As a Delorean owner myself I met Miles who quite frankly is not of this time ironically. He is an inspirational modern day guy who is just the epitome of old school values. He is invaluable to the car community and never fails to step forward and help. Quite frankly the guys a legend and well loved in the South West. Have no doubt...he is the reincarnation of Doc Brown himself.

If I met a 21 year old somewhere and he said "I'm building a car in my garage in an attempt to beat a Ferrari's lap time." I'd wouldn't believe him, unless he then got into his daily driver DMC-12 held together with duck tape and drove off.
Another great video from Johnny, I love how these videos feel like we've accidentally walked in on two car people talking about cars as if we weren't there.

@@Charlie-Charlot Charlie, I’m guessing you’re not from round these parts (England - or should it be Great Britain?). Clarkson is a polarising figure in his home land. Dare I call him Marmite - you either love him or you hate him.
Regardless you have to admire his successes and his ability to hit the psyche and interest of the middle man (or woman). His ability to reinvent himself with the Amazon hit Clarkson’s Farm shows his flexibility and the understanding of his core audience. He’s assisted, guided, and maybe led by a very underestimated and slightly camera shy Andy Wilman as his producer (and school era best friend - I think).

Miles has that youthful “I didn’t know I couldn’t” attitude. He went after something he thought was really cool and is living with it. We get so used to seeing these high end rebuilds that cost mega money. So nice to see a kid just working on his car... It doesn’t need to win awards. It just needs to make you happy.

Good on him and I think we need a follow up on the ferrari killing home build at some point. At the first thought of an electric conversion is a small amount of sick in my mouth but if you owned a delorean an electric motor, given the film, seems allowable. Plus the opportunity to put a 'warning 121GW' sticker on your charging unit would kind of make up for it. Working in San Francisco (6/7 years ago?) And on route to a meeting ( after a heavy night) I looked out over the bay area to see a delorean speed boat conversion travelling at a fair rate. It was brilliant! Edit: Think it might have been a hover craft..

Morning Jonny. Well this young man may be a future Gordon Murray. You can tell he's already way ahead of the game . If possibly slightly optimistic about the performance capabilities of his Mazda ! Very enjoyable and every car you feature you seem to fall for ! I do believe that John Delorean had many unfair accusations about his control in his company . I think there were all sorts of shannagins (is that a word?! ) in the politics and funding of the company. And there's no doubt that had it not been for the film trilogy the car would have remained dead and buried. As for the styling , the Delorean has aged well and still looks elegant. (Definitely EV material !) Thanks Jonny.

I had my reservations about this episode, thinking that a young delorean owner would be a rich pompaus, but he seems genuine and admirable for the work that he's put into a non-functioning car. Reminds me of myself when I was his age and bought a porche 924 at 17 that barely ran, not realizing that I was in way over my head, and didn't have the resources (at the time) to make it into a working vehicle. You can tell he's passionate about his love of the delorean and has worked hard to make it a daily driver, even with all the things that are broken on it.

Maybe as you know there was life after the DeLorean too for the engineer who made this DMC also possible: Bill Collins was his name. He came up with a clean sheet model for an RV. This motorhome is compact, light and quick and very popular in their own community. They where the first ones being tested in a windtunnel and using a six cilinder engine. So don't think they are looking as a whale headed camper these days: Vixen td21. Check it out. There are already 5 off them being collected in the Netherlands. Nice for another episode.

Superb! Thank you to The Late Brake Show team and Miles for sharing this charming story. I loved the filming, the locations (Bristol's a wonderful place) and the always outstanding production quality. The script and sentiments are happily received and my own feelings about old cars had some good company with Johnny's and Miles' words. I've been into cars since I was an infant, I'd have everything if I could.... My sister; not interested in cars at all, unless it's a DeLorean. It's a car that affects people who aren't into cars, maybe because of the film, but surely also because it was distinctly different. I love that it transcends the car scene. The sound was lovely too, brilliantly recorded, it made me long for the experience of driving that car or just witnessing it go by.

I think the delorean is a great design, the lines are genious. Some fella has bought delorean, owns the rights and builds brand new ones in America with left over parts (enough to build 300 cars) . The motor was used in many Renaults and was capable of more power than it got in the delorean mainly due to emissions rules in America.

Living in NYC in 1982 these were for sale for $25K brand new! We were offered a trade for one against our 1972 (Series 2) Lambo Espada which I thought was way cooler (Gandini vs Giugiaro) and passed on that opportunity because I hated that 2.7-litre V6 Renault 30 engine after owning another forgotten Renault the 177 TS. Probably was a mistake because the timing chain jumped thereafter and a piston punched a hole in the de-tuned Miura V12 engine which cost us a fortune to fix!
