Maybe you just picked a "wrong" local island to stay at. Other bloggers have good experience on different islands that are 1) not as far as yours, 2) more local restaurants and shops, 3) island hopping excursions. So, I guess it's important to pick the right local island to stay.
Maldivian here... next time if you are visiting you should try Addu City S.Hithadhoo... there will be local foods, and a bunch of activities you can do ❤✌

Loved the pro HOT intro!! I noticed the shower had a "Noodles" showerhead. Decent hotel breakfast. The drone footage was amazing!! But I will admit that if I go, the budget island does not seem right for a one time bucket list trip. Thank you for being critical while being honest about all aspects of the experience. I would agree that Dhigurah, comparing to other islands is overpriced. There is no house reef (well, there is, but not easy to come), no restaurants, very few shops. More developed islands to check are Rasdhoo, Ukulhas, Thoddoo, Dhiffushi.
Good to know, I am debating between the 'local islands' Vs. 'Upscale'. But, some of the resorts are like $600-700 per night with food and stuff.I haven't seen a really good upscale resort around $200-300 per day price range.

I think if you spend any time on this $60 a night island it would be to be gone each day on snorkeling diving fishing and boating trips. Why aren't they serving sea food? It would be cheaper to catch seafood than bring in hamburgers and pizza from China. Reminds me of the song cheeseburgers in paradise.

The island is dhigurah, there are many guest houses on the island you can book online. From china, contact major airlines like china eastern or southern to fly to male, the capital of maldives, them take a domestic flying to dhigurah. You need to book online. Arrange with the owner to help you select the connecting fly from male to dhigurah, you can take the speedboat instead of flying.
Thanks for sharing, looks like saving a little bit of money is not worth it in this case, if you want to enjoy your vacation, stay in the area where it is more developed islands. Like to see you do China more, because China makes you feel more like home, I can see it on your face.
