what is really great about these type of coolers is they are water tight, I have a yeti soft cooler than I use on the river in my kayak, I use it as a dry box and to keep my lunch cool/ dry. I have noticed it isn't amazing at keeping ice frozen for extreme amounts of time, believe it or not my cheap ass coleman brand plastic lunch bx stays colder longer …..it was like 5 dollars....but yeah for me , in THIS case its about the water tightness. Yeti overall underperform,s though if you ask me, I have multiple different brand coolers of different types and the YETIS actually tend to perform slightly less well than there less expensive counterparts but by very small amounts, there is negligibale difference.
When you buy a yeti your paying an additional $50-$100 for the brand. Been looking for a cooler and after every video i have seem the RTIC coolers seems to be just as good if not better than yeti and much cheaper.
With YETI your paying for the name. I've had 2 YETI products and they both failed with respect to craftsmanship and or durability within the warranty period and YETI did not make it right. This was partially my fault for not keeping the original receipt for 3 years but come on, who keeps a receipt for 3-5 years. For the money we pay for YETI products, there should be at least a no questions asked exchange policy. I will never buy a YETI product again and I live 10 miles from their headquarters on Southwest Pkwy in Austin and I support the local economy, but not YETI.
My Rtic 8 lasted almost 4 year before the stitching inside started coming apart. I only used it a handful of times a year. Maybe 20 times tops in its life. Not sure I am too impressed with the durability under much heavier use than I put it through.
Honestly who buys a cooler because it holds water inside? I bought my Rtic coolers because they keep cooler plain and simple, every test I’ve seen from the soft coolers to the hard coolers Rtic wins every time. Over built not over priced. Not bashing yeti but Rtic just seems to be the better product.
My question would be Black RTIC cooler vs Grey Yeti Cooler out in the hot sun on the boat all day, does the outside color change the experiment, soften the materials etc? - not sure why they would make a black cooler besides it looks pretty cool.
Was thinking the same thing. Shouldn't all coolers be white (or light colors) to reflect the sun's heat?! The Sun turns dark coolers into heaters hence defeating the purpose. I wonder how much it affects the interior.
These are somewhat small for something like that and I haven't seen one. I'd consider reusable freeze packs instead of ice if you're worried about melt water in this size cooler.
Motorcycle top case....You must have a BMW. Good test btw, I wanted the Yeti to fit inside the top case on my R1200 but went with the Rtic to save the $$.
Rtic has quality control issues. The zippers fail way too often. If you want a really good deal with about the same quality, you can get a Magellan soft cooler from Academy, or an Ozark trail from Walmart(the light gray, leak proof zipper) for half the price of the Rtic. All have leak proof zippers and all will fail about the same rate. The Yeti is much more expensive and like anything else can fail, but the the Yeti will fail at a much lower rate that the Rtic, Magellan or Ozark trail. All 4 coolers keep things cold about the same amount of time(not enough difference to be a deal breaker).
You didn't specify which cooler you're talking about. I don't work for either company, but I imagine it depends on whether the zipper body broke or just the pull broke.
My particular RTIC full of water, upside down, dripped about one drop every few seconds at the zipper closure point. My Yeit didn't leak in the same test. Both were pretty clean and well taken care of. I find the Yeti zipper more annoying than the RTIC when I'm trying to open or close the cooler. For my purposes, the difference in zipper watertightness isn't a big factor.
Do a little research, they stopped multiple large contracts not just the NRA. This is why I'm not a member of the NRA, they are good at putting it false information and having people believe it.
Yeti has slight edge? Try Half water and set upside down overnight...then drag behind car to store and back. Yeti will still b good....with warranty years later. Rtic will b in garbage can
J Fike, please don't mis-quote me. I said it has an edge in insulating ability, which clearly has nothing to do with what you need from a cooler. Haha, I need to remember to not let you borrow anything.
Where is the zipper? You say it is THERE. Where is that? Same for customer service; it appears to be in unknown location. Or perhaps you meant THEIR both times?🤣
rtic is also a larger volume which is a disadvantage for cooling, yet it did better on the ice test. That's impressive.
Exactly, more air volume to remove heat in the rtic.
Exactly what I was thinking!
That yeti flip is a 12 can. Rtic also makes a 12 can. I just ordered one. If it’s not better, it’s close enough. Less than half price
Just picked up an Rtic 20 for $100. Looks a good pick.
LoL save your money.rtic cooler isn't worth 5 bux
You weren't holding the bottles at exactly the same angle when you walked to the sink.... lol jk great job.
I appreciate the specificity of your comparison.
Like the way you tested those. Good job.
The difference is not the thickness of the insulation, the yeti has no insulation at the zipper area.

