You missed the story of the Montreal Canadiens, on the way to a cup victory party, stopping to change a flat tire. They put the cup on the side of the road and then drove away without it. When they returned, the cup was sitting there, where they'd left it.
@AndrewSmith-vr8kd better yet, there was the 1906 Montreal Wanderers who left the cup behind at a photo studio, and no one seemed to realize it was gone until the next season started, and it was found to have been used as a flower pot for a cleaning lady's geraniums. Lol
Interestingly enough, there are three versions of the Stanley Cup! - The original 1892 bowl was retired in 1962 and displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto - The 1963 authenticated “Presentation Cup” which is the current cup the league uses - The 1993 “Replica Cup” as a stand-in at the Hockey Hall of Fame if the Presentation Cup is not available.
in 2018 the Band with with 1954-1965 Champs has been Retired with the Next Band to be Retired in 2031 Which means that the Toronto Maples leafs will no longer be on the Cup anymore at that point (1966-1979). If all the Bands stayed on the Cup it would be nearly 7 ft tall.
@@thegreatcanadianlumberjack5307 to think, if the Maple Leafs don't win it by 2031, they'll be the only winners of the Stanley Cup to not be on the cup. How embarrassing.
I still can not believe that I my youngest son was able to sit inside the cup when we were able to see it in person. Every time I see it hoisted now I see him in it.
It's sad, but safe to say that the NHL is 4th among the big 4 North American sports leagues, but the Stanley Cup to me is the one that probably means more to win to the players, then getting the ring. I love all the NHL trophies. Hart, Selke, Norris, etc. You feel the history just in the look and name of them. The only others that come to mind like that are the World Cup, Heisman Trophy, Lombardi Trophy, and maybe the Cy Young Award.
I always love to point out that two of the longest droughts in history, The Red Wings and Rangers, went so long that when they last won the cup before breaking the drought, the cup had a different design. The Rangers had the stovepipe design, and the Wings had what was the prelude to the modern design. Every long drought after that, the cup looked as it does today.
To put some perspective on the Canadiens’ 24 Cups, 11 more than the Leafs… Since the last time the Leafs won the Cup in 1967, the Canadiens have won it 10 times. Also the most Cup wins as a player is Henri Richard with 11. Beliveau is tied for second with Yvan Cournyer with 10 as a player. All three had stellar careers. All of those Cup wins were by the Canadiens. Seems so weird now that they haven’t won it since 1993. Red Kelly is tied for 5th most Cup wins as a player with 8, he is the highest ranked player to have not played with Montreal. The other players with 8 Cup wins were all Canadiens: Maurice Richard, Jacques Lemaire and Serge Savard
The last time Ottawa Senators won the Stanley Cup was 1927, I am hoping they can do it again, they are due, I have sooooo much Faith in them and I believe
Hi & yes D. Potvin did win it 4 times he is from my home town of Vanier , Ontario... But what about Henri Richard 11 cups & Maurice Richard 8 cups as players...
when you say montreal was the winner that year but dont say date its confusing.. the dominion cup was basically played between 4 teams, 2 of them being from montreal or 1 from quebec and one from montreal, ottawa and winnipeg. the battle between ottawa and montreal was hectic and the most common match up even though they were amateur teams and winnipeg being semi pro. my grand father played for the ottawa hockey club won 6 cups with them personally and 1 stanley cup in 1920. also my uncle played for pittsburgh, toronto, st louis (Mike Bullard). good video in all though. cheers
Bro why's there so many clips of Ovi winning one Cup and then only a single still frame / even a clip of the Blackhawks from the modern era?!?!? And then when at 8:07 he specifically had a photo of Stamkos & the Lightning winning a Cup as he said "Dyansties" 😅 like bro there's been only one [modern-day] dynasty in the entire salary cap era and it rightfully belongs to Chicago. And, of course, Pittsburgh deserves an honorable mention. Pittsburgh got little love in this video aswell. Like half the clips were the Capitals, Lightning, Canadiens, Wings, Rangers, original 6, excluding the Hawks 😅 Hmmm kinda convient that the TWO most successful franchises of the salary cap era get no attention here 🤔💀 Still liked the video tho 😅✌️
I love the NHL, No hate but the Stanley cup is not quite the best trophy in all sports due to the World Cup. My reasoning for this statement is that the World Cup you play with teams all around the world. However in the NHL/Stanley Cup you only play within USA, and Canada. Finally The World Cup requires you to play at the highest level. The NHL does not require the highest level of greatness. Again NO HATE!
I think Hockey is boring to watch on TV ..it's fun to play and watch in person (if you have good seats)..I played Street Hockey in the streets of Boston when I was young. Technology made hockey easier and more fun to watch on TV with the special puck that would light up on TV, but you Ice Hockey purists didn't want to expand your viewership to a new audience.
