I'm just going to say that there should be a law that gives us 3 days off a month in the same week for periods. I just had the worst 2 days that I have had since college. Missed 2 days of work because of it and I already had a back injury so it made it so much worse.

@@DrSimiAdedeji Yessss, I live in Spain and am SO happy with this. I have been diagnosed menorrhagia (for which I have medication but nevertheless have anemia every 2 times a year) and suffer terrible pains since 16 (I know what I say when I say terrible pains, I have given birth naturily 3 times 😅) which knock me out 2 days. So for me, this is such an advance in womans rights.
Thank you for normalizing "weird" things and taking serious how bad a period can be for women, very much apreciated 🥰

@@patriciatoney240 That depends on your doctor a bit, because my doctor told me that if you can really demonstrate that although you "only" suffer the intense pain that knocks you out, it is also possible to get the leave. The only thing is that you MUST have a document from your doctor that supports it, so het together with your doctor, explain your personal situation and ask about the options.

Just wow. This was so informative. I'm a bit of a "medical unicorn," though, when it comes to my period... So, I just turned 42, and I don't have a period. In fact, I haven't had a period in 19 years. I started when I was 16 years old, and I had a FOUR YEAR period! I bled for four years straight. I graduated high school with my period, and I went on my senior trip to Mexico with my period. I never told my mom or anyone, and I hated doctors, and honestly, I thought it was normal. So, I learned to live with constant bleeding. No pain or cramps or any other period issues. Just bleeding. When I was 20 years old, it stopped for 11 days. I freaked out cause I didn't know what was happening. I ended up getting diagnosed with something that was impossible to get as I was a virgin and I was about to take a shot of meds to treat it when it I found out my test was accidentally switched with someone else and I had a yeast infection. I got meds/steroids to help jump start it and I simply spotted randomly for about 3 years but never had a regular monthly period again. I just wore pads/tampons constantly as I never knew when I would bleed. It's amazing what you get used to and I just learned to adjust. When I was 23 I was told I had PCOS and that was the reason for my weird period issues. And at 24 my period stopped completely and during a Dr visit I found out I had type 2 diabetes so they claimed that diabetes was a reason for my issues. I also had a doctor tell me I had entered early menopause. That was interesting and not true. So I haven't had a single day of bleeding in 19 years. Funny story, after all these issues I was told having kids would be next to impossible, but when I was 31, I found out I was almost 6 months pregnant! I had no signs or symptoms of pregnancy. No sickness, cravings or weight gain... nothing. I just randomly took a test with a bf I had only been seeing for a month and bam. I was 23 weeks along. The only sort of answer I got from my doc was that even though I didn't have a physical period, my body was still acting on a cycle of sorts. But to this day, I still never got any answers as to why I bled for 4 years straight or how I really got pregnant or why I never had a regular period ever. I now have a 10 year old daughter, and I feel like I don't know if I know how to tell her how to have a period or what to expect really. I just hope she doesn't have the issues I have. I will admit that not having a period for almost 20 years has been nice, but I think maybe it's caused more issues not being normal. I'm so sorry for the long post, but I've never really shared this story and wondered if anyone has had a similar story. As age up toward 50, I don't think I'll be having a period ever again due to menopause coming, but I've just had a strange life. To anyone who takes the time to read this, thanks for listening to my rant. Have an awesome day! 😌

There is a doctor out there somewhere who has a diagnosis for you. Often, women's issues are written off as exaggeration when Dr's are perplexed. Some doctors (unfortunately) only want to deal with clear-cut cases and *easy patients. It took 2 years for me to be diagnosed w/ Crohns, which is a relatively known disease. I lost 30 pounds in 1 month and one of the MANY Dr. referred me to psych because he believed it was all in my head. Your story is amazing and I hope there is someone out there who can solve the mystery for you.

@tvs9978 lol unique for sure. And that's not even the half of my medical journey... my story is full of many chronic illnesses, a heart attack at age 35 and I'm currently battling cancer. I could write a book about my journey through life. I'm definitely grateful that I've been able to maintain a positive outlook on everything. I wouldn't wish what I've been through on anyone but I've been able to help others by sharing my journey so as long as good things come out of all this, I can be ok with that. I'm one hell of a tough cookie and I plan to stay that way 😁❤️

I never heard about these things from other women or from medical practitioners. There wasn’t any information identifying what was in the range of normal, so there was an unnecessary experience of anxiety when these things happened. Just wish I’d known …. Thank you so much for talking openly about all of this now. So many women will appreciate your message as your RUclips channel grows. And that’s a very good thing! ❤

I couldn't agree more. I'm 66, and when I was 28, I suffered from severe endometriosis for a full year, while no fewer than four doctors told me it was all in my head and even referred me to a psychiatrist. When it was determined it wasn't all in my mind I found a doctor who did surgery. He told me my uterus was FILLED with endometriosis and dried up cysts. He said that I literally had no choice but to have a hysterectomy and it was a good thing I did, as it was precancerous.

I’m glad you finally have an answer but I’m sorry you have endometriosis. It’s not fun at all. We really need better education around menstruation, what’s normal and what’s not, for the general public including boys/men and doctors. Appx 50% of the population will menstruate in their life (are, or have) and GPs need a better understanding of it and when to refer someone to a specialist.

Well, I guess she had not started menopause at the time as she didn't communicate about her health much at all. She waited a few months to tell us kids about the cancer because she didn't want to ruin our Senior year of high school.

