Had this discussion with my flight instructor just the other week, I hear its something not a lot of students become familiar with.

Yup, as a divemaster, I would strongly encourage taking a day off from diving 1 day prior to your flight home. The abundance of caution should not be ignored. I’ve seen & heard of many instances from frequent divers to weekend warriors and newbies who just got their C-Card having issues.

Hey, great video. Actually, after finishing a dive the diving computer displays a countdown called no fly time to make Life easier.

I did some diving prior to my holiday. Every component told me I’d be save. During holiday I still ended up in the deco tank. Be careful when it comes to diving and flying.

Good short video. This a rule that I was reminded of when I took diving classes many years ago.

Excellent advice. However, "Bends" are really a sub-category of decompression sickness. The word "bend" comes from the bent position adopted by a person affected by nitrogen decompressing in the joints; it is the position of minimal discomfort in these circumstances. The term "Decompression sickness" covers not only the problems relating to the bends but also those relating to nitrogen bubbles forming in other tissues, most critically in the central nervous system. Captain Joe, can you please put a link to your guest's channel in the description so we can subscribe to her as well. 👍

Thank you. We weren't informed of this when we went diving. Fortunately, by chance, we had a couple of days after our dive before flying home.

same for all less pressured air environments, like high mountains. it a standart thing that you learn at your diving license, at least if you chose PADI or SSI

While getting scuba training I've been told before long haul flights at least a full day is more than recommended. I landed in Djibouti (a country I did not know it exists before that day) because a diver ignored that advice. And he was suffering heavily by the time we start dropping fuel for a while to be able to land. It wasn't fun for anyone on that Air France flight!

There was an episode of "1000 ways to die" where a group of guys went scuba diving on the same day they were going to fly their private plane home.

You can also do this in reverse very quickly, by jumping out of a plane at 20,000 feet wearing scuba gear and a parachute. As you hit the water, you detach the parachute then dive under.

well, it's factually not necessary to mention, "pressurized" cabin since climbing too high in a Cessna causes the same symptoms.

How do Marine Raiders handle water infiltration and then extraction via Osprey? Or SEALs handle HALO into water infiltration?

When did scuba for the first time in Thailand, the first question the dive school asked was when I’m flying home. I could unfortunately only go for one dive. Had I known this I would have not left the scuba activity at the end of the trip.

12h are really a minimum and if you have had multiple dives 24h is the minimum. DAN has done testing and even then micro bubbles show up. Also going up in the mountains after diving are a risk because of the pressure change.
