Dick Tiger (born Richard Ihetu; August 14, 1929 - December 14, 1971) was a Nigerian-born professional boxer who held the World Middleweight and World Light Heavyweight Championships.
Tiger emigrated to Liverpool, England to pursue his boxing career and later to the United States. Tiger was Igbo and served as a Lieutenant in the Biafran army during the Nigerian Civil War, primarily training soldiers in hand to hand combat.
Tiger was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991. The Ring magazine named him Fighter of the Year in 1962 and 1965, while the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) named him Fighter of the Year in 1962 and 1966. In 1996, Tiger was voted as one of the best boxers of the 1960s, The later in 1998, Tiger was put in the book of "Best boxers of the 20th Century". In 2002, Tiger was voted by The Ring magazine as the 31st greatest fighter of the last 80 years.

The best boxer from Africa.some say Azumah Nelson. Nelson is a close 2nd. He had tougher competition; Nino Benvenutti, Emile Griffith, Joey Giardello, Gene Fullmer, Jose Torres, Ruɓin Carter, Ellsworth Webb and Henry Hank. That era was red hot. He got robbed by the Nigerian govt of all he earned with his two hands. By all counts he was brave selfless man who combined dignity with his ferocious style. A great fighter and man
Very brave, watched Emile Griffith win the undisputed title and defeat Tiger again at the old Madison Square Garden. Tiger very brave.

He lost his title to Emile Griffith at the old MSG. I was shocked when Griffith dropped Tiger with lead right lead late in the fight. An era of great fighting middleweights.

A really good boxer. Saw him fight many times. Bob F was sitting in a bar and according to Bob, he saw Dick T fight. Said this guy would be easy to beat. So, Bob went to training, got the bout with Dick T. And knocked him cold.