Sick thanks . Will be picking up the rtic
Update, I’ve now had the yeti cooler for 6 yrs it has a spot where the zipper catch’s but it’s been a good one
When you buy a yeti your paying an additional $50-$100 for the brand. Been looking for a cooler and after every video i have seem the RTIC coolers seems to be just as good if not better than yeti and much cheaper.
And also customer service. Not sure about RTIC but I have never had an issue replacing or getting parts for Yeti
Why not bro ima get rtic for price

Gooooo rtic!
Yeti Zippers are crap, I got a year and a half out of mine. Just ordered a RTIC , hope it last longer.
My Rtic 8 lasted almost 4 year before the stitching inside started coming apart. I only used it a handful of times a year. Maybe 20 times tops in its life. Not sure I am too impressed with the durability under much heavier use than I put it through.
You’re supposed to use the zipper lubricant that comes with the yeti and it lasts a lifetime
A price comparison would have made the video complete.
Great job! This I'd a great review
really very well done test.
Nicely done!
Did take into account air pockets 😅
great review! Helped me make a choice

Pretty price
Thank you !
So nice test!
Great review👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
wouldn't the yeti 18 and the rtic 20 be closer in size?
My question would be Black RTIC cooler vs Grey Yeti Cooler out in the hot sun on the boat all day, does the outside color change the experiment, soften the materials etc? - not sure why they would make a black cooler besides it looks pretty cool.
This is the thing that drives me nuts. A cooler company making a dark/black cooler?
Was thinking the same thing. Shouldn't all coolers be white (or light colors) to reflect the sun's heat?!
The Sun turns dark coolers into heaters hence defeating the purpose. I wonder how much it affects the interior.
Both are ran by brothers here in Texas.
is there an insert you can buy that will keep your food out of the ice so it doesnt get soggy? ive seen come coolers that have an insert with a shelf.
These are somewhat small for something like that and I haven't seen one. I'd consider reusable freeze packs instead of ice if you're worried about melt water in this size cooler.
Why are you comparing a 20 w/a 12? That's like comparing a Silverado to a Tacoma
1) I owned both of them. 2) Interior volume is very similar (792 vs 805 in^3). 3) They are direct competitors.
@@GregoryHildstrom so Yeti instructions call for more ice?
@@themarcusallen It seems so. I think Yeti recommends a 2:1 ice to drinks ratio by volume. I'm not sure what RTIC's recommendation works out to.
I just need a soft heavy duty cooler for a lunchbox in Las Vegas heat. I’m hearing the rtic zippers don’t last
Nor does the yeti 👎
Just bought an artic at an auction for $10 awsome
It was used to store heads so enjoy it
Motorcycle top case....You must have a BMW. Good test btw, I wanted the Yeti to fit inside the top case on my R1200 but went with the Rtic to save the $$.
Yep, I justified the cost of the Yeti because it was perfect fit in my R1200GSA top case.
I strap mine on the passenger section. Also provides a nice back rest :)
Rtic is better than Yeti. Much better financially to go with Rtic
Can you do the same test with the frozen water bottles until one has no ice left?
the zippers fail on the yeti

@Bryan, BS have 3 rtics over 3 years old and no issues.
the yeti 18 and the rtic 20
Keeps everything cold with ice pack all day. All zipper pulls have come off. Can they be replaced?
You didn't specify which cooler you're talking about. I don't work for either company, but I imagine it depends on whether the zipper body broke or just the pull broke.
We have an Engle. Blows Yetti away. Inside space Goes to Engle
I wish the RTIC didn’t look like shit
You must have a strange sphincter
The rtic 20 is $70 right now. Trying to decide what color to get
Get rtic I have both brands pretty much the only diff is price
Looks like a lot more water came out of the artic Bottle
The scale doesn’t lie.
Why waste water should have poured it in a cup
Would have liked to see another 8 or so hrs later. Different lengths of time. This video was extra long for no reason.
Has your rtic ever leaked?
Fresh Steve the RTIC is not water proof zipper...simply.no comparison

@@fike301 Wrong. Water tight and air tight. So there is literally a comparison.
yeti overpriced
If I wanted to hold water tight I'd put it in a empty two litter bottle which you can get for free haha
Rtic soft side cooler is absolutely junk.a styrofoam cooler is 100 x better
I still prefer yeti
Very informative but yeti just lost my following to make the Socialist Warriors feel better so Blank Yeti I'll support RTIC
Do a little research, they stopped multiple large contracts not just the NRA. This is why I'm not a member of the NRA, they are good at putting it false information and having people believe it.

Someone's mad that they blew $5000 on a chinese cooler company that doesn't do the job any better than an Igloo
Trying to justify spending 200 on a damn cooler 😂
Rtic is junk there zipper are so cheap. There customer service sucks. You buy Rtic you buy junk!!!
So you're saying they're junk then?
@@thejungalope2900 lol i laughed at your comment