Do you have any idea about something that happened to me a few years ago… at that time I had relatively light and less painful periods, but one day I had pain that was almost the worst I’ve ever felt. It was sudden and I couldn’t walk, was dizzy, threw up, cried, nearly fainted, and it went on and on for ages. I have epilepsy so I was scared it would bring on a seizure but very luckily it didn’t, thank god, as I hate having them in public. I was out but managed to get to the gp very nearby (with help) and he immediately took me in before the full waiting room, did multiple tests and gave me huge painkilling meds. Just after the internal ultrasound, my period started so I think they thought it was just period pain. But it has never happened before or since, and they found no medical issue. We still don’t know what happened.

I used to get cysts on my ovaries that made my period so much worse than normal! Including rectal cramps (SOOOO painful!) and actual period poops! Although, any kind of abdominal issue would do the same thing, like bladder problems... I thought it was because of the cramping and swelling.

Now I have a friend (we're both late twienties) and she keeps telling me how glad she is to have someone to talk to about these things because she can't even ask her own mum or sister, they both feel uncomfortable (at the moment she's learning how to use tampons since she never had before and I've been using them since my teens, giving her tips and tricks on how to use them, just today she sent me a message that she managed to put one in and she was so happy and I'm happy for her) and I'm just as glad. It's so freeing being able to talk about bodily functions without fear and embarrassment.

She went into her Dr to get checked and they thought it might be uterine fibroids so they did an ultrasound and ran other tests. Turns out she had uterine cancer! She immediately went on some low dose chemo pills while she went through all the pre surgery tests and paperwork. A month later they did a full hysterectomy and sent it in for testing. Thankfully the results came back with no spreading and that they got it all ! Tomorrow she's going in to make sure she's still ok.

My period started when I was 9 and was very irregular in that it didn't always come every month and some months it came multiple times. But it was ALWAYS just 3 days, with cramps the 1st day and no PMS. After I had my son at 21, it extended to 5 days, cramps went away and I got the worst PMS 😫. I'm 47 now and I'd say within the last 5 years it's between 5-7 days, got cramps again and they can be on any day of my period, and still have PMS but not as bad. And the period finally decided to start coming every month, only once a month and on time like a clock. Now within the last 6 months, the dang thing is all over the place again. I guess I'm entering menopause and she wants to go out like she came in 🤦🏾‍♀️.

    Dr Simi
I just wanted to say the biggest THANK YOU for these types of videos. I'm 25 turning 26(F)
I never had proper 'sex ed' - from my parents nor school. Trying to find ANY USEFUL AND FACTUAL information regarding womanly functions has been incredibly difficult over the last 13 yrs since starting my 'womanhood'
Thank you so very very much for explaining these types of things as they are regarded as normal and natural.
I've experienced almost everything you spoke about in this video when it comes to the M cycle but have never had it explained to me nor what to look out for.
This is some bit of education Society Should be learning so we as young adults understand what is going on with our own bodies and what to even look out for when it comes to medical issues in the future and to be informed.
I cannot say THANK YOU enough!
I wish you a lovely 2023 as well as i wish you were my life skills teacher cause that 30 min sex ed lesson we received in high school.... did NOT prepare me for what i was going to expect in the years following adolescent .

Hi, thanks so much for enlightening us on various topics of mensturation especially on heavy periods, clots and discharge! A lot of times many people including gyneas treat these questions like a taboo or brushing it off as "normal". One question I'd like to ask, covid-19 has affected period badly even after 3 months on. Extremely heavy, painful than it used to, lots of larger clots, and lasts longer than it did prior. Treatment to manage it is typical, ibuprofen for pain, etc 😩. Will it ever return to normal? Is there anything else that should we look out for?

Thanks for the information about the infections. I thought it was something I was doing wrong in the hygiene department during that time. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thank you so much for these videos! Health class could be more thorough at my daughter's middle school, so needless to say, your videos help when we need to have more in-depth discussions about periods, girly parts, etc. Your videos help normalize it for them or at the very least stop them from saying "MOM" when I say something they think they should not discuss Lol!

Great video ! I'm glad to know it's actually normal to poop more on your period and experience sharp pain when needing / using the bathroom. Also feels good to be aware that weird pains and clots aren't that weird after all.
Only thing I don't understand is, how can anyone feel more aroused when on their period? Idk, I'm just dead on my period, I don't want to deal with anything sexual in that state 😂

This was really informative, and I don't even get my periods anymore. My daughter's, however, struggle quite a bit with theirs, so I really appreciate having this as a great resource and opportunity to learn.

To be honest I hate getting a period every month.....it's the most annoying and unnecessary thing to go through. I want a hysterectomy and insurance doesn't cover it unless it's an emergency. Any other ways to get rid of it permanently?

Oh. My. Freaking. Word! #3 #3 #3 #3 #3 #3 #3 Thank you for explaining this because I was about to lose my mind and talk to my doctor. I swear, the older I get, the more infections during period time I get. I was almost to the point where I thought something was wrong with me. Thank you for plainly clearing this up!

2 years ago I had a blood clot so big it make me scream, it just fell to the ground when I was going to take a shower. Mind you, this never happened to me before so I went to hospital right away. When the doctors saw the photo of it they all thought I had a miscarriage because of how big it was (with the timing it would impossible to be pregnant).
Worst night of my life for sure, the end of my birthday, hearing babies first cries and thinking I had something wrong, needed surgery/something removed and would never experience hearing my own baby one day.
    Thank you for this video!!

I've experienced all of these, to varying degrees, over the years. It's a crying shame how little we are taught about our bodies. If I had a daughter, I would tell her everything that I know instead of leaving her to figure it out on her own. I'll share this video with my sister to help her teach her girls when the time comes.
