeee 😍😍😍, there is currently a book festival in my home country and i also got myself a copy of northanger abbey, our minds
You can use Danilo Kiš for Serbia on your around the world chalange. His most famous work is "Early Sorrows: For Children and Sensitive readers". He really is intriguing writer and one of the best from my country 😁

Aaahh I’ve been meaning to read A Moveable Feast because I’ll be going to Paris next year and it’s a no brainer to read it before or while there. I read it all in one go a month after I moved to Paris earlier this year, sitting in a café by the Seine. I highly recommend doing the same! I hope you enjoy your time in this magnificent city!
Anne Rice's series does go downhill at some point, but there are still jems lying ahead, so no fear, Emma! I suggest you read them all and see for yourself! As for The Vampire Lestat, I absolutely loved it. It was even more unsettling and heartbreaking than Interview.❤️😉
I think that Vampire Lestat is just different than the first book it doesn’t Cary the same melancholic vibes. I think it’s an interesting story. I’m that’s what had me put the book down the first time was the beginning. But as it back tracks through his life it’s good. But still not the same richness I think from the first book.

Queen of the damned is also veyr fun, I think its worht reading all three for sure, i think its worth your time indeed
Well, I paused your vid at IWTV to see if it was on Kobo and stumbled upon Burial Rites. I read the quick preview and purchased it immediately, then returned to your vid to see it in your hand. Only coincidence I know, but still freaked me out a little. lol.
Don't worry, the rock-star thing is almost only in the beginning (maybe in the end also, but haven't reached that yet), but in between there are becoming-a-vampire stories of many vampires from different time periods. The Vampire the Lestat, it is absolutely awesome book. I like Queen of the Damned because of the Story of how the Vampire line started and Maharet and Mekare's story. Also Blackwood Farm is awesome for the story line brings in the Witches (the Mayfair Witches), the Audiobook on this one is So Good, the guy reading it is fantastic. Blood and Gold is also Great, you learn Marius Story back in Rome and Pandora is in that book as well as Lestat. Memnoch the Devil is a good read as well the story of Lestat meeting God and the Devil. Anne Rice is not for everyone, but very good reads, I have read all of hers except the Ann Rampling books, not my style. Love Lasher as well.
If you’re curious about the Vampire Chronicles, I recommend the video ranking of the books by youtuber Maven of the Eventide, who reviews (and loves) all things Vampire. She explains the ones you can skip, the order to read them and how things sort of progress (without too many spoilers) as it goes on. I think it would help you reframe your mind for the upcoming books
When I saw how much you enjoyed "How Much Land Does a Man Need?" I immediately went and bought myself a copy 😅Did not expect to like it as much as I did. The ending was funny but in a sad kind of way.
Ugggghhhh I'm so excited for you to read A Farewell to Arms! I loved it, and although it has a plot, Hemmingways stylistic choices are what had me going wild. There's so much movement in his words and it's so rare that the writing itself keeps me going more than the plot Also I ordered A Moveable Feast because of your rec in a different video! I hope we both have a good time reading hemmingway in the distant future 😄😄
From hearing you speak about Heaven and Hell and knowing how much you adore conversations and discussions about language, I think you should read Babel! Currently reading it right now and I really want to hear your opinions on it! Much love❤️
The Vampire Lestat is great, after that it's not worth it. It's the same with most of her series. The first one or two are always brilliant and then they go downhill.
Burial Rites: I listened to the audio. Morven Christy, the actress, read it. I love her. She did a fantastic job with her half of Code Name Verity. Anyway, she did a beautiful job. However, she voice was so soft and fluid that she lulled me to sleep. I loved it for sure but do beware of that. She did a really good job with the names. I thought anyway. It is a tough book though. I'm glad a picked it up. No regrets.
You may want to read The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. I read it years ago and thought it was very good. It is a series but I never continued. The 1st book has a 4.11 on Goodreads. 🖤

What I love about your book hauls is that they’re not basic tiktok books. It’s refreshing 💕
Cozy and quiet video, l love your way to talk about books .
Honey, The Vampire Lestat is literally the best book of the whole saga, I swear you won’t regret it!!!
Hemingway vs Steinbeck should be the next book club once you guys eventually finish the Tolstoy v Dickens one.
2 of my favorite writers!
I come from the future and they are doing it in January 😂
@@majorzhou6150 LOL.
Lady Susan is really great! Its her only epistolary novel but I think she executed it excellently.
The Blue Fox is one of the best books for me - so parabolic, sad and fascinating at the same time. Just love it.
Interview with a Vampire was my favourite book when I was 14 - and it still is. I love the depth of melancholy gloom. Also, the Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned are still pretty good - in fact I enjoyed a lot of them.

I love A Farewell to Arms. Hemingway’s writing is almost like music or painting to me.
I love a good BOOK HAUL! ❤ btw camera quality is so darn good!

Steinbeck and Hemingway are my favourite authors. I love the idea of reading their war books alongside one another. I might do the same!

I loved Once There Was a War! Probably my favorite nonfic Steinbeck after Travels with Charley ❤
written by levin while he was drunk is absolutely genius
I read Burial Rites earlier this year. It is very well written and treats the subject matter well. The author did a great job exploring the psychology of the characters.

It is enjoyable to see you laughing at goodreads reviews 😂 I personally don’t like reading goodreads comments. But now I’ll give it another try!
I absolutely loved this series (Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice). I read when I was 11 yo. The second book is my favorite.
This was so cozy with the lighting and the books I’ve never heard of. Loved it. ❤
The Vampire Lestat is wonderful, but I love everything Anne Rice wrote.

i studied burial rites in high school because hannah kent is an australian writer! one of the few books i loved from hs
Only the first three books in the vampire chronicles are worth reading imo… and interview is the only one that’s actually masterful.
Can’t get enough of cozy Emma 🥰
I heard that Heaven and Hell is a trilogy. I read this one before, I really don’t know about the others.
